"STEEEEVE!" Though, to be fair, even Mark said he wished they hadn't used that take.

Kolyat asking if Shep remembers him. The hell? Nooo, you're only the second drell in the universe I've ever met and your father and I tried to stop you from killing someone six months ago. Nope, don't remember you at all.

Kolyat: Commander Shepard. I don't know if you remember me. You killed Joram Talid, the turian I was holding hostage, with my father.

Shepard: I can't really be sure. I kill so many things it's kind of a blur.

 Time for some ME2 absurdities....

(Shepard chose Udina for councilor)

Miranda: He has done a great job representing humanity's interests.

Jacob: Yeah, but I'm not sure he's done enough for humanity.

Squadmate#2, on the Collectors, observing the Collector Vessel's massive storage-space for lifepods: "They're going to target Earth."

Shepard: "Not if we stop 'em!"

[The Collector fleet amounts to a whopping three vessels. One is blown up by Jimmy Vega. The Normandy eventually tears apart another, even with the standard pew-pew cannon. The third arrives only during the Reaper invasion and is taken down over Palaven. If the Collectors' plan is really to harvest Earth or even a single colony in Alliance space with one cruiser then they should not be pursued, they should be laughed at. One planetary defense-cannon would take them down, if they're not intercepted by an actual fleet. ME2's plot was a fool's errand for reasons such as this.]

Thane: If you kill a man, do you hold your gun responsible?

[If my gun signed a contract and had legs then YES, I would hold it responsible.]

Niket: From a life of wealth and happiness? You weren't saving her, you were getting back at your father!

[We've already established that Mr. Lawson is a bad enough character that Miranda had to be separated from him, but we can't do the same with her little sister unless we're absolutely sure it's what she wants? Criminy cripes.]

(Horizon)

VS: Shepard! We had no idea you're alive.

Shepard (paragon): Hey, man! What's up??

VS: That's all you have to say? It's been two years and you haven't tried to let me know you're alive!

-----

Shepard (paragon): Cerberus is guud!

---

VS: (unmistakably upset) I should report back to the Alliance, let them decide whether they believe your story.

Shepard (paragon): I could use you on my ship again. It'll be just like old times™!

VS: -.- No it won't.

Neutral and even Renegade dialogue was alright here, but Paragon Shepard is utterly embarrassing in this scene.

Samara: There's no excuse for killing an unarmed civilian.

[First of all, Nihlus is a Spectre, so he is legally authorized to do that. Second, the Code allowed you to do the same to an asari on Illium who was completely defenseless. If another Justicar witnessed that and had no context, the Code would compel them to kill you, though you were yourself simply following the Code...

... yeah, I'm taking Morinth. Screw you, madam.]

Legion: Technology is not a straight line. There are many paths towards the same end. Accepting technology blinds you to alternatives.

[This is not strictly logical. Accepting technology may diminish the incentive in creating alternatives, but it does not preclude them. In fact, it may even open the door to other opportunities and make those alternatives easier to come by than they otherwise would be.]

... more to come...

Pitne For says that Eclipse sisters take a life in order to wear that uniform. The asari on Illium she killed was wearing an Eclipse uniform, was in fact a Lieutenant, a decent rank in the hierarchy. All another Justicar would need to see would be that asari in the Eclipse uniform to judge Samara's actions sound. Likewise, that same asari had, prior to Samara biotically throwing her out a window, been holding a gun on her. She was not defenseless throughout that whole encounter, just the last few moments, after having already threatened Samara.

As for Nihlus, this is part of the reason why Justicars rarely leave asari space - to asari, the Justicar code is part of their laws and traditions. If a Justicar is involved, asari are willing to bow to their code and judgment. The Justicar code precedes Citadel laws, were written down before there were Spectres. This is, in fact, part of the reason that Detective Anaya's superiors want Samara out of there, that particular culture clash of the Justicar code, which asari recognize as valid, and the numbers of non-asari who live and operate on Illium who have a reaction of '...wait a sec, what the hell?'

That culture clash is also part of Thane's comment about the gun, since Shepard DOES get to counter with a comment about the gun not having free will. I'm not necessarily agreeing with Thane's statement (I think there's room to interpret several moments in his conversations as him trying to justify some problematic elements of his history, but with his loyalty mission focused on Kolyat and his original writer leaving between 2 and 3, there's no pay off to it), but alien species ARE going to think and operate differently than humans.

Likewise, that same asari had, prior to Samara biotically throwing her out a window, been holding a gun on her. She was not defenseless throughout that whole encounter, just the last few moments, after having already threatened Samara.

None of this is very rational if you ask me. Say there was an asari like what Elnora was pretending to be, joining Eclipse unaware of what they're really like, then having to go through with murder under duress (to save themselves in a no-turning-back scenario), would the Justicars be compelled to kill her? If so, then they are scum. If not, wearing an Eclipse uniform is not evidence enough for an asari to let that go.

Second, what if Samara apprehended this mercenary when she was not in uniform, and this supposed Justicar witnessed only her execution? It would seem like killing a defenseless, unarmed civilian, and the Code would compel another Justicar to kill another Code-abiding Justicar. How does Samara know that Nihlus did not actually kill someone guilty of a crime that the Code itself would punish? All she did was witness the execution (which, again, was legal from the start). Samara also said she wants to know as little as possible about the people she's compelled to kill, lest she feel guilty over it (never mind that her conscience could be telling her something about the work she's doing and how "good" it really is).

With Thane, he says that he just killed out of reflex, so free-will does not apply to what his body does. However, that ignores the moment he signs a contract, which is why I brought that up specifically rather than whatever he did "subconsciously" (for lack of a better word).

The other way around dude I wanted to turn on Garrus at that point.

Reading those terminals would have made most of my Sheps realise he was riding around with a merciless serial killer. He killed people more brutally than Morinth.

He killed people more poetically than Morinth.

Poetic justice is a beautiful thing.

I just finished playing Vermire.   As you know, the Salerian captain came up with the IDEA & PLAN to use the nuke from his ship (not Shep's idea) -- yet the Turian turd council member says to Shep "you detonated a nuke on Vermire, I wouldn't call that discreet".

And DREAMGAZER posted earlier (#9) the same jerk (I think) saying "Ahhh, yes -- reapers".

The council members (in the series) refer to reapers as PLURAL but are insistent that only ONE exists "to help Saren".   For those who are so "wonderful & wise" and whose "actions affect trillions" -- it would seem REASONALBE to me that they would lose nothing by taking some precautions & want to gather more evidence and information than just trashing it.   Kaiden pointed out this council absurdity early in ME1.

One thing that always bugs me about the beginning of ME1 is when Anderson, Shepard and Nihlus are watching the footage of Eden Prime being attacked. Once the feed cuts out, Anderson says 'Reverse and hold at 38.5', which is the exact frame you see Sovereign. How did Anderson know this? I've looked for numbers running along the side that he might have glanced at the second they see the Reaper, but there's nothing :P he's just pulling that number out of his butt - and it works.

The Turian just has a stick up his butt about Shepard and this is an easy way to take a jab at him. Plus, Shepard agreed to carry out the plan and it was his crewmembers that delivered and armed the bomb, so yes, Shepard did detonate it.

Shepard is claiming the existence of Reapers. There's nothing weird about the sarcastic comment being in plural.

And every major city should respond seriously to the dozens or hundreds of bomb threats they get every day, instead of filtering out which ones are worth responding to? There's not enough resources to do that. Besides, who's to say they're not looking into it anyway?

On Horizon: collector bug attacks, everyone freezes and gets taken by the collectors

Ashley/Kaidan also attacked by bugs and is frozen after the encounter

Next thing you see: Ashley/Kaidan who just walks in after you restore the primary defences of the colony

How did she escape the stasis created by the collector bugs?

It's never officially shown, but I figure the stasis disappeared when the collector ship took off.

Heh. It's also possible, but a bit more of a stretch, that the stasis just wears off after awhile. But, if it did wear off that quickly the collectors might not have time to harvest an entire colony.

Another possibility is: plot hole, but no one would believe that.

Also, you can just put it down to 'space magic'.  :D

Remember OPM_Lunacy, that SporkFu is our resident EXPERT on collector swarms.   I fell out of my chair when he said (earlier post):

Lies of omission during the Geth Propaganda Mission: "The creators have been at war with us for 291 years." Implying that the geth were at peace with the Quarians and would let them return. Yet would not let them return. Poor Geth victims. Goddess I hate that mission. If it didn't cost quarian war assets I'd skip it.

I'd couldn't see why the problem with the geth servers couldn't be solved with a few well placed explosives.

Fortunately I get a good line from Shepard on the Normandy prior to it when the VI discusses the reaper code and uploading it.... I think it is "If you don't like it the airlock is that way."

Didn't Legion say that the geth minds controlling the platforms flying the ships would just upload to another server? They had to wipe out the minds behind the platforms.

Absurd behavior—

Previous observations of Shep & squad by others:

  • I won't look a heavily-armed gift horse in the mouth.
  • Hey lady, you don’t have a grenade launcher.
  • When it comes to armor & weapons – looks like you’ve got that.
  • Glad they send us someone who looks like they can fight.

--but then--

ME2: Shep gets a drink at the Omega bar where he is poisoned by the bartender.  Did he not see Shep’s two squad mates that could rip him to shreds?

Complete destruction of the servers will ensure there's nothing left to transmit.

Took me awhile to find this. From first conversation with Legion following the geth dreadnought mission:

shep: So we destroy the server?

Legion: No. Geth programs would transfer to alternate servers. They are only vulnerable through direct interface. Removing geth from this server will prevent significant creator death.

Unless they can destroy the server complex in one shot, and there is no guarantee they could do that, the transfer to another server would probably happen too quickly to prevent. So they had to go in and pull the plug.

In Legion's loyalty mission he "collapses antimatter magnetic bottling mechanisms" to destroy the station. No idea how that would stop geth from backing themselves up

Absurd behavior ---

At this moment I'm playing ME2 (getting Jack from the Purgatory prison).   Let's see if I got the facts straight here ---

The most advanced battle frigate in the galaxy, with cannons, missiles, and bombs just docks with the Purgatory -- and the prison warden wants to capture the commander of that vessel?   Does he think the SR2 is just going to just SIT there indefinitely until Shep gets sold?    Negotiate release?

Sawdust for brains....

"No matter what kind of technology we might find, it's not worth it."

"We'll fight and win without it. I will not let fear compromise who I am."

"I'll find a way to win(?), and I won't sacrifice the soul of our species to do it."
