It really is too bad that Bull is an active member of the Qun. Ben-Hassrath....he's probably best buds with Tallis and everything. Urgh.

Makes me want to reconsider romancing him if he is even available. Hopefully the Inquisitor can convince him to renounce the Qun and prove that he is loyal to the Inquisition- perhaps in an epic point of no return scene where we could possibly battle to the death if he chooses the Qun over the Inquisition..... Oh the possibilities..

I'm really hoping this for Iron Bull, also. I think he and my Inquisitor could be really good friends if he left the Qun. When I was thinking he was Tal Vashoth, the character interested me a lot more. My hope is that we can convince him to leave the Qun, since his convictions are already weak. I think it could be a very interesting branching path to either encourage him to leave the Qun, or to push him back towards renewing his faith. I would definitely try to get him out, myself.

I have to really wonder how he could even be a romance, though, if he was staying in the Qun. That's totally against their philosophy. They send you to "re-education" camps for it.

That's not necessarily a bad thing though, no?  If we're talking about appearance wise.

Well, the problem for me was that Tallis and some of the NPCs didn't look convincing as the same species, to me. That's just one example, but I think it may be the most extreme one.

tbh, my biggest problem when it comes to appearances in DA2 was the hideous makeup. Orana comes to mind.

Spoiler

I really hope they fix it in DA:I.

If you think about it, a Vashoth or a Ben Hessarath (sp?) are probably the only qunari you'd have a shot with, unless you were a qunari yourself.

I can't speak for everyone. The only thing I think you're missing is that it's insulting what they think is going to appeal to a certain orientation. "Oh you guys are in this category. Then you'll surely just like these two."

It doesn't work like that. People are attracted to specifics. Not to orientation.

This is an inherent restriction for romance in general.  I don't agree that we make characters with the idea of "this is going to appeal to a certain orientation."

I full on concede that for any group that thinks that a romanceable character is awesome, there's going to be groups that think that that romanceable character is not awesome.

You're the first person I've seen state that the attempts at improving representation is insulting, however.  Unless I've missed something.  But like, there are heterosexuals that didn't care for any of the romance interests in Baldur's Gate 2, which was a game that very much focused on straight men.

I think we can both agree that it's impossible to make a character that is universally appealing to everyone (of a particular orientation or otherwise).  I also feel that if everyone is given at least two options, then their pick of the pool is at worst, exactly the same as DA2's who only granted two matchings with a particular orientation; four if you opted to play as a bisexual character.

Are you saying it's insulting to the fans of say, Varric, because he wasn't romanceable in DA2 and those that wanted to romance him were out of luck while those that enjoyed the other romances got to unfairly reap the rewards of romance content?

He eats, drinks, and screws around according to his bio.

So he's already gotten a taste of freedom and likes it. Perhaps it wouldn't  be too difficult to bring him all the way over.

Hopefully.

That's fair, but if I remember, Tallis was based off Felicia, so unless they go that route for the crucial Elves in upcoming game - I don't expect the same thing to stand out, but if it does, it depends on if it breaks your belief or not.  And the more humanoid look tends to happen, just in general, depending on how "alien" certain races tend to get created beforehand.

*shudder* Good lord. I just have to wonder if she never used a mirror. Clown makeup to the max.

She was a slave to a crazed blood mage Tevinter magister, so she might not have had access to a mirror.

I thought Merrill's makeup in Origins was far worse, and didn't have the backstory of a slave as an excuse for it.  So far though, I'm enjoying the look of the Inquisition elves.  They all seem to have full lips so far, and the more elegant (and proportional) almond shaped eyes that I've always liked in most depictions of the race.

HEY GUISE... what if everyone is romanacble? Except for the ones we know won't be?

I... have considered this.  There are enough guys to evenly split them down the line: 2 straight, 2 bisexual, 2 gay. The problem comes when trying to put them into a semblance of fairness. Here's a tenative setup:

STRAIGHT - Cassandra; Varric, Blackwall
BISEXUAL - Vivienne, Scribbles; The Iron Bull, Cullen
GAY - Sera; Dorian, Solas

Varric goes for Elf/Dwarf, and Blackwall for Human/Qunari, and you've got a fair spread. Cassandra is unrestricted.

Dorian goes for Human/Dwarf, and Solas for Elf/Qunari. Sera is unrestricted.

The bisexual area... gets a bit messy.

Vivienne would be Human/Dwarf. Scribbles would be Human/Elf/Qunari. The Iron Bull would be Human/Qunari. Cullen would be Human/Elf/Dwarf.

Phew. Put barely more legibly:

Spoiler

It's not realistic--too much gating, really, to be easily explained in the narrative--but it could happen. And everyone but Cole and Leliana are LI's!

Laughed really hard when I saw who was in the picture. That was awesome. She does look bad, but that's one of the bad ones.

I do love the new models for most of the elves ( I.E Merrill, Fenris, Marathari, Orsino, Lea, etc. The ones they took at least  some time in generating looked great. I get why Orana looked hallowy though, if it was intentional by the devs.

Am I the only person that doesn't seem to mind that Iron Bull is of the Qun? At least he's straight up about it and doesn't seem like the type that would try to convert my PC (unlike Talis) I'd like to think that I'm not -that- taken with him yet at least, hopefully.

Hadriana seemed the vain type to me. There must've been mirrors somewhere.

Yeah Origins had some wtf faces. And so far liking them too.

I'm talking about the DAI females...

Nope. Plenty of Dorian fans want him bi that wouldn't stop the devs from making him m/m only so why should it stop them from having Solas be bi. :P

Good lord Skyrim elves. *shudders*

I did not start rthat game til I installed the motherload of face, hair and body mods. Nope. Nope nope nope.

Attitude wise, none of them are remotely near that attitude of a school girl. You have nothing to fear.

I don't mind! I generally don't mind Qun. I love Sten and while Tallis was a bit preachy ( I feel like because she's Elf in Qun she was pushed to substitute for it by being a total tool) , I didn't mind her.

It's more insulting that you've made a human heavy group, tbh. The orientation thing just complicated it. I'm pretty sure no matter what happens, as a straight guy (even with bisexual options), I'll be left with only human characters. And none even a down to earth type of character to boot. This is going to be a serious game, it looks like. I didn't want to play that way. At least not as the years go by. I was hoping to mix it up a bit. I promise you'll get one or two playthroughs out of me though. :)

I will not abide a spy for the Big Bad of the next game giving away the strengths and weaknesses of the only organization- which I am building from the ground up- that can save the world.

Bull needs to prove that his heart lies with the Inquisition. He can't serve two masters. He'll get the boot if he chooses the Qun.

Assuming we even get a moral event horizon scene with him.

How do you guys think a relationship with Iron Bull would be handled if he remains in the Qun, considering their views on it?

I'm not a big fan of make-up in general, but that was particularly unattractive make-up, imo. I mean no offence to anyone who wears make-up like that, of course. I'm just not a fan.

Would be interesting if he accepted it, but then ends it, I don't think we've seen too much of those.  Could be an interesting dilemma, in terms of believing what's best for "them" at the current moment of the timeframe of the game, as in how certain relationships end because it might be "best" for the individual(s) to grow stronger.

I'm thinking... or at least hoping... he'll be like Randy Quaid in Kingpin (the Amish character who went nuts). He'll be a complete mess. Maybe the player can decide what is the prettier mess. Nights of constant vomiting and orgies. Or the Qun.
