Okay, um, how would the BSN lose interest in a hetero character? There would be some disappointment, but I'm betting interest would actually go up.

I don't see Solas as straight anymore, because like someone told me, there would be only elves for female gamers. I don't think it's likely.
I don't think BioWare care about all possible gender/race having access to all gender/race LI, they would have given us a dwarven romance since the first game otherwise. I actually think Solas is not romanceable though.

I can say that as much as Blackwall fascinates me, I wouldn't want to romance him even if he was available.
I see Solas as Bi with Iron Bull. And Varric might be female exclusive too with Cullen ( who isn't a companion )
I see him as being gay, if for no other reason that all other exclusively gay LIs have names that start with S(Samantha, Sera, Steve).

Hey, I think he's cute too, but I'm leery. In his thread, I put up the song "God's Gonna Cut You Down," by Johnny Cash. Sheryl Chee not only liked it, but commented that she had it on her own "Blackwall" playlist. That is a strong song, but definitely one sung by a guy that knows he doesn't have long for this world.

Yes, some disappointment, that will largely be gotten over by the game the game launches. I'm sorry if you disagree, but that's the truth. Most of the players are going to be more busy speculating on the rest of the companions to get upset by something expected. All of us expect to hear about a hetero romance sometime soon. Plenty of us know that there is a good chance our favorite for a LI isn't going to be available.
Again, interest is going to go up when the first hetero LI is announced.

If Iron Bull and Cullen were bi, they'd still have 3 different races to choose from. It's not like they can only choose the "exclusive" option if they don't like elves. At that rate, lesbians "only" have an elf.

I expect some of the romances to flat out leave you or die and I would be lying if I said I wouldn't expect it from Blackwall but some part of me would like to live in a bubble of pretend and hope for the best while the other part wishes to pop said bubble so I may deal with it now. If he is not an LI I just pray they don't give him an attractive voice or I'll be doomed. That said I can get behind a tragic romance I digged Thane's romance in ME2 though I knew he was dying I just didn't expect it to be in such a stupid way come ME3 and since each DAI game has separate heroes I think I can handle a tragic romance...........eventually.....maybe.......

I really don't see Cullen being bi. I mean, it was one thing with Anders, since he apparently was intended to be bi from the start, but only a female Warden gets to be the subject of Cullen's awkward crush. It seems far more likely that Dorian or Iron Bull or someone other dude will be bi.
