Fair enough. I don't necessarily need to marry anyone (or stay married in Skyrim's case). The main difference is the Skyrim romances ended whenever you wanted. You could fill in the blanks. They're like templates to write your own story, if you will. They weren't anything like "kissing Kaitlyn ".. because that's just a cutscene and ends there for all time. There's not much room for story there. You're being Told a story, and then it ends almost immediately.
I think I'm getting your point now. I do agree that it's nice to be able to tell your own story, so to say. However, I also prefer the game to acknowledge it in some way. If the "romance" ends up being 95% headcanon, 5% actual gameplay, well, I could as well be playing a tabletop RPG. And that's great, but not what I look for in my video games.
That's what I mean when I referred to my issue with Skyrim's approach. It's way too much headcanon and you don't see the story actually acknowledge the character you're creating that much. Maybe I should give it another try one of these days.

Needless to say, as a straight male, I think they covered a lot of bases pretty well in ME. Miranda/Ash/Jack/Tali/Liara. All pretty distinct women.
They just didn't follow through with Jack as well as the others (Miranda's probably runner up).

Straight females, however, got screwed. And let's not even talk about LGB ![]()

Yeah.. straight female options are....sparse. Or unnecesarily tragic, on top of an already tragic game.
As for LGB, I would've loved to have them in the Jackolyte club ![]()

I did some counting and for a straight FemShep, across 3 games, there was 4 options. One in ME1 (Kaidan), Three in ME2 (Jacob, Thane, Garrus) One of which cheats on you in between 2-3, and the other dies at the beginning of ME3. In ME3, there is two remaining. Bi FemSheps were much more fortunate, but straight ladies got rather shorted on the content. ![]()

Straight males got 5-6 (depending on whether or not you count Kelly), so it's not that big of a difference in raw numbers. Until ME3, that is, which didn't add anything new for straight people but took away options from straight women.
I'm not counting flings like Sha'ira or Allers, but straight females also got shafted in that department.

And I don't understand it. Why is it that their already small female playerbase had to experience even more tragedy.
Must be a bunch of dudes making these games.
Nothing against scribe girl, but I'm still hoping that I can choose between two companions.

The only comparable game I can think of to what ME3 did to FemShep is Bahamut Lagoon on the SNES, who actually has the ostensible childhood friend princess LI of the protagonist actually dump him and fall in love with her captor-turned-hero (who was totally worth it).

I still think Vivienne/Cassandra will be options (one bi/one straight).
I think Vivienne's LI chances went up when they announced the race-gate thing (and Sera being lesbian).
Well, technically, the problem was that straight females didn't really get screwed.
The thought did cross my mind, but I thought "Nah, too obvious a joke". Thank you for saving me from that debacle ![]()

<nod> Yep and yep.
Allers...ugh, if she wasn't a good War Asset, I would have kicked her off the ship. I found her character design extremely unattractive, and her personality wasn't much better.
I'm wondering if women will ever get more options than men. I don't want anyone to miss out content, but I do admit that it would be nice for once that the straight men (mainly those that are doing the most complaining about characters such as Sera being a lesbian) to be told that the one companion and the one NPC romance is plenty for them. ![]()

Had to do it. Though I did edit it slightly. So that counts for... something? (I felt weird typing straight females
).

All I can say to describe my reaction to finding out Sera wasn't into guys is.... ohthankgoditsnotvivieneistillhaveashot

I mean this:
- Dairren or Iona (Human Noble Origin)
- Teli and/or Mardy (male Dwarf Noble Origin)
- Gorim (female Dwarf Noble Origin)
- Isabela (this encounter is notable for its 'versatility')
- Various employees at the Pearl
- Cammen or Gheyna (Dalish Camp)
- Desire demon (the Fade, mage only)
- Bella (Redcliffe's tavern)
- Kaitlyn (Redcliffe's chantry)

Don't bring up Miranda's ME3 disappointing romance...it still stings to this day....

I understand the glee you might get out of this, but it would suck for us straight men who actually like a variety of personalities and characters.
Just being happy become someone is a "woman" or "there" is not really my idea of fun. ![]()

It was more of a shot at the folks that have rallied against Sera being a lesbian, and that "all the other lady companions were ugly." I honestly hope that we all get as equal content as possible.
2/4/2 is my preferred stance. ![]()

I've been "liking" everyone's posts with a 2/4/2 in it.
Gheyna, Bella and Kaitlynn were these male only? or did I miss more content.
I honestly have no idea. Haven't actually tried any of them.

Yes, those are all male only flirts.
*snip*

That seems a little harsh on us straight males. Why wish that on us? And when would this ever happen?

Yeah, I remember the end of that in ME3. Guys definitely got hit with the "for the dramaz!" stick with her. It seems like that a few LIs (minus Thane, since his fate did make sense) was chucked under the Plot Bus for the sake of forcing drama.
