I'll probably also add that until probably 6 months ago, the entire concept of demisexuality was something I was completely oblivious to.

Not really if she is bisexual, she is bisexual. That logic is the same as saying she is straight but likes women at times. Or she is a lesbian but likes men at times. That is why it erasure to put everyone ambiguous and also everyone bisexual.

Uh... okay, but I personally know people who ID as bisexual AND demisexual, so nooo it's not at all like a women who is straight 'liking' women sometimes. Like, at all. :/

Also there are people (like me) who might technically fall under the description of multiple things-- There are folks who would call me demisexual, and bi or pansexual too, but I don't call myself any of those things because I don't personally like the labels. I call myself queer. That doesn't mean that I can't look at a character like Dorian or Merrill and feel like they are providing me representation. I don't expect Bioware to make a character who is functionally demisexual/bisexual but calls themselves 'queer' just to feel like I'm being represented.

So I stand by my feeling that Merrill, though technically "bisexual" by WOG, has nothing in her characterization that would contradict someone experiencing her as also demisexual, if they chose.

EDIT: Maybe it's because I'm over 30 and didn't grow up with ANY representation of any LGBT characters like... at all, that I'm just as happy with a gay character as I would be with a bi demisexual character. I'm just so goddamn happy that Bioware gives a crap about the LGBT community at all.

It's times like these I think we humans have an unhealthy obsession with categorization.

That made me wonder - do People expect BioWare to present everyone of them Representation? or is it more of wishful thinking that their Sexuality is one of the ones that get Representation?

I'm in the ironic position of hoping some of my favourite characters don't share my orientation, because I'm aromantic :) . That would sought of put a damper on the possibility of them being love interests. I guess it would be cool to see explicitly aromantic characters elsewhere in the setting, but it doesn't really bother me if there aren't. There are enough important characters who aren't in romantic relationships that I don't feel the need to grind my teeth over it.

(If anyone is wondering 'then why the hell is she so interested in the romance thread if she's aromantic?', for me video game romances are like video game dragonslaying. Not something I'm interested in IRL, but great fun when only pixels are involved.)

It's definitely a uniquely human trait, I'll say that.

It's times like these I appreciate the human ability to come up with specific categories.

We've probably had that problem ever since we evolved the ability to classify "food" from "not food".

Lol well, classification that simple is a trait animals share with us, but yes, I see your point.

Anyway... romances, anyone?

I feel like we're really running out of things to talk about without any new info for nearly a week, lol.

As someone who tends to dislike all those "etiquette" things...it's like I die a little everytime some new definition pop up on my screen.

I know those words can be quite useful and used in an empowering manner.

I like to read about people and such , but all those words , it's like we have to define everything to feel confortable with it.

I have the same thing with art , and people who will write a whole essay about one painting.

On one hand I get it , it's interesting research etc...on the other I hate it, it's like just missing the point of what art is all about.

The difference is the degree of sexual, physical and romantic attraction. This website explains it much better than I ever could.
Just an example, I consider myself panromantic in that I am romantically attracted to men and women and people that do not consider themselves as part of the gender binary. But I don't feel "pansexual" is right for me because I do not experience sexual attraction to any persons.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the link to that site lots of interesting information. Even if it did just confuse me that much more but still thanks for posting that link up :)

I do too, and it depends on the art and I'm sure everyone would give a different answer, haha.

My quick answer would be to evoke a certain feeling or set of feelings in an audience...But I am of the opinion that art is something that should actually take creative effort with some thought behind it on the part of the artist. i.e. no, I don't consider a pee covered crucifix to be art (which is a real thing btw), but I know a lot of people would disagree.

No, that is not what I meant.

If the devs say she is bisexual than she is bisexual. If the devs says she demisexual then she is demisexual. You are assuming that demisexuality is in itself is not a definitions and needs more attach to it, when it is not like that. Yes people can attach more to it but it not fair to say she is bi an people can head-canon it demi, see this is the erasure, I am talking about.

The same way saying someone is straight but dates a lot of genders, it can be bi erasure. Like bisexuality does not exist and you are seen as gay when date women and straight when date men.

I prefer to link things since I'm not very good with words and end up doing mojo-jojo style explanations! So... no problem.

I think that it is a good thing to know about, just to better understand other people. ^_^

This was the entire problem with Merrill though. Because her sexuality was left ambiguous people could project whatever sexuality they wanted onto her, be it straight, bisexual, demisexual, "sexually ambiguous", or whatever they wanted.

It's the entire reason why having a characters sexuality be ambiguous is an issue. Merrill could represent anything anyone wanted her too, and therefore she represented absolutely nothing.

Yes, because heaven forbid there are people like her in the world.  <_<

She has small hands. I'm sure if you take it slow, you won't need labels.

Mojo-jojo style explanations are always the best though (and now I'm reading your post in his voice sorry^^; )

It definitely had a lot of stuff I was unaware of before and as someone who likes to understand things like this (in other words a people watcher) it's very interesting if not a little scary with how much there is
