Seems a bit extreme not to let people compare Witcher series to Bioware games don't you think?  That's the reason I registered on this forum.  I've always been a huge witcher fan and was hoping to ask some questions in regards to dragon age.

That should be obvious from scenes like these or Dethmold breaking the gates of Vergen.

Should it? Dethmold did what a battering ram could do. And all that mage accomplished was to give Demavend a few more minutes of life. The assassin was a Witcher but it's undeniable the mage failed in his task.

Also the Conclave was a pretext, as Aryan La Valette says in that video posted above. The real aim of Loc Muinne was to decide the new balance of power after the kingslayings.

Indeed, I'm just wondering why would anyone bother to ask for the opinions of the sorcerers.

Did 22 mages hold off a hundred thousand Nilfgaardian troops?
Because, if there were 22 mages amidst dozens of thousands of Northern soldiers, the entry doesn't really explain what their role in the battle was.

No, they were there in support of a large Northern army. The hundred thousand troops mentioned includes both Nilfgaardian and Northern troops. The battle is just associated with the mages because of their high casualties during the battle. 14 of 22 of them that participated were thought to have been killed. Triss and Yennefer however were both badly wounded (Triss was burned and Yennefer blinded) and mistakenly reported as dead, so the actual number was 12.

I'd guess that their role was as support, probably casting spells from somewhere behind the first ranks.

One of the cinematic trailers for The Witcher 3 shows Yennefer in the middle of a battle with the Nilfgaardians (I'm guessing a Northern defeat):

A mage also wrecked Demavend's boat- that ice trick was Sile's- and Vergen's gates aren't just any gates.

In a world with magic, if your enemy can teleport or break magical seals or see what the enemy is doing and you can't- you're probably going to lose. Sorcerers are also long-lived and well educated. Just like witchers, they pay a heavy price to do what ordinary people can't. That's why they're both valued and feared.

What am I supposed to be seeing? They even say that Geralt has "crazy, movie-like" movements. Unless you're saying that someone connecting a blow, sinking into flesh or armor, then pulling out and swinging again, should have the same movement speed and airiness as someone just fighting air.

Yes it's a deliberate choice to have a sword-dancing Geralt, but this has nothing to do with something like anime. All his movements are motion captured and entirely possible, albeit perhaps slighty sped up ingame.

I think that by that quote they were referring to things like this:

There are more animations that unlock in higher levels. The recent Twitch stream showed some nifty ones when the demonstrator focused on swordsmanship skills.

BTW, regarding Sodden Hill - the mages were focused on Nilfgardian mages. It was more or less an impass. It was mages vs mages fight, whichever side would have won it could wreck havoc among regular army... so, the mages had a battle of their own.

I think it looks kind of ridiculous, but to each her own.

I don't know why the fast swinging is considered a positive. I prefer a more realistic look to the fighting. But eh, I don't play for combat anyway.

eh? sword fighting historically was always fast. What is with people who think swords were slow is something i never understand.

Oh well :) I'm looking forward to his different battle animations. I feel they managed to really portray a witcher this time around, in speed as well as grace, while still giving you a lot of control and making combat a challenge - it seems so, anyway, in the Twitch stream.

So it's probably swordsmanship for my first playthrough. Then a voodoo, grenade crazy alchemy psycho shaman, and then Signs.

It's usually how it is being documented on TV. Western swords are nothing but glorified metallic bludgeon which you bash guys in big plate armours. These armours are so heavy that you can't move in them of course.

I'd go for the 970, near identical performance even with a mild overclock. With the 980 you're basically paying twice the amount of money for a 15-20% increase in performance.

I will admit soon as I saw Ciri in that trailer. All of the sudden Ubisoft,WB and EA came to mind.

"Pre-Order now to play as Ciri."

That does sound like something they would do. I do not  wan to derail topic with that.

Back on topic. That was a very good trailer. I am liking the way some of these monsters are looking.

It would be very, very late in the game to say that you have to preorder to get Ciri. I think you can put your worries to rest.

... The guys in the video even said they were movie moves, not realistic. So, yeah. I think we beat this topic to death.

I think you completely miss my point. No where was I worry about needing to pre-order in order to play as Ciri. Basically what I said it is something those companies would do in order to drive up pre-order sales. For example Mortal Kombat X locked out Goro who was already a complete character on disc. You could only unlock him for free if you pre-order otherwise you have to pay $5 for a character who is already on disc.
