That reminds me of one of the background charactrs in the Gallows who tried to reach out to their Tranquil lover, and it was heartbreaking. Especially the implications in that dialogue.

dont worry they'll be reunited when the fade tears appear (unless they died bc of the RoA)

What's weird about someone saying they are still married to their dead spouse? So anyone who believes they will be reunited with their love in the afterlife and thus stay faithful in this life is 'weird'?

I'm just not seeing how a disconnect from the fade relates to one's ability to find love.

I get that Solas is really big into the fade, and I totally understand wanting to be with someone who shares your passions, but if I met a historian who refused to enter a relationship with anyone who wasn't a history buff, or a football player who refused to be with someone who wasn't a sports fan- or who couldn't play sports due to a medical condition, I'd tilt my head and question their priorities.

But the inquisitor, no matter how much of a dwarf he might be, is uniquely connected to the fade.

To be fair magical glowing hand is probably going to go away when all the fade rifts are closed.

Also a valid point.

Solas is probably against people stereotyping elves (and dwarves and humans...). If his reason for not being with a dwarf was "you're all drunken louts who care more about money",  then he'd be a hypocrite for acting off of broad generalizations and stereotypes. That would be him seeing the dwarf inquisitor as "just a dwarf".

But the dwarven disconnect from the Fade isn't a stereotype, it's a fact of lore and common knowledge. And in this scenario, even if he rejects a dwarven inquisitor based on the Fade thing, it would be because of the Fade thing that's because of the dwarf thing, not simply because they're a dwarf. And there's no reason to assume that he wouldn't acknowledge all the ways they're an amazing person, they're just not an amazing person who can also share his passion with him to the degree that he would like them to.

But even as a dwarf the PC is still connected to the fade no way around that, and as I mentioned in an earlier post just because they can not dream does not mean they can not study the fade or have an interest in it so they can still share Solas's passion for the Fade.  So Solas being gated towards dwarves would still not make much sense to me because they would be connected to the fade and could very much share his passion the only thing they can't do is dream (and even that might be changed for our PC since they are connected to the Fade now and are not cut off from it)

Guys no matter how many reasons you can come up with, no matter how much you debate it 2 options are going to be gated either way

If it prevents you from continuing your life while you're still alive, then yeah, it's weird.

After a point you have to accept that people are gone when they die.

As for gating, I'm only interested in playing a male human or elf. If I can't romance someone with one of those two things, I just wont romance them.

Honestly, I'll be pissed if the last male is hetero, regardless who it is. If they're gated off from races I like, I wont romance them, but I wont really be mad about it.

It's not "weird".

It's unhealthy, but it's hardly unusual.

Without those specifics, this has always been my mindset on the "encourages replay" argument; if I was deadset against playing as a certain race(for the record, I'm not, though I am certainly more interested in some than others), an exclusive romance option isn't enough to change my mind.

You can still move on but continue to love them. :/
If it drowns you or drags you down then *that's* something masochistic... Not the former.

There are 2 LIs TBA and there are 2 race-gated LIs.  They don't have to be the same 2.  I'm beginning to think that the gated ones are really story based.  My own pet theory is that because of what went down in Kirkwall, Qunari inquisitors aren't going to have much luck with either Varric (no, he's not announced) or Cullen.  I think my own sick fantasy of "making" them romance my female Qunari inquisitor as some sort of virtual vendetta or something is enough reason to think it's maybe a good idea to gate those guys after all.  I can't be the only one who has thought it.

That might be just me.  I often don't make much sense.

Why do people say you can't flirt with Varric if you play a dude Hawke? I definitely flirted. It might not have been a heart icon, but Hawke can definitely say "I never thought you were the type, I'm flattered," when Varric expresses concern about your choice of LI. Varric doesn't deny he'd be interested or say "no, I'm straight", he just says "I know I'm damn near irresistable, but you're just too high maintenance for me, sorry."

I'm not rooting for a Varric romance, but there's nothing in that exchange that suggests to me that Varric is purely straight. *shrug*

Well that was the point. Assuming you were trying to continue a previous relationship with someone who has been made tranquil, it would be drowning you and dragging you down and preventing you from mourning and moving on.

Hawke and Varric can flirt like crazy, he just always defelcts everything with witty humor.

I believe we were talking about dating a tranquil not honoring their memory/remaining faithful. So in the context of this metaphor that would mean dating a corpse.

Ah, I was speaking of being interested in knowing if we will be able to partake in banter with the advisors in the "stronghold banter" like we can with companions out in the field.  Thanks for taking the time, though.   :)

There's no technical reason why not.  The "interactive" parts of party banter play out pretty similarly to the person near the water in part 1 of the E3 demo (which I presume is part of the reason of showing off that particular conversation).

So if the conversation is going on and the writers have written in a potential response for the Inquisitor, you can activate the conversation.  It'd just depend if the writers felt a response was appropriate there (which is the same for all of those types of conversations).

If we're thinking of the same fic it was Fenris fault he was Tranquil in the first place.

Tranquil Hawke or Anders seems to be a somewhat popular prompt on the kink meme. I can see the tragic appeal, but it does strike me as unhealthy even if Tranquils are physically alive. I remember this story about a guy who did this every day: took his portable TV to watch sports while he sat by his wife's grave. Trying to remain with someone who is Tranquil comes of like that to me. However, I can see why someone would try. Tranquils are still living, breathing, talking, and thinking. Owain did say he did not see himself as less of a person...and made me feel like I put my foot in my mouth.

I don't remember for sure, but I sort of hope it's the same fic because thinking about there being MORE than one of them is hurting my heart. ;_;

On that topic, I hope the whole curing tranquility thing comes up.

Also it would be awesome if you or your LI were made tranquil and had to be cured. But I just love heart wrenching drama so long as there's a happy end to it, hahahahaaa....

That'd be interesting and a way for Feynriel to turn up in Inquisition regardless of what Hawke did.

Please no Quizzy turning tranquil though.
