I don't really understand the reasoning behind keeping the orientations secret.
The only thing I can think of is that keeping things under wraps if they are not set in stone. But with only a few months away and some of romance stuff are revealed, how much still hasn't been decided?
DG has stated time and again that he'd prefer that all the players would go into the games without this knowledge. Perhaps he's finally talked the marketing people around to his way of thinking. ![]()
I'm fine either way. I have lots of fun speculating, but knowing helps me think about my next characters. Going in blind for once might be entertaining.
It seems like most players here on the forums want to know in advance, though. Or wouldn't care if they did know in advance.

Oh, I'm not arguing that. I can understand, though, why a writer would want to keep it all a secret, let the gamer figure it out organically instead of ahead of time.
On the other hand, I get that a lot of players want guarantee that they'll have an option no matter their sexuality. I kinda hope they'll at least come out and say, "Yes, there is a gay male LI, too," or something along those lines. Even if they don't name names, it's still good for reassurance.
(For what it's worth, I'm guessing they will announce the LI's at some point. Good publicity.)
I probably will not start a playthrough without knowing who the Love Interests are, and who they are available to, personally.
It won't make any difference whether I know or not. I don't really start my process until I'm looking at the CC. The idea of planning the game out months in advance is totally alien to me.
I'd rather know in advance, its really hard when spending time around the forums not to plan playthroughs, and thinking about which character will be a suitable LI is part of that. For me, this is why not knowing is annoying and knowing who the LIs are is not exactly a massive spoiler imo.
Falsehood? What are you talking about? Bioware sometimes does a really good job, offering content for the LGBT player. Like Dragon Age 2. And sometimes they don't. Like Mass Effect 2 or The Old Republic. And everytime a new game has been anounced, people have to tremble in uncertainty. Is there even one LGBT companion? Is there more than one? Which one is it? With a system like Dragon Age 2 no one would have to fear to be excluded. Everyone could play their perfect hero/heroine and romance the companion, they like the most.
I like the 2/2/2 system for example. It's a lot better then what they did in Mass Effect 2. But I still prefer the all/bi system. Simply because everyone could take joy in the same experience and no one would feel excluded.
David Gaider has adressed the issue a couple of times:
He wants to continue offering Lesbian and Gay characters a choice. He was very outspoken about that and has been quite frank to people who felt that this was not appropriate.
However, he also said that making all LIs bisexual like in DAII was driven from a ressource point of view of meeting the requirement "an option for every gender and orientation". Which means, if there is only time and budget for four different romances, all of them have to bisexual to satisfy that requirement.
Now, with Inquisition, Bioware had longer development time and apparently more budget, so they could create more romances. As a result, it was possible to make the romances more specific without losing the requirement "an option for every gender and orientation".
Just remember: An "all-bi-romances" system isn't by far the best system for all players. For instance, it would reduce the content of players who are very flexible in the gender and orientation. In one game, I might play a Femquisitor who romances Sera, in the next a Memquisitor who romances gay Dorian. With an all-bi-system, one of them could've been cut. However, I might not be interested in romancing the same companion twice, with two different genders.
And, as it has been said, a preference makes romance more specific. Some people like to have specific romances. For example, the kind of flirt lines, jokes and cultural references Varric makes towards my dwarfen lady might only make sense for my dwarfen lady, but might be totally out of line for a qunari.
In the end, the devs know that they can't please everybody. And they can't tell us what we will get (that's the job of marketing). So we have to trust them that they do their best. Or not. As you wish.

I plan out a little bit, like, I knew I wanted to be a female qunari ever since they were announced, and I kinda know her personality, but from there it's foolish to get your heart set on anything.
However, once the game's been out for awhile and I've learned the plots and choices, I metagame like it's my job.
From there it's about telling a story, not so much living one.
I think it's a good idea to reveal LIs (and what sexuality the LI is) in each month until October.
So I'm not sure if this has been answered elsewhere, but have any of the LI's been named yet? The only one I thought I'd heard was Cullen, and he and I are NOT on good terms!
Anyway, thanks for any info.
Cullen and Cassandra are confirmed LIs but their orientations are not known yet. And Sera was confirmed as the lesbian option.
Quick question now that i think of it.
A while back, out of no where, people seemed convinced Dagna was going to be in the game, (and potentially a male dwarf romance option) where on earth did that even come from?
It might be cool not knowing who's available to romance. It might be fun to discover who you can romance, especially if it isn't blatantly obvious.
If they release too much romance information compared to everything else, they risk giving an inflated impression of it's importance to the game. Which could turn off customers who aren't all that interested. And even mislead those customers who'd prefer less dragon killing getting in the way of their Dating Sim.
Plus, it wouldn't really be very meaningful to say that, say, Solas and Scribbles are romancable by guys when we really have no clue who they are.
edit: Why people think Dagna is going to return

Well, Dagna is in the game because of this image (behind the spoiler, because it's large):

Oh, i think thats ABSOLUTELY impossible. Bioware releasing some information here, with the super fans that are already pretty likely to buy the game, wont change anyone's opinion. The people with a passing interest in Dragon Age will look up a trailer, see a dragon fight, and thats as far as it will go.
Also, thank you for the information. Thats awesome. I always really liked her. If she is a romance option at all, i hope she will be for more then just dwarves.
There is some appeal of not knowing the sexual orientation of companions. Just like in real life just because you like somebody and you get along famously it doesn't mean they swing that way
"Hyena Gentials"
(Did it work? Has the subject been changed? Are we no longer arguing over "playersexual" vs. "set sexualities" again, for the hundredth time).
My legacy lives on i see ha ha.

Doesn't really stop a lot of fans from liking what they're heard or expect from the character and wanting to romance them just off of that.
I think there is greater potential for disappointment from not knowing the romance options than there is for pleasant surprise. Maybe espcially if you are playing as a dwarf or qunari.

Agree completely, don't find building a character from the ground up and experiencing miserable loneliness as rewarding.
Part of me likes going in blind and another part wants to have it all planned out.

I find that when i play these games, i never have as much fun on my first playthrough as i do on my subsequent ones.
Playthrough 1 i'm always paranoid about what i might be missing.
I had to google Dagna. Shame on me for not remembering her first. She was sooo cute. ![]()
