Technically you could have polyamory with Alistair if he was king and you were his mistress.
I don't see Bioware ever properly implementing something like that though. At least not between companions.
Would it work better with NPCs?

I'm fairly sure it would be logarithmic, not exponential, and I highly doubt memory space is the limiting factor. Bioware romance scenes have tended to be packed with emotion, not data.
File size isn't too big of an issue, and we can get creative with memory restrictions (and do) because we can put romance content in a unique area and due to control over the scene, forcibly despawn things out of the level and stuff like that.
I hope Varric remains asexual in regards to romance.
His affection with his crossbow has more emotional weight than any other romance in my opinion.
It has been done before with Jade Empire, so you never know, but it would have to be handles sensitively, with the right characters to be done well
Jade Empire had a threesome, which is a bit different than polyamory as Xil has described in the past.
Basically, an entire three-way romance arc.
I wouldn't know cause I only ever romanced Jack in 2 and Kaidan in 3.Hasn't Dragon Age always been much better than ME when it comes to the whole friendship versus romance thing?

Just so you know, it's affection-by-proxy to his old, probably deceased partner in crime, the original Bianca.

Don't care, that affection to his instrument of war gives me a warm feeling.

Ah, I've never actually played JE, the review I read suggested it was a three-way relationship. My bad.
It would be intriguing to see implemented, certainly, never say never ![]()
You know, there's something I'm somewhat interested in that no one ever talks about, and that's polyamory.
I grant that it's extremely hard to have work properly and may well be more trouble than it's worth to implement in any believable manner; I won't be upset with anyone at Bioware for not including it as an option. But I will say that, if there are two companions with the proper dynamics for it and it can be implemented without any major blunders... it would be interesting.
DG's talked about this before on his blog, actually. If I remember correctly his response was along the lines of 'having it an open thing your PC could propose with multiple people would be a complicated technical and writing nightmare and would not be worth the effort, but maybe one day when the right characters come along we could write a specific polyamory romance centred around those particular people'. So it's not something that seems to have been ruled out for ever happenning, it's just something that would have to wait for the right characters to come along. That's an incredibly heavy paraphrase, I'm sorry, it was a while ago.
I would have loved a polyamory romance arc with Fenris and Isabela, since they get together left to their own devices anyway.
Edit: I found the post in question and my memory of it was totally faulty, apologies. Actual post seems to imply the whole thing would be too complicated to bother with at the expense of writing other content, which I think is fair.
Deleting some posts about how some historically not disadvantaged gamers are now feeling picked on.
As a general note, this is why and how representation helps us all. A large part of us white guys getting sassed for being disappointed is because other, more typically not catered to groups are expressing a degree of schadenfreude because the few times I'm denied access to a type of content that other groups are much, much more often denied access to relative to me.
As such, if we improve representation all along, it puts people on more equal footing and when ALL people go "Awww I'm sad" then ALL people go "Awww, I feel for you, hopefully something is still there that makes you happy" instead of "Now you know how I feel!"
I don't want this topic to dominate the thread, so if anyone wants to discuss it further with me please sent me a PM. Thanks.
I can see why BioWare doesn't feel giving equal options to people who want to play dwarves or qunari or elves (or humans, for that matter) is as important as giving options to women and gay/lesbian players. And obviously there is not the same real world equality issue here.
But. Well.
I have never been able to play a human female protagonist who is remotely the same shape as me in any video game. I've never even seen one, and I don't really expect to given what video game protagonists and women in the media generally look like. While I may be a foot too tall to be a Dragon Age dwarf, part of the appeal of playing them is getting to build a hero who's short and curvy and solid just like me.
So when people talk about race-gating, I can't help hearing 'sorry, dwarves aren't attractive enough to go on this ride. Who'd want to romance a woman who looks like that?' And that makes me feel sad.
I appreciate the feedback and perspective! Thanks.
Please gods no racegating, free love for Thedas.
Hmmm...racial restrictions for romance would be an interesting venture, it might also encourage playthroughs as different races and also add more companion preferences ...I like it.
Can't wait to see it play out.

I feel like it wouldn't complicate things as much but that's just me. Poly can be a very strange thing to get involved in, and even fictionally, that's no different.
Not that it's impossible.
I have a headcanon where two of my wardens survived and entered into a threeway relationship with Zevran and they were all happy.
stopping by to drop off a tiny scrap, solas is mentioned in this article http://savegameonlin...age-inquisition
This link was posted on the Solas discussion thread (credit where it's due).
In this interview it's finally said that advisers, or as Mark Darah calls them specialists, are also romances. Cullen it's definitely one of them but I get the feeling that he's mentioning more then one. So yeah Scribbles could be a romance after all. ![]()
For those too lazy to open the link:
"This is the biggest cast of characters we’ve ever had, so there’s nine followers and then three specialists. These are the people who actually help you run the Inquisition. Some of those specialists are actually going to be romance options as well, so it’s not just party members. From a gameplay perspective, we want the relationships to be more realistic, so they’re built more through your interactions, and you bringing them along, as opposed to a visible number system that you’re just trying to get their affection up high enough. We want it to be something more about you actually having to interact."
Yes, yes.
But what is her name!?
Also.
Tash: Three quick questions. First one. True or false? Nicolas Cage is the face model for Solas.
Mark: *laughing* Nicolas Cage is not the face model for Solas.
Good thing I didn't actually plan any romance for my upcoming 9 characters...well except for one which was the direct consequence of other aspects of her personality, and luckily, her LI of choice will be avaible, so that's that done.
Sera being a lesbian companion proves that Bioware isn't afraid to put forward LGBT as important characters, not that I really doubt it, but it's not the same when I actually see it done. I've got a good feeeling we'll get choice restrictions as well, finally !

Although I'm happy to have Sera available to me. I would be willing to give her up to have the ability to romance Cassandra.
Nooo, Sera is good, let her stay.
But yes, i hope fInquisitors can romance Cass too.
But if Cass isn't available, at least i'd like to have a really good friendship path with her.... it'd be like unrequited love *cries*

There's always Vivienne and/or Scribe Girl (give her a chance
)
