Here is a youtube video of that scene with the mage turned Tranquil and her desperate lover. It is just so sad.
That actually made me a bit nausea. Glad we murdered Ser Alrik cold.

I honestly can't think of anything worse in the realm of a relationship than having someone you loved and knew deeply turned into an unfeeling husk, I think death would be kinder. But hey maybe that's just me.
Not the same as Tranquil, but it made me think of amnesia permanence and Alzheimer's and such things. It's something that is frightening for me to think about -- the prospect of you, yourself, losing memory, emotion, attachment, to people you loved, spouse, family, etc. And from the other perspective of being with someone that is affected by such things that erases/degrades the attachments to you, dulls or removes emotions between you and your loved one. Painful.
Tranquil is one of the saddest things in the game for me.
3 human females for LI... Would it have killed them to mix it up a little? its a fantasy game with all these interesting races and they just gave me 3 different shades of human?
maybe your right, maybe they managed to write 3 amazing and different female human LIs that are nothing like the female humans LIs of their other games...( I doubt it)
Would still much rather have something different like a female Quinari or dwarf something that they havent done before
Before I go back to ME3, I was wondering if I may ask something to the men in the thread: If Varric was straight, would you roll up a lady to romance him with?
Hell yes I would. I made my second character in DA:O a Dwarf noble girl - the one in my avatar - just to romance Alistair, because they seemed like a cool couple. And in the end he sacrificed himself for his sweet Dwarven noble princess. *sniff*
But having an actual Dwarf couple would be even better. If Varric is unavailable, it will probably be Cullen who gets lucky.

Tal-Vashoth and Dwarven romance options would've been a nice contrast to the Andrastians, especially with the disappearance of dwarven women in Kirkwall and the complete lack of a dwarven romantic option in the previous games (and it's still up in the air whether Varric will even be a romance option for anyone). And perhaps a female elven love interest for those of us who were interested in an elven romance with a male Inquisitor.
I agree there should be more variety
I finally want a real female elven LI (with elves looking normal again, so Merril doesn't count)
and also dwarven & qunari love interests
I'm bored with all these Human LI's (I romanced Leliana in Origins and Isabella in II)
I think the human to non human balance of the party is about right( a dwarf, 2 elves and a Qunari), given the setting of the game. I really don't want them shoving in noah's ark equality just for the sake of it. If there turns out to be 3 non human LI(Iron Bull, Sera & ??(varric/solas) that equally seems a decent percentage imo.
Personally as a straight male i was disappointed but accepting about Sera being Lesbian, given she's the first female elf LI i had an interest in but that's the way the cookie crumbles given this fixed gating they've introduced(which i still don't like).
A lot of people are saying that they make female characters and then assign them as love interests, but isn't the fact that female characters tend to overwhelmingly be pretty humans a bigger issue than the romance system, to begin with?
No.
Especially because the current crop of straight female romance options don't fall into the "pretty human" category.
so its just a coincidence that the 3 human female LIs are White, Brown, Black?
I know thats not what you meant
all kidding aside How hard would it have been to make Josephine another race? its not like she was cullen or lelianna, known characters that they wanted to include with fixed races/sexes. Shes just "diplomat", she could have easily been made as any other race but instead we were given ANOTHER human female, if not lazy then a definite lack of creativity with her slot imo.
Yes, them making a female Antivan Merchant Princess, a character whose viewpoint of the world has never been experienced so far since any Antivans we've met prior are male Antivan Crows who live in the underworld, is 'lack of creativity'. ![]()

Merril doesn't not count as a "real female elven LI" just because you don't like the way she looked, bub.

Personally I wouldn't hate it if in the next game we only had a single human party member, let alone LI.
No.

You do realize pretty is a subjective term don't you? A lot of people happen to find the characters attractive. There is more to a female character than big boobs and skimpy armor. Its not the year 2000...its 2014. Times have changed.

I'd be okay with this too. Well, as long as it made sense.

Don't think that will ever happen. Game Companies want their products to make money after all.

If the game was set in Orzammar say then i wouldn't have an issue with a low human percentage. However if its based in human lands and the percentage was low that would be an issue imo.

A shame too because I like listening to the panel overall.
It's a criticism against the overwhelming number of Andrastian humans who comprise the Inquisition, which has bereft us of characters who could have provided insights that aren't limited to "human only", or romance options with individuals who would have some common ground and similar life experiences with a non-human Inquisitor.
An organization formed by an offshoot of the Chantry and named after an ancient Andrastian organization is comprised primarily of Andrastian humans?
How can this be?!

Humans run the topside of Thedas with Dwarves and Elves being a minority. So unless the next game deals with specifically dwarven or elven problems as the main story line ( something the humans only have minor interest in) you are going to have more humans if the problem or threat directly effects Thedas.

I'm aware of the date, yes. I'm also aware of what I subjectively find "pretty". I'm aware, too, of what the majority of heterosexual males wandering 'round this part of the world find pretty. Kate Upton's not well-known because of her personality.

If you can't imagine a way to have a party of adventurers not match up to the demographics of their local area and still make sense as a group, perhaps you're not trying hard enough.

While I'm sure that the idea may well impact sales, I'll never understand as to why. "Man, I know Bioware has a reputation for great stories and well written characters, but all the party members in this game are too short or too tall, and half of them have pointy ears. I just can't relate to that. Gonna have to pass."

Why?
Why?
Because as someone who identifies as sexually ambiguous, both hearing that the person who counted as representation wasn't and that they don't want to go that route again thus pretty much confirming I'll never get a representation in one of the LIs is very depressing.

So are you sexually or romantically attracted to men or women? Because I was under the impression sexual ambiguity meant you can't easily tell what gender a person is or you can't outwardly tell what their sexual orientation is, but not an actual orientation in and of itself.

I don't want artificially force diversity that isn't justified for the story and the setting. If that's not trying hard enough then i'm happy not trying hard enough.
