I tend to like all those etiquette things.

What is art all about?

I can't give you any clear definition of what art is supposed to be about. But when people try to deconstruct a piece of art ,it's like they're doing the opposite of what artist do.(trying to synthesize feelings thought etc into a creation)

It's just people can have almost a scientific approach to art , and I found it strange sometimes.(And I can be like that no doubt , but sometimes it end up with the thing losing its emotional impact on me..Like I just find out Santa Claus is a lie ...^^)

Anyway sorry or the off topic.

And what are people "like her" exactly?

Wow really?

If the devs say she is bisexual than she is bisexual. If the devs says she demisexual then she is demisexual.

Generally speaking, I disagree.

I say this as someone who was happy that David called Merrill bisexual because my confidence in her sexuality had steadily eroded over time.

I have a feeling my answer would be likely have to be an essay :P

I really ought to start a group where I can herd people when I stray too far off topic.

Sexual blank slates due to being ambiguous.

There already are characters like that in Thedas. Every single NPC who never indicates their sexuality to the protagonist, which is about 99% of them.

Interesting observation. I guess BW didn't think that anyone would want to romance a dwarven or qunari female? Would be interesting to see something different in the future though.

I'm quite certain there are people that would like to romance a dwarven or a qunari female (although I'd like to think there are more requirements that people would like than *just* that).  Though I think it'd require the concept of creating a character specifically for the purpose of being romanced (i.e. "People want to romance a Dwarf, so lets make a romanceable Dwarf") which I'm pretty sure isn't how writers do things.  Might be good to make an ask of David on his tumblr page?

Doesn't mean they shouldn't be represented by characters of importance as well.

I also don't believe in the word of god if it isn't reflected in the writting. The best example is J.K Rowling saying dumbledore was gay. I wish I could notice such thing in the books. My friend told me, and someone who told to my friend learned this on twitter. Mhh.

And I didn't take what said Gaider seriously to be honest and I liked what a fan said to him on his tumblr about that.

Could you stop this? We aren’t the idiots you’re looking for. We all played and heard the conversations. Isabela is Bi, Fenris could be; everyone else has their sexuality on a toggle. Merrill, if not romanced by f!Hawke will mention that she can’t even imagine lesbian sex. Anders will only allude to any attraction to men unless you play m!Hawke.

Making the characters playersexual, not bisexual, was the decision you made; and while slightly disrespectful of a choice it’s the one you made. Own it. We’ve all seen the game, we all know this claim is rather bs.

Stop trying to claim it was something else this late after; it just makes it seem like you have no respect for your fans

I would even have written much more. I like Gaider, but there he lost me. What he said doesn't mean much to me. It's Bioware that said that it's left to interpretation, not the players. And now he is saying that it's irrelevant, she is bisexual despite what people want to think a long time after the game. Nope. I'm sorry, but nope. Don't take us for fools.

Well but the same can be said about any sexuality no?

I understand that death of the author is a valid thing but then, anything official is moot if there are hints of the contrary and people take other meanings of it.
I really do not think this works when we are talk about representation, in a sense that people complained about no one having a set sexuality.

Actually it would had been better for DotA if the devs keep it that way, ambiguous.

Who said they aren't? Do we have confirmation on Shale's sexuality? Stens? Meredith's or Orsino's? Marethari's?

If you're talking about representation of character's who's sexuality is unclear to the player there are countless examples of major characters in the Dragon Age series who we have absolutely no idea about the sexuality of.

In that case, why have homosexuality or bisexuality or even heterosexuality expressed either? Any character who doesn't express their sexuality may be those too. But that was understandably unsatisfactory for those groups, so why should it be satisfactory for other groups?

So if you cannot romance any LGBTQA+ character or at least having them saying something about it would be fine no? They still represented on the npcs of the world? who knows their preferences! They could be anywhere!

I love how people are against more representation, this is lovely.

But the issue here is over Merrill specifically. You felt that Merrill represented a particular group because her sexuality was unclear to the player.

If this is the case then why was Merrill any more a representation of said group than any other character in the series we do not know the sexuality of?

Well, she was a companion and LI for starters.

Yes, and I apply it to any sexuality.

I understand that death of the author is a valid thing but then, anything official is moot if there are hints of the contrary and people take other meanings of it.

It works when it comes to representation. I do not need to know what the developers think of Morrigan, Alistiar, Leliana, and Zevran's sexuality to form an opinion on them. That opinion may be different than what the author imagines those characters to be, but creators are not hall monitors whose job it is to give me permission to believe one thing or another.

If Merill was a good representation of demisexuality, she still is. David saying 'Merrill is bisexual' should have no more impact than David saying 'Leliana is straight.'

I suspect the problem is that Merrill wasn't a good representation in the first place.

Actually it would had been better for DotA if the devs keep it that way, ambiguous.

That doesn't make her any more likely to be a member of said group than any other character.

Still no word on the last two romances I take it?

I wonder if Iron Bull will also speak Qunari during battle like Sten. Maybe he'll speak Qunari to the inquisitor in certain romance moments

It makes her better representation than NPC #5 if she was part of that group though.

I liked Meredith quite a lot.  I'd love it if we had an older, mature lady as an LI.  One that does look the part as well.  Women LIs in games tend to be very young.  Having age lines on the face for a woman character love interest is like a sacred no-no.  I'd enjoy a Meredith or a Wynne.
