3 human females for LI... Would it have killed them to mix it up a little? its a fantasy game with all these interesting races and they just gave me 3 different shades of human?

maybe your right, maybe they managed to write 3 amazing and different female human LIs that are nothing like the female humans LIs of their other games...( I doubt it)

Would still much rather have something different like a female Quinari or dwarf something that they havent done before

Don't get me wrong, I think Bioware DOES play it safe with their LIs for straight men. I think (consciously or not) they have an idea that straight guys wouldn't be into non-human LIs. Other people have noticed how in the ME games, only women have non-humanoid LIs.

Hopefully in DA4 they'll get a little more adventurous, but I have no doubt if straight males got a qunari and a dwarf LI, there's be MAYHEM (pun intended) and tons of guys complaining that Bioware was giving them the 'ugly' options.

To be fair, their focus of LIs was more on representation of sexual orientation than that of races.

so its just a coincidence that the 3 human female LIs are White, Brown, Black?

I know thats not what you meant :P

all kidding aside How hard would it have been to make Josephine another race? its not like she was cullen or lelianna, known characters that they wanted to include with fixed races/sexes. Shes just "diplomat", she could have easily been made as any other race but instead we were given ANOTHER human female, if not lazy then a definite lack of creativity with her slot imo.

I think having a diplomat familiar with Orelsian politics that was a Dwarf, Elf, or Qunari would be quite a different character, actually.

Yeah and I think having a Qunari as a diplomat would cause more problems then solving them lol same with an elf I don't think many Orelsian's would listen to an elf

thats actually a great point about ME... (and Garrus probably turned out to be the best romance in the series despite him being VERY different, acually I believe the 2 most popular romances in the series were non humans)

but with there being 3 LIs for straight males I think theres some room for getting creative

Cassandra is an established character and Vivienne probably wouldn't have been a qunari in the circle, couldn't be a dwarf. Basically the only choices would have been to, say, gender swapped Iron Bull or made Blackwall a female dwarf, or something like that. Or just thrown out a concept and replaced it with a woman of a different race early in planning. Women of other races are in small numbers, though, and the cast was very slanted towards males, so I'm not necessarily saying the alternatives shouldn't have been considered.

That is why Josephine is perfect for the job. She will make them listen to us and spear some problems to the Inquisition. She won't get dismissed the moment she says something, with other races there would issues in the human controlled seats of power

We actually do not know that there are 3 right now. Vivienne is not a confirmed love interest. It seems likely, but we don't know there will be a third female LI at this time.

thats the thing, the character could have been anything, If I recall the person who wrote the character said something like, "I was given one word for the character, Diplomat" Just seems like they could have thrown a female Quinari/dwarf around the Inquisitor somewhere.

"

well they will likely be listening to the inquisitor regardless of their race, If the inquisition is as important as its being made out to be their representatives will likely be treated coureously regardless of race

I don't think dating a tranquil would be possible.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be.

I think the thing is that when writing the characters, they didn't start out saying "Okay, who will be the straight male PC's options? Let's give them only humans." I think they wrote the characters, and then started to fit them into The Chart, and that's just the way it played out. Some people will love it and some will hate it and unfortunately, the writers will never be able to make everyone happy. :/

I haven't hit that part yet.

Sadly, Isabela and Merrill never talk about f/f sex.

This should be happening every other banter.

Right? The only f/f conversation is with the PC's sister.

They create characters, and then they decide which ones will be romanceable and to whom according to the personality of the character, I don't think they think about the race ratio for each gender/sexuality combination.

EDIT: I'm not even sure they thought about how many romances there would be for each sexuality.  They may have, but they might of not.

If thats the case I wish someone would have pointed out that just about every single important female character is human :P and that they could maybe diversify things a little

Solas says he hates when people look at him and only see an elf. It would come across, at least on the surface, as hypocritical if he would reject someone who would otherwise be great for him simply because they aren't the right race.

People are hypocritical.

Sigh...no. I would only romance Varric if he was bi. It's hard for me to willingly choose to do a straight romance. Tried the same with Alistair, but playing as a female wasn't the same for me. I couldn't go through with it.

I have so much sympathy. I am still trying to figure out how to do a Cassandra romance. I pondered making a character who was a trans woman but decided any romance at that point would be duplicitous.

After I considerated all  current romance possibilities, I rather choose to romance  broodmother for male inquisitor andn hurlock number 65 for female

A lot of people are saying that they make female characters and then assign them as love interests, but isn't the fact that female characters tend to overwhelmingly be pretty humans a bigger issue than the romance system, to begin with?

...WOW. That's... kinda super harsh. :/

I hope you're just making fun of the people who think all the romantic options this time around are boring/ugly. Cuz otherwise, yikes.

who the heck would date a tranquil :V

I imagine if your entire life is being trapped in a tower with 100 people and someone you like becomes a Tranquil, you'd continue to like them.

When did they ever say it was going to be equal?

They've said it won't be.

That's not dating then, that's masochism.

Howso? If I enjoy going out on a date with someone, it's not masochism.

Essentially this. It would be probably equivalent to insisting you are still in a relationship your a dead spouse, even though they literally cannot give you anything back because everything about them that made them who they were is gone.

I don't really think of them as dead people given they can perform actions, carry on conversations, and have thoughts and opinions.

That reminds me of one of the background charactrs in the Gallows who tried to reach out to their Tranquil lover, and it was heartbreaking. Especially the implications in that dialogue.

Can you link that?

I enjoy Iron Bulls physique, but I'm rare in that I really like big beefcakey dudes, my only issue with his appearance is that weird moustache thing he's got going on, but other than that he's fine IMO.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be able to go through with it either, but the idea of watching gameplay videos on youtube of someone elses character doesn't seem ideal either

They have no emotion or passion anymore. They can't even feign emotions or passions. If all of the feelings are one sided then that's not a relationship.
