I still think Cole should have been a romance option.  Would have been akin to Thane's doomed romance methinks.

Can love bloom between a woman and a....a spirit?

I believe he was ruled out since he is a minor

By the way, thanks Mr. Gaider, for stopping by and posting.  Hopefully you're feeling better and starting to get back up on your feet.

.

I bet he gets a migraine every time he hears the word romance.  Even uttered in every day conversation, outside of the Bioware forums.

Man, I just saw The Notebook.  What a great romance it weaved!

*Gaider suddenly feels a sharp agonizing pain in his head*

Romance-related discussion of Inquisition with romance as a tertiary game feature in its own romance-related thread?  How outlandish.

"Stop caring about stuff I don't care about. I care so little that I will post over and over how you shouldn't care."

I believe he was ruled out since he is a minor

At this point, I'm unsure what level of mental fitness or maturity I'm supposed to see in Cole. I hope the game explains it better than the forums do.

I don't think physically he's a minor (hard to tell since he's a spirit/demon and all), but he has been described as having the mind of a child.

I would be 100% okay if Bann Teagan is a surprise romance option. Let me knock on the Ban's backdoor Bioware! (Hahaha it's never going to happen *sobs*)

As far as sexuality goes, yeah.  He literally has no concept or point of reference for it.

While we're on the subject, Murdock in DAO and Seneschal Bran in DA2... as long as he stopped going to the Blooming Rose :v

I wonder if Bran even survived the chaos of DA2s endgame though 8C

Honestly, Dorian alone is worth five gay romance options. I'm a straight-as-an-arrow male but if I were gay, I'd be all over Dorian. That moustache!  And those robes!  He's swag personified!

This.....is how I feel right now. I'm of the belief that quality > quantity and the way Dorian's being described makes him sound like the acme of perfection; dashingly handsome with a roguish charm, intelligent, and idealistic. He's definitely worth more than 5 :P

I'm personally thrilled with just Dorian and Iron Bull, but I can sympathize with those who want equal options for every demographic.

I believe Hawke's mother mentions that to a female Hawke when she mentions trying to find you a suitable husband if you go up and click on her after that I think thats when she says that.

Unrelated question to the topic but whats Cards Against Thedas? DA style of Cards Against Humanity?

Justice also didn't understand anything about sex.He had Kristoff memories so in theory he could remember sex but ...probably saw this as some random bodily function.Like eating etc...

Anyway chances are spirits and demons have no sexual drive at all.

Even desire demon probably only care about sex because it's a human desire , and can use it to get their prey.

I'm not sure why you would assume that's the case.

Either way, I'm not suggesting you should be happy if you don't get the same number of options as someone else-- "be glad for what you get and shut up already" sort of thing. It'd be nice if we received the benefit of the doubt, or at least waited until they knew whether there was actual cause for alarm, but either way I've stated what our priorities are. Ultimately, we've set out first to write stories that we were interested in writing, and to give players of all genders and preferences some choices and content specifically with them in mind. There's no way to please everyone, but I guess we'll see how it plays out.

I'm sorry if anything I wrote is undeserved. I was writing about hypothetical situation that was discussed on this thread for some time. I'm generally this grumpy about the game only here, probably because I still believe that hearing different opinions matters to devs.

(Sorry for the delayed reply, got distracted with the Sims 3, what a drug this is)

Hmm, you make good points. Sometimes the fiction can be unclear how much of an analogy we're supposed to see. After all, seeing elves and dwarfs overcome biases against each other to work together is great in, say, Lord of the Rings. But no one is going to argue that elves are white people and dwarfs are black people; that'd be silly and with unfortunate and illogical implications for everyone. And it also doesn't have to be a story of overcoming racial differences, in LotR's case. One can see it as cultural or ethnic ones, too.

I think it's the human perspective bias, because we didn't grow with other species, and because the fantasy species look human enough, we tend to see them as gimmicky human, so we write them as gimmicky humans, but I don't think it does the fantasy setting justice. Especially for DA which likes to deconstruct the fantasy setting, there's still this core feeling that it was written through the prism of human perspective. Mind you, I'm not really complaining, as it's only natural, we are not cold machines that exist in a vaccum after all...but I think it's interesting to try and imagine the deep psyche of people in a setting as fundamentaly different as ours.

Also, I wonder if maybe I and others see more of a disconnect between fantasy fiction racism and real life racism because I and likely others have not or might not have been on the receiving end of racism in real life? Would that make it hard to disassociate lived experience with actual racism to "fantastic racism" in-game? But then I realize: not only can I not speak to that, it's also neither the question nor the issue at hand. The question was whether or not racial, or I suppose "species" preference you could call it, is racist in a fantasy setting? I'll grant you that interhuman relationships is different from human relationships with other humanoid races. And you make a good argument that a preference does not imply prejudice motivating it. Sometimes it is, but it would not have to be.

It is a very good question, I for instance am a pro elven independance, which would require the elves to have their own nation, because if the elves don't have one, they'll never be masters of their own destiny, which is something I truly belive in (that people have to be their own masters). But how would it work ? will humans have the right to live there ? I suppose...what about to own land ? hmmm it's tricky...and wield power ? well no way, as it wouldn't be a "elven nation" anymore. But where the legitimate rights for humans ends and the overstepping on the elven rights begin ? That's a sticky question, I went around the problem by creating rather strong willed protagonists who know where to draw the line, but personally I wouldn't know, and that creates a cognitive dissonance: in order to obtain something I strongly belive in, I'll have to make things that would make me uncomfortable in the real world...it kind of makes my head spin.

That's actually not true. Neanderthal was different species, and there are some evidences for interbreeding.

Yes, but what impact had it on our civilization ? the Neanderthal were long exict by the time somebody could write about it.

Honestly, I wonder how many people will replay this game enough to experience all the romances? I know I will, be it straight, gay, Bullsexual. Hells knows a lot of people managed to play the romances in DA:0 twice with having so many playthroughs. Though... in DAII I couldn't bring myself to romance Anders, so I never got to see that.
