I never played Mass Effect, but that just seems funny. Haha, poor male shephard trying his moves on someone of who he doesn't realise is a lesbian. Am I the only one who sees the humor in this?

Yep

Think about it from the perspective of a woman who only likes women, who has grown up in a society that tells her that she should make herself appealing and available to men, EVEN when identifying as a lesbian, and it's not that funny.
Sam Traynor isn't a terrible character, but everything about her sexuality seems tailored towards titillating male gamers, even if in a "humorous" way. It isn't so funny to hear Traynor gush about how much she loves vibrating phallic objects..even Kahlee Sanders' used sex toys, wow, thanks, Weekes, I really feel that you aren't there for the "straighties".
I gottas say, playing a male Shepard who doesn't hit on her I don't recall encountering any of that. She simply came across as an attractive, slightly nerdy woman.
And if maleShep did hit on her, well, Traynor gets to shut him down much more nicely than Shep got to shut down unwanted advances from most other characters...
Samantha was a great character treated badly, but:

Was that toothbrush mentionned outside that small dialogue in the base game ?

Well, the toothbrush helps us get into the Normandy when the Citadel DLC villain steals it.

In ME2 I reached a point where I could no longer talk to Miranda, Tali, or Jack because they all thought I was in love with them.
You know, I never made the connection between Sam's tooth brush and a vibrator. That went right over my head.
I thought syllogi's comment was in reference to her saying "...she has great taste in adjustable massage wands" in the video, which did sound contrived, tbh.

Yes, but I don't think it was meant to be an obssession of Traynor, I mean it was only to illustrate that the Normandy was sudden, and it only came up in Citadel because it had reach memetic levels.

Kahlee's used Hitachi Magic Wands are more blatant and obvious, but I have always been extremely suspicious of the fact that they chose to make a lesbian character obsessed with her vibrating, expensive toothbrush.
Eh Samantha was never really a romance I cared to try, I had Liara and her's was I felt the most well done and rewarding romance in the series so I was more than content with her for my femshep. From some of the scenes I've seen of Samantha's romance uh they just come off looking horribly awkward, showering in underwear springs to mind. ![]()
I always felt her romance arch had this certain ick factor, it didn't appeal to me as a gay woman, I'm sure it prob appealed to plenty of guys for obvious reasons le sigh, kinda came off as degrading and sleazy to me. I haven't played the Citadel DLC and I don't really want to look at that broshep flirting fail, it would probably just irritate me so I'd rather not.
I think it'll be neat if they someday make a butch lesbian romance option. There's nobody in DA:I who would really fit that, other than maaaaaybe Cassie (who is still a bit more conventionally feminine than I associate with that label), who turned out to be straight.
Not to over-fixate on butch/femme dynamics or anything, but all of the same sex love interests they've ever provided for females - silk fox, liara, kelly, traynor, merrill, isabella - are pretty distinctly feminine, presumably because they are also supposed to appeal to straight males. Throwing a butch character into the mix would be a nice show of diversity along with addressing some of the "bioware is only so accommodating to lesbian romances because their male audience thinks girl-on-girl is hot" thing.

It's sad that the romance is more (in)famous for this (sad but unsurprising), but I liked the light flirting in the deck after missions, and the pre-final mission romance scene was totally on par with Liara's, not to mention all that drama-free-ness (it that a word ?). Oh and in Citadel, you get to shut-up kiss her.
I don't know how much of it is "appeal to straight males" so much as "avoid playing to the stereotype".
I don't mean to insult anyone, writers or otherwise, but I sometimes wonder if the lesbian/bi female characters aren't sexualized for men in these f/f scenes, so much as just that they're mostly written by straight men and this is what they'd want, so they just assume it's also what lesbians would want. They obviously seem to think straight men want the camera glued on Miranda's ass, so it's not surprising, if so.

If that was what they were going for, they failed completely, trust me. I was pretty insulted with the whole hot tub scene, because it portrayed Shepard as a drooling, unprofessional moron.
And the drunken conversation with EDI was the absolute low point of an otherwise pretty spectacular DLC. It made me feel ill.

To be fair, the camera also seemed to be in love with Admiral Hackett's ass when he boarded the Normandy before the last mission. It was like ''Yeah, Hackett has a totally hot body, let's wait for a face shot until the entire hallway crew has had a chance to admire his fine buttocks''.

Versus the single femShep either date-raping Vega or mysteriously waking up next to Javik/Tali drunkenly proposing a threesome with Garrus/Ashley Gone Wild ![]()
I mean, I try to not take it too seriously (and I really did enjoy it overall, and thought most of the character interactions were really touching) but there's a whole lot of weird sexist tropes in there. And it seems like regardless of which gender you play in ME, a lot of the characters either are in love with you or think you're in love with them... Something I'm glad was handled a lot better with the romances in DA.
Vega is definitely the worst thing ME did. Holy crap, how did they think that was alright? Just.. I don't even.
I honestly don't see DA ever doing something that far afield, though. Call me hopeful.

Hey, Fem-Shep/Javik was a surprisingly popular ship.

That may be the case - hell, I'd be lying if I said the idea isn't interesting... And had they made it something you could choose to do it'd be fine. It's more the notion that my unattached female character couldn't keep it in her pants at her own party after having a few drinks... without any input from me, the player. This after the Vega thing... after the Jacob auto-flirts....

Yeah, I meant ME, but also some cases in general media outside Bioware.

If I recall, it's not that you automatically end up in bed with Javik, but it's rather easy to accidentally end up in bed with Javik.
I remember when I played a fem-shep I actively tried to get the Javik scene and couldn't make it happen, though that may have been because the Thane romance seemingly locked me out of everything else, running my plan of going from Liara to Thane to Sam.

I always disliked the auto flirts, why would i want my lesbian femshep who was dating Liara or Samantha to continually sound like she wanted Vega in bed whenever they had a 1 on 1 chat ![]()
