I hate to use the P-word but whenever I see someone complain about others being included in something then privilege is the appropriate way to describe it.

Time and again they whine about others getting catered to when it doesn't effect them at all,it's like a child getting mad that he/she is not the center of attention anymore.

Grow up plz, there are literally thousands of games out there that cater to your needs.

I'd be willing to bet that the percentage of lgtb gamers is exponentially higher than the percentage of gamers who look and act like video game protagonists. If what sells is a carbon copy of the player then most game protagonists should be either overweight or underweight and have traits like bad hair and acne right? Rather than a towering mass of muscled perfection and badassery. Seriously, who refuses to play a game because the protagonist is not exactly like them in every way (ex: upper-middle class straight white male gamer who only plays games about upper-middle class straight white males)? I'm a straight white woman but I love the opportunity to play other races, genders, sexualities, nationalities, etc...sameness is boring, I am me in real life. In a game I want to experience a different perspective.

So add me and all the people like me to that percentage, as well as people who don't care who the protagonist is, and people who will play any character/game that has a good story.

I agree with this 110%.Gaming needs variety and the industry is suffering from stagnation because of the lack of it.

I'm sorry but all this talk about sexuality, race, gender and age is really taking the fun out of the whole concept of having romances in games, some of these posts are just taking things to far on a feature that is 100% OPTIONAL. Now don't get me wrong I like romances in my games cause I'm a romantic but geez some of you need to chill out, its just a video game, its fiction, not a extension of real life.

I'm so happy I stick with rpgs and the ones I play often have a CC.

All hail character creation. <3

Certain people can't seem to learn that simple fact, which is why they throw a fit when a gay character is put in a video game as LI.

It's funny because Liara was ME1 style and the others DAO style making this picture utterly wrong.

It's also "funny" because it only mocks the female romances, with the exception of Garrus fleeing from a lovestruck Shepard, because teh female fans be crazy yo! Strange, I thought straight men only wanted women as sex objects to be ogled in their games? Women being teh crazy emotionally unstable types who only want teh sex Cullen and Garrus, doncha kno!

Besides that, it's a deliberate mischaracterization of the romances in both game series. If you just want teh sexy bits, possibly, but the romances with Ash, Garrus, Isabela, Morrigan, Leliana, Zevran and others provide moments of vulnerability and insight between your character and them that is for more substantial than any "tehehe, I dun sexed the redhead!" Which is how some like our friend here who are against romances (but not female objectification or the exclusion of gay or bi characters, interestingly enough) tend to characterize people who do enjoy romances. Which is also odd because there are plenty of reasonable people who don't like romances but are OK with them if done well--and understand that they're optional. And there are plenty of people who do like romance, who aren't teens with a LiveJournal, and would prefer it done well too.

Also, the comic presumes that all the female characters, with one token male character, are just there for eye candy and have no depth or personality. This meme has been repeated ad nausea and changed from opinion to fact over time. No amount of evidence to the contrary seems to change it.

Now don't get me wrong I like romances in my games cause I'm a romantic but geez some of you need to chill out, its just a video game, its fiction, not a extension of real life.

Please don't start with, "it's just a video game," again.  Even the gaming industry recognizes it's more than "just a game" that and to use the words of a few companies, "It's time we grew up and took responsibility for how our product impacts people."

It's not just the romance content.  You're missing the point when folks, including me, ask for representation.  It's also about seeing LGBT characters in general.  For instance, my character is not going to have to just romance Dorian to find out he's gay.  Or to find out that Iron Bull is bisexual.  Believe it or not, after years of the overwhelming majority of straight heroes (mainly men,) folks would like to see bi, gay and trans heroes as well.  People that might not just want to "get the girl" if they are a guy, or for some ladies, they want the lady knight on the shining white horse instead.  Or want to be the lady knight rescuing the female princess.  You get the point.

In this game, they have romances.  This is why that not just the LGBT community, but straight roleplayers love this content.  Straight men and women enjoy LGBT content as well.

Do you know how often gay men in particular are villains in games?  The answer would stagger you, and I'd recommend googling gay video game villains.  Or heck, just google "gay male video game characters."  They are most of the time either villains or jokes in video games, if they are in a game at all.

Imagine if your sexuality was almost entirely either villains or joke characters. Not a hero or heroine that was straight, just all gay or bisexual characters.  A straight character?  Maybe here or there.  Usually as a villain, a hooker or "sissy boy."

Games like Persona are extremely rare.

Remember, 30 years of the video game industry is affecting the way people think.  30 years of any mass media will do that to a culture.   That's longer than some of this forum have been alive.  For me, that's exactly like someone saying, "Oh, we don't need gay characters in movies.  That's just a sidekick character, s/he's OPTIONAL."

So, please stop staying that.  It's obvious that a lot of folks feel that it is important to them.  It's fine if you disagree, but I respectfully ask that you at least try to understand where the LGBT community is coming from.

Just post your ideas about the Disney characters as Inquisition characters.  If you are waiting for the right moment (high tension) the moment is now!

By let it go, I mean do it...by using Disney song lyrics.

Edit: Because you can't hold it back anymore.

Personally despite being a straight male I find playing as gay characters to be a wonderful experience. To me they are just like anyone else and seeing what they experience on a daily basis adds perspective.

I feel like we should just start posting a link to the "Freaking out the Neighbors" panel from GaymerX anytime one of these people comes into a romance thread. That panel did a great job of addressing/answering all these types of complaints/comments. David Gaider, Patrick and Karin Weekes answered these 'questions' better than I can.

I have yet to see Frozen. I mostly want to see it to understand the cultural references people make.
