I really enjoyed the romance with Samantha Traynor in ME3 so I believe it can be done. This time it looks like the advisors might even go outside for a few missions with us.

Traynor is definitely a subordinate relationship. Everyone on the ship is, honestly, even if they tried to play coy with 'the regulations don't technically apply.' Shepard's still the boss of the team and the ship.

About the only non-subordinate sex scene Shepard could have in the entire trilogy was the Consort, and calling a relationship is, eh-

Considering how much time Shepard spent on the Citadel and Omega, it wouldn't have been hard to have a lover at port for when you returned.

The LI cheating on their partner with us idea got more positive feedback than I expected.

I think there are a lot of interesting ways they could go with the idea, which is one of it's strengths.

Unlike that other idea, your idea does not necessarily make the PC (and Player) veeeery uncomfortable with himself.

That's nice. It also would have been nice had Jack never offered to sleep with you until after you did the loyalty mission.

It would have changed the character and the nature of the relationship with Shepard regardless of whether you took her up on the quickie or not, but I'm sure it would have been nicer.

And in this case, I would say that my design of this hypothetical character is better than yours. I don't think it's a good idea to create a romantic relationship that begins in fear.

As long as the majority of romance options aren't dean's scenario I don't have an issue with one LI slot being taken up by such an experiment. And that romance doesn't include ninjamancing.

More than one though is where I'll =/

I'm still wondering why she didn't get an invite to the Citadel party.

Or Ken and Gabby, for that matter. They would have been great in the poker scene.

Lol, reminds me of that discussion from a long time ago, when some people said they would be upset with Bioware, if a previous LI could cheat on an old protagonist with the Inquisitor.

That's nice. I don't think it's a good idea to create a romantic relationship with mentally and/or emotionally disturbed people, but it's one of the most popular parts of Bioware games.

I was glad when Bioware challenged people with openly gay relationships, and I'll be even gladder when they challenge people with issues of coercion and the perspective of someone on the other end of the empowered protagonist.

Same sex content doesn't exist in Bioware games to "challenge" straight people. It's there for representation purposes and because Bioware wanted to offer options for the enjoyment of LGB people. The way you've framed this is like they added this content as a PSA to make a contrary audience feel ways about things. That's not why it's there and I'm not for them adding content that just exists for this purpose.

Yea, people just don't like the LI cheating on them concept in general, even if the LI is cheating on them with them.

But who exactly is cheating on who in that case?

I think said LI's partner would have to be wholly unsympathetic for this idea to work well.

Actually Kaidan being a Spectre puts him on the same level. And in the Alliance, with Shep's demotion and Alenko's promotion, I think he technically outanks Shepard in that regard. Ashley's rank is about equivalent to the Commanders' in the third game, I think. Even if Shep is in charge, the VS romance option, by the third game at least, is on more or less equal footing with Shep. I view Garrus in a similar light because he's risen in the ranks within the Turian Hierarchy. (Generals are saluting him, remember?)

I was actually not surprised when Thane died. I mean, you go into that relationship knowing his illness is terminal. Might as well give him the chance for a heroic sacrifice. Even with their future science, a feasible cure for his syndrome is years away. It's not like he and Shep were ever going to have a traditional 'happy ever after' romance. I actually liked the Citadel additions for Thane too, because in the vanilla game it seems a bit weird that Shep doesn't seem broken up about it ever.

Yes and what interest me in this kind of romance is that how can I justifyi my PC to do such a thing. Of course if my PC is totally awful then it's easy but I think that it would be more interesting if my PC would be very nice to everybody and tries to save everybody and she just have this one flaw which is that she is interested in LI who already has a partner.

oh no. I think that is too much for me.

I don't know.

Been watching this show, Da Vinci's Demons, which has several sympathetic characters cheating on their significant others who are also sympathetic.

I think it's viable in theory.

Slow build. Start early in the game, giving the PC and the LI plenty of opportunity to fall for each other while at the same time showing the relationship between the LI and their significant other is a flawed and strained one while still showing that their partner has sympathetic qualities.

Let that build for a good portion of the game before the moment of truth and let the player decide whether they'll give into temptation or not.

Yeah I don't mind this notion if one of multiple romance options, as it is very much a case of offering the player an open moral quandary and letting them act as they see fit.

Yeah, it's like sometimes you use your left hand instead of your right hand and it just feels wrong.

Agree about Garrus but not Kaidan. Sure, Kaidan became a Spectre and volunteered to assist Shepard, but he was initially his/her subordinate, and I think that would also be a factor in the relationship (FYI I'm a Kaidan-mancer)

I'd also add Liara; she's a scientist and she's there on her own volition.

Because she wasn't a real romance. Feeding your fish and doing a lame dance for you is not romance.

She grants you the Paramour achievement in ME3 if you continue her relationship, so yes she is a real romance.

Nope, she isn't. She didn't had romance lines nor romance scenes.

It's like Allers.
