This may seem like a silly thing to be worried about but I'm sure everyone's mentioned just about everything else. I noticed in the E3 demo video that was released the other day that there doesn't seem to be different kinds of coin available in game and it's all been replaced by "gold".
I don't know about anyone else but the fact that Dragon Age had something approaching an actual sensible currency was one of the first things that drew me into the game. Is anyone else concerned about this?
Wasn't the currency just gold, silver and copper pieces? Albeit they had names, like sovereigns, but still... I'm not sure it is a complete departure.
^^ It was but the fact that they had different levels of currency not just "gold" made it seem like so much more of a real world. I know it probably seems silly but the first time I looted 1 silver and 4 copper pieces (or whatever) I started falling in love with the game, I'd never seen that happen in a game before and it just made so much sense.
I'm actually slightly more disappointed about losing that than only have two slots for armour in DA:I (I played the Dragon's Dogma expansion recently and it's armour system (head, hands, feet, body under and overgarment, leg under and overgarment) has kind of ruined me on other armour systems ... or re-ruined me I guess).
Having a gold coin as the smallest unit is likely to lead to some oddities. At the least, it would make it more likely that you have a ludicrous amount of money at the end.
Maybe they'll treat a tankard of beer and other minor purchases as not really worth tracking. The bronze coins at least never really mattered, so you could leave them in the lore but not bother the player with them.

This seems like a huge step backwards, if it's true. However, It's also utterly unnecessary, so why should it be true?
I mean, it makes no sense whatsoever, ...unless they only do it to snub someone for purely personal reasons.

I like me my sovereigns. Makes me feel rich when I have 800 of those.

As much as I like the whole, 1 sovereign is 100 silver and 1 silver is 100 copper system, I wouldn't mind a more streamlined "10,000" gold in my inventory. I kinda grew up with systems like that in classic RPG's so it doesn't bother me that much.
So Thedas is that advanced in chemistry and physics?

world or Warcraft did gold, silver, copper way before DA. Not that I mind. I actually like this system better then what most games have.
My first MMO was SWTOR so I wouldn't know. 
You know what else did currencies of different materials before WoW? Real life. 
Although having played a few since then DA:O does seem somewhat MMOish. (The way you have tanks aggro and all that and moving my clicking left and right mouse buttons at the same time which I've only ever seen in MMOs)
I went and checked that video. It does just say 21 gold... and the inventory says 45 with a gold thing. Its kind of a bummer if they did get rid of it....
I'm not concerned, at the end of the day it doesn't matter to me. It'll make me a little sad they got rid of it, then again it always annoyed me that late game we'd get a chest or quest reward that was like 10 coppers..it was like gee thanks

Hope they will change it, I mean I liked the thing they had with gold, silver and coppers.
I've been calling for a move away from decimal currency ever since they stopped setting games in the Forgotten Realms. The lack of a decimal currency is partly why I always preferred Greyhawk among the classic D&D settings.
