I'm feeling uneasy about this "who's the most romanceable" popularity contest...
I just think it fuels some people who are for this character or that character something to gloat about. I haven't seen anything just yet in the forums and for a lot of other people, it's a booster of sorts. But my experiences mostly led me into witnessing something rather competitive when it comes to things like this. Oy, fandom...

I hope Vivmancers (that's what they're called, right? or am I getting her mixed up with Varric?) get on it soon. It's said to see Vivienne in last place.
Speaking of colloquial names for fans of certain characters, what are they all exactly? I know "Cullenite", "Solassian", and "Varricmancer" for sure, but I don't know what the others refer to themselves as...?
Posters on the Vivienne thread have thus far avoided giving themselves a stupid name. Let us hope it stays this way.

I'd have voted Cassandra if she were an option for me. And I would have voted for Vivenne if she were a confirmed romance, though that certainly doesn't appear to be stopping the Solas fans.

Maybe it's a male LI thing then?

I'm a bit surprised how few votes Vivienne has gotten. I mean, I didn't expect her to be one of the most popular, but I thought she'd be higher than she is. I know she's not confirmed, but I assumed most people were still expecting her to be in.

I do not think this Survey is representative of anything.
Mostly because it is of the BSN, which has a very different stretch of Opinions than the Rest of the World.
Secondly, because I managed to misunderstand the Question and voted for Josephine instead of Vivienne.
Nothing against Josephine - which I think will be the most popular Romance after everything is taken into Consideration and which I'll definitely romance at some Point - but I want Vivienne the most.

Interesting. There are 300+ votes cast and the three top vote receivers are: 1.) Solas; 2.) Cullen; and 3.) Sera.
I'm surprised. I knew that Solas had a strong fan base, but I wasn't expecting him to be that high, especially since he's not even confirmed as an LI. Similarly, I knew that Cullen probably has the largest fan base, but I thought his NPC status might affect him, but I guess not. Sera, being a s/s only romance, I thought would be lower as well. Looks like enough gals (and guys who don't mind playing as gals) are interested in her.
Very interesting results. (*Standard disclaimer about the limited generalizability of this data, blah, blah, blah)

I don't think we've come up with something for Dorian, though... That isn't to say people should be in a hurry to make one up!

I think it might be in part Cullen's NPC status that's hurting him. I'm sure a handful jumped ship due to his gender availability, too. Considering Cullen's perceived popularity as a male character and the BSN being more likely to focus on males generally with this kind of thing (Cullen and Solas have easily the most fan pages and eclipse all the female fan threads, Dorian is third), the statistics are actually pretty low.
I think unconfirmed status is actually helping some people on this, though. People are likely to be in cheering mode for those left they're hoping to see in the last slots. I've seen some people in fan threads saying they betrayed ____ character to throw their vote in with a hopeful.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Quite frankly, we start the rapid slide into ridiculousness once we get into things such as tallying the number of posts and pages each LI thread has, like it's some sort of contest. The point of doing so is moot anyway, since, like I've said before, we posters in this forum only represent a tiny fraction of those who are going to play the game -- especially when you take into account that thread bloating is often largely due to a relatively few number of people who are frequent posters in it.

Well the question doesn't state anything about confirmed status, just about preference.

This. Every single poll that's been done on the forums previously shows a massively different skew than the actual telemetry. Which shouldn't be surprising—the type of person it takes to come to a game's forum, never mind come to the forum well before or after release, is a far different person than your average fan. They bought the game the same number of times, and thus are equally important in the overall scheme of things, with the only real difference being their interest in continuing to talk about it online.
So, speaking statistically, any poll here is indicative only of the views of forumites--or, by extrapolation, the likely views of the very hardcore percentage of players. Which is neat, but one cannot extrapolate further than that.

Minority characters seem to be very unpopular with the masses, Jacob, Sky, Vivienne, Cortez. I guess it's just taste, but I am a bit sad how skewer it is.
#19096
Posté 24 juillet 2014 - 04:17
The thing about the poll is that it's not even just an issue of it being only people that come to the forums. It's also only going to be people that are especially interested in the romance feature that actually vote. Not everyone that does a romance cares enough to click an offsite link to make sure their input gets counted in a random poll. I do think it's passingly entertaining to see the results, but it shouldn't really be taken seriously. Although, it seems like nobody was really taking it that seriously?

The only part that interests me is how the results from this poll will compare with a similar one after the game is released. I think right now a lot of the popularity or unpopularity of a character hinges on assumptions people are making based on very, very little information.
Minority characters seem to be very unpopular with the masses, Jacob, Sky, Vivienne, Cortez. I guess it's just taste, but I am a bit sad how skewer it is.
The vibe I'm getting with Vivienne is that people are put off by what we know about her personality. I'm willing to bet that will change when she turns out to be as amazing as I hope she will be.

Based on the bsn, you'd think that everyone played and prefer femshep. Reality : Only 18 % played femshep in M2 and M3.
Based on the bsn, you'd think that Miranda is hated, despised by almost everyone. Reality : 40% romanced her in M2, while Tali who had the biggest fanbase ever ( and also very fanatic ), only 25%.
Based on the bsn, you'd think that playing a human is boring for most people. Reality of it, most players play humans and didn't care about other races.
Male characters are more popular on the bsn for the romances ? I bet that the result will be different with all the players. They will be far behind the female characters, like in M2.
