I'm sorry but all this talk about sexuality, race, gender and age is really taking the fun out of the whole concept of having romances in games, some of these posts are just taking things to far on a feature that is 100% OPTIONAL. Now don't get me wrong I like romances in my games cause I'm a romantic but geez some of you need to chill out, its just a video game, its fiction, not a extension of real life.
Please don't start with, "it's just a video game," again. Even the gaming industry recognizes it's more than "just a game" that and to use the words of a few companies, "It's time we grew up and took responsibility for how our product impacts people."
It's not just the romance content. You're missing the point when folks, including me, ask for representation. It's also about seeing LGBT characters in general. For instance, my character is not going to have to just romance Dorian to find out he's gay. Or to find out that Iron Bull is bisexual. Believe it or not, after years of the overwhelming majority of straight heroes (mainly men,) folks would like to see bi, gay and trans heroes as well. People that might not just want to "get the girl" if they are a guy, or for some ladies, they want the lady knight on the shining white horse instead. Or want to be the lady knight rescuing the female princess. You get the point.
In this game, they have romances. This is why that not just the LGBT community, but straight roleplayers love this content. Straight men and women enjoy LGBT content as well.
Do you know how often gay men in particular are villains in games? The answer would stagger you, and I'd recommend googling gay video game villains. Or heck, just google "gay male video game characters." They are most of the time either villains or jokes in video games, if they are in a game at all.
Imagine if your sexuality was almost entirely either villains or joke characters. Not a hero or heroine that was straight, just all gay or bisexual characters. A straight character? Maybe here or there. Usually as a villain, a hooker or "sissy boy."
Games like Persona are extremely rare.
Remember, 30 years of the video game industry is affecting the way people think. 30 years of any mass media will do that to a culture. That's longer than some of this forum have been alive. For me, that's exactly like someone saying, "Oh, we don't need gay characters in movies. That's just a sidekick character, s/he's OPTIONAL."
So, please stop staying that. It's obvious that a lot of folks feel that it is important to them. It's fine if you disagree, but I respectfully ask that you at least try to understand where the LGBT community is coming from.
