You have to take her by herself to get that I think, she says something about how you should be nice to her..not really attraction or anything but still. Acts all Aveline like.

I don't think or know if Bethany or Anders react to her bloodmagic, I think Fenris does though.

I think Bethany is also affected at the beginning. Because when I call Bethany to help me, she suddenly seems to wake up before throwing a spell.

Ok. Since you're gonna throw out such an enormously dumb blanket statement, give me some examples of lesbians written by gay men OR bisexual women that turned out to be demeaning.

OK. Ryan Murphy. In more than one of his TV shows. In Nip/Tuck, he made lesbian character fall in love and lust with a man. She even married him, but in the end he dumped her. Glee has been called out numerous times too for its handling of lesbians, though as far as I know Santana after suddenly "turning" into lesbian didn't sleep with a guy, though she made numerous sexual remarks to them, as well as comments how hot men are. Ryan Murphy is criticized for his misogyny as well.

Bryan Fuller. He made lesbian character have sex with a guy (and look like she was into it) in Hannibal, though nothing like that happened in original story, and then, used his gay male card to silence criticism.

Carter Covington. He's showrunner of "Faking It", TV show which was advertised as show about girls faking being lesbian for popularity. Despite this offensive-sounding premise, he asked lesbian audience to give this show a chance, that it's not what it looks like, etc. And indeed, it quickly turned out that one of the girls is apparently actual confused lesbian. And in the meantime, near the end, it was revealed by her actress that the character is indeed a lesbian and that she discussed it with showrunner.

And guess what. In the very end she not only slept with a guy and looked like she enjoyed it, but it was also a guy who's life purpose was to 'conquer' (actual quote from the actor) a lesbian. In one interview the showrunner was even asked why the scene looked 'sexy', and his excuse was that the director (who if I'm not mistaken is gay man too BTW) wanted to make it even more sexy, he toned him down.

The last example I'm not perfectly sure of, but I've read that current headwriter of BBC show "EastEnders" is gay man. He introduced confident lesbian character, who even told man who was hitting on her that it won't happen because she's gay, just to make her have sex with him month later.

From the top of my head, aside of Ryan Murphy, all examples are fresh.

Hey, how about we don't personally attack people or groups? You know, like the Site Rules tell us to not to do and we agreed.

ohyeah..."I don't know what came over me" or something..

Everyone probably has an interaction with her Bloodmagic but it's like the Fade, certain members are only queued up to say things if someone else isn't there. Aveline and Varric are more blocked out by other people.

This! Words failed me after I have read her comment. I don't read such dumb statements very often. -.-

I guess I just prefer the idea of an openly bisexual male LI, rather than another one that seems to vastly prefer women and/or be vastly more comfortable talking about women.

I get that.  We have discussed that once or thrice before.  I think it would be great to see a bi dude that is skewed more toward men.

I just dislike when discussions edge toward 's/he must be hetero because s/he expressed one to three lines of interest toward a man/woman in the past' justifications.  It doesn't prove it.

I usually get Varric. Fenris is the one I rarely hear.

Wow.

It's good to know that (potentially) having insufficient romance options specifically tailored for one's interests is a form of oppression... and if one can simultaneously imply that that potential must exist because the lead writer either hates lesbians or can't understand them, all the better.

I was about to respond to some earlier concerns, but I think this is the point where I need to stop looking at this thread altogether.

Sorry, you said it yourself that you guys wrote the remaining romances just the way you wanted them to be. What's unreasonable in conclusion that if the hypothetical situation that lesbians are getting only 2 options is the reality, then perhaps having more diversity in your writing team, and actual lesbian writers, could change this outcome?

As for gay men writing lesbians, that was actually loose remark based on accusation that had nothing to do with my original point. As far as I know you never wrote any lesbian romance anyway so it's a bit pointless (I never thought you have some kind of final word that prevented more lesbian options, assuming that's what will happen, I rather assumed it's the case of collective agreement), but yeah, just judging from all portrayals that I know it really doesn't look too good. Maybe because there is no common point, especially while social issues are ignored, like it is in Dragon Age games. But please, prove me wrong.

I feel the sexuality of the character should be part of character and not a defining characteristic that it appears to be from my casual observations. I guess from reading the posts and tweets it appears that way, I shall have to play the game to see how the characters and romances are actually handled.

I feel for David who must have had to develop Dragon-hide.

I know it's an open discussion forum welcoming different opinions, but it feels like BioWare invited people round for a party only to find some of the guests p*****g on the carpet.

*irony on* yes, it's Biowares fault because their lead writer is gay, and many many maaaaany gay people tend to create lesbian characters in a demeaning way. *irony off*

Gas on the fire, I know but honestly, the devs owe us nothing.  People who want their dwarf quizzy to romance a qunari, folks who want to romance Varric, gay, lesbians, straights - none of us are owed one darned thing from the folks at Bioware except an awesome RPG experience!  While romances add a lot to the game for me, since I can play as any race/gender/class combination of characters in order to romance all the LIs, I have all the choices that anyone else has.  For example, just because someone doesn't want to play a gay male, doesn't mean they don't have the choice to romance Dorian - they just don't like that choice.

Folks, it's love - when has it ever been fair?

She's not a troll. Her evaluation of the representation of lesbians on TV is spot on.

I don't want a repeat of the Vivienne thread though.

Wow.

She was specifically asked to explain how gay men have misrepresented lesbians in traditional media.

I wish they would just tell us who the last two are, because this is just going to get more and more toxic at this point. Yes, people will likely be mad when the options come out and then they will get over it or, at worst, leave. You rarely hear anything about the monosexual LIs anymore, despite anger about them when they were released. The longer it goes, the more people are just going to tear into each other because they're afraid they'll be the ones getting shorted. I wish they would just tell us and then move on to talking about other features.

I'm putting money on Vivienne being a relationship option, and Blackwall.

I think Varric is unlikely, because the Bianca story arc isn't resolved, and Solas is seemingly an old(ish) man.

Where did I say that? I never stated that lesbians are hypothetically getting short end of the stick because Gaider is gay man. I suggested that if that's what happens, then perhaps it's because there are no lesbians in their writing team, so no one felt any special need to fight for it.

I mentioned my loose thoughts that I personally don't know any lesbian portrayal done by gay man that wasn't bad (and when asked, gave examples), but those were just loose thoughts mentioned as a response to opinion that everyone could write any character well - it had nothing to do with this situation and I regret writing it, since it's already used to twist my point.

I'm pretty sure Solas is younger than Blackwall though. PW said Solas is mid forties, I believe.

Yeah, he said early to mid 40s for Solas.
