The fanbase is tearing itself apart, but they say I can stop this.

Well instead of being so needlessly combative, you could just go and post your concerns in the other thread where an ACTUAL dev of the game is listening and interacting with people about their feedback. Seems way more productive to me.

 

A thread in the forum that is very rarely read , (not to mention that dev was discussing and interacting about this topic in THIS thread).I'm not being needlessly combative if an actual moderator believes discussing the races of romances in the romance thread is off topic, thats fine. Lets the mods do there jobs, no need for members to try and do it for them

So, basically you think they wont gate anyone from humans, for sure? Hmm. That's possible. They are the large majority of PCs.

 

Dorian gated against qunari is another possibility I remembered. Tevinter has strong conflict with them, and it's possible he has an aversion. Solas doesn't like Iron Bull, so it's possible he has some reservations towards them, as well. We're not really sure where he's from, so it's possible he also had bad experience with them at some point. He apparently knows enough about them to have a strong opinion, so maybe he used to live around them?

I would hope that Solas wouldn't be race-gated against Qunari, simply because the PC would be Vashoth and thus removed from the Qun.  We don't know enough about how Solas feels (other than "It's more complicated than that!) about the Qunari as a people to assume he would hold prejudice against the PC for being born to a race that has a history of doing things he is morally against.  But hey, your guess is as good as mine!  Trying to figure out who's race-gated and who isn't really feels like grasping at straws at this point.

I'm really thinking that out of all the races Qunari might be the ones gated against even though they are the new player race that everyone is going to want to try out I just see them being gated off for some story reasons, many are not okay with the Qunari whether they are a part of the Qun or not.

Well, in the Scuttlebutt poll, Qunari were chosen just a little under elves as second least popular race, but people on BSN tend to choose non-human races more than casual gamers. I wouldn't be surprised if Qunari are actually less popular than some people on BSN expect them to be. I think they'll probably be about as popular as elves, or a little less.

The Bull is right out, and Solas has that whole 'open-minded' thing going for him (which is why, if he's gated, it'll have to be from something major, like a lack of Fade connection). While Sera has a thing against nobles, another poster brought up a good point: technically, only human rogues and warriors are noble. So, unless Sera is gender and race and class gated, I think she'll be open to humans. Now, Varric has specifically stated he's not into humans (yes, yes, he could have been joking, I know) thus he would be the only one who I'd believe would be gated against humans.

 

I think it's between Solas or Varric for one of the LI slots. Unless Vivienne isn't an LI, in which case both of them are. I think I read (or heard--perhaps one of the GaymerX panels) somewhere that, at one point, not all the race/sexuality setups were getting more than one option. Since the Iron Bull was the one they ended up working on, I think it was gay dwarves. Thus, I'm thinking that a dwarf-gated Solas or a straight-Varric are part of the remaining LI pair. Either that, or Dorian is gated against dwarves which... would be odd because dwarves are really respected in Tevinter.

 

Granted, this is all a theory since I can't remember where I heard about the initial imbalance.

Well, the problem is that there are no real "fair" reasons. I mean, what is a fair reason?

 

"I had a bad experience with ___ and now I can't connect to them."

"I just think ___ is physically unattractive."

"Being with a ___ could hurt my social standing."

 

Gating is going to happen, we know that much. Two characters will be gated. I can't personally think of any reasons for it that wont rub someone the wrong way.

David Gaider said in his interview that mages are still nobles, though, they were just taken away at a young age to the circle. I don't know if Sera considers that to still be a noble, or not. It seems that Bioware does consider it to be a noble, so I'm not entirely sure that she wouldn't.

 

One total blank spot, though, is Blackwall. We really have no idea how he feels about other races, or why. He could easily be a curveball that nobody is expecting. Although, we have no reason to think he would be, we know very little about him. I felt like his interview was the most vague of all of them.
