I didn't view that scene in the same way you did, apparently. Merrill acknowledges that the Dalish are supposed to maintain their Elvhen heritage, and she addresses that (with a male Hawke). It's a sacrifice she's willing to make because she loves Hawke, since her children will be entirely human (which is something the developers have addressed, as well as "The Calling" and "The Masked Empire"). I thought it was incredibly significant because it addressed that her love for Hawke was more important than this.

It's significant for her individual character. Not for greater representation of elves in Dragon Age.

Pretty sure Dorian is Andrastian, considering the E3 demo where he goes "What in Andraste's name is that?"  Plus, Tevinter is an Andrastian society (albeit far removed from the majority's interpretation).  I think most of the cast is at least familiar with the Chantry and its perspectives.  Off the top of my head Iron Bull is the only one that we know for certain isn't from an Andrastian society/culture.  It would have been nice to see some more diversity in religious beliefs (I am all about dat world building), but I think we've got some interesting perspectives even with the cast we have now.  Everyone comes from different parts of Thedas.  I'm excited to see just how different Tevinter's brand of the Chantry is from most of Thedas'.

I say "Oh my God" all the time, and not necessarily only during sex either, and I'm an atheist.

"Lavellan--"

"Or is is Andrastrianisms that get you going?"

I actually do the same thing, too!  Probably not a good thing to assume he is just on what he said.  Obviously we can't be certain, but we do know that Tevinter is an Andrastian society, so Dorian at least has some idea of its culture/structure just based on the fact that he grew up there.  Or at least that's my hope because I'm super curious about the dichotomy between the Black Divine and the White Divine....

Different Andrastian perspectives, but as I said before, there are other people who have expressed in interest in non-Andrastian perspectives, and even in non-Andrastian love interests, as the female qunari thread and the Dagna thread can attest to.

That's fine, and people can hope for content of a particular type that they enjoy.  I just don't see "I'd like to have more companions of non-Andrastian perspectives" to be all that different than say "I'd like to see a companion from <Place X> in the world" or other types of similar companion requests.

I don't think that companion diversity requires the types of characters that you describe.  So it may not feel diverse as you would like (which is unfortunate) because you focus on particular criteria that you value for diversity.  Which is fine.  People all have things that they value as being important.  And yes, there are people that want to explore the avenues you describe.  There are all sorts of people that want to explore all sorts of avenues.

I don't think anyone denies that there's diversity in Andrastian cultures, but some of us are interested in the myriad of dwarven, qunari, and elven cultures in particular, and would like something of a reprieve from the central human focus that the series typically takes, since the other cultures have a tendency of being marginalized in certain areas that some of us are interested in.

I don't anyone views it as a requirement, but exploration into these other cultures is something that keenly interests some of us. There's a stark difference between Andrastian societies that share commonalities in their culture and faith with someone like Dagna, who was a unqiue perspective as an Orzammar dwarf who came to the surface to study at the Circle, despite all that it cost her to achieve her dream. There's also the potential with a Tal-Vashoth addressing the transition from a loyal follower of the Qun to someone who openly defied their place in society, or a male elven protagonist romancing a female elven love interest who understands what it's like to be marginalized in human society, something that none of the current female human love interests know anything about.

At least you have a Dalish protagonist, Lob. I wanted a City Elf backstory but got the short end of the stick. Be thankful for what you have.

I've expressed gratitude time and again towards Bioware for the inclusion of the Dalish, Dwarven and Vashoth background options, and for providing content for gay and bisexual fans when other companies exclude them. However, that doesn't mean I should be prohibited from expressing an interest in other things as well. I have the right to express an interest in seeing more inclusion for non-Andrastians among the companions and love interests.

I agree. Their is certainly nothing wrong with asking and discussing having more diversity in that regard. Granted, I'm glad we have gotten peeks at different walks of life so far. Merrill, Sten, Iron Bull, Morrigan, as well as other "non-Andrastians".

And that's fine. I'm just getting tired of the "I want to see more non-Andrastians because they are all the same" that seems to come from your posts whenever the topic is discussed.

Probably very off topic from what everyone else is currently discussing but just woke up again and this popped into my head so I'm going to say it so bleh. I can not believe it took me this long to notice that so far our LIs who appears to be the one who sleeps around the most is not a rogue or that neither of the bisexual LIs our rogues so that's kind of neat.

I'm glad about that as well. I really enjoyed Morrigan and Merrill's inclusion, and they were also my favorite romances; two intelligent, capable and unique women who stood out to me.

I don't deny that there's diversity among the Andrastian cultures, but I'd prefer for the series to veer away a bit from the human-centric perspectives that seem to have dominated Dragon Age since Origins, and instead delve a bit more into the other cultures. More than a few of us are curious and interested in societies that aren't part of the Andrastian kingdoms. I include romance as well because this is a romance thread, and a plethora of players have expressed an interest in qunari and dwarven women for quite some time.

Kind of nice to see that so far it appears that none of the rogues are super promiscuous and its kind of a refreshing change. (nothing wrong with people who are of course but its nice to see it be spread to the other classes a little  )

I don't think that Bioware should ever stray too far from human-centric stories. For one, the game would sell less copies, for another humans are too widespread to not have an almost centric impact on any story. We'll almost certainly get city-elven perspectives from Sera, and we'll get Qunari from Iron Bull, Solas isn't Dalish, but he almost certainly has a very different perspective on the world than any other character we've encountered, and Varric is a surfacer, but he still provided a unique Dwarven insight to the game. I have little doubt there will be important Dalish and subterranean Dwarven NPCs that we get to interact with.

I understand that you're frustrated that this diversity isn't going to be represented in LIs that you'd be interested in, but it's just the way the cookie crumbled this time. Every game has had companions with an interesting variety of perspectives and they just can't fit that many into one game.

Very true but also DLC and not in everyone's game. So not everyone knows about him. Also I was just pointing out the the LIs that are BI and tend to sleep around the most tend to be rogues.

(Sebastian was not in many of my playthroughs because I did not know he existed for a long time)
