So I just played the role of Marriage Counsellor to a couple of Troll's. Even though the Lady Troll is a bit angry at the Male one for paying more attention to a certain Redhead, they're back together.

First time on Iorveth's path, and those 2 troll's have made the game for me. Worth every moment.

I'm also about to start doing the Harpy Contract. Pray for my soul, I hope it's not TOO frustrating.

... The guys in the video even said they were movie moves, not realistic. So, yeah. I think we beat this topic to death.

you do realize all the sword moves in witcher are mocaped by a sword master right? All he did was make them more showy but that speed is what sword fights actually happen at.

I can't believe it is almost here. Good thing I got Witcher 2 and little bit of DAI to keep me busy until then.

If you don´t know the end of the quest, it is worth it. I got most of the feathers from the harpies that attacked the hermit in Roche´s path, I guess in Iorveth´s you can around the nests.

Games don't tend to show how fast actual combat with blades really is.

Games tend to have greatswords be these big and slow swinging swords that take time to use when in reality, they could be wielded quite quickly by someone who knows how to use them.

So bonus points for Geralt.

And bonus points for CDPR for being more "then" than "now"-

I'm surprised at how well it went to be honest. I think my surprisement is due because I was watching a Lper play Witcher 2 at launch, where a godly amount of bugs were present that are probably not here today. I put them down one at a time, and before I knew it the Old Quarry was done.

Also failed at haggling the hermit for more Orens for my feathers :(

Doing the Succubus quest, made Dandelion go into the lair rather then back to Geralt, and his reaction was priceless.

"The flipping* idiot actually went in!"

I mean, I love CDPR, but I'm not sure their selling an expansion pass really makes them more "then" than now.

Their expansions are more along the lines of how games used to be;add-ons that were made after game launch and released later to add to an already complete game.

Nowadays you have nickel and dime strategies with piecemeal DLCs and parts of games that feel excluded from launch just to be sold later. It sucks.

But CDPR are gamers that make the games they'd want to play if they were made by other devs with their mindset, they just have the tools to do it themselves and love doing it. Are they perfect? Hell no. But they're a breath of fresh air in a world where gaming seems to become more and more corporate as time goes on.

The last DLC I bought was the Dragonborn expansion for Skyrim. I am looking forward to finally having another DLC that's actually an expansion and throwing my money at it. Way back when I started Xbox Live on the 360 I was enamored with DLC, but then it started to stray from what it was and the potential I saw for it and has become nothing more than cash grabs. I miss them being meaty with lots to do and it's no coincidence that I am a repeat customer for Bethesda (they're the only company I know that still does DLC right).

You have a point, perhaps, but isn't a little early to be judging the quality of these expansions when we don't even have the vanilla game yet?

No one's judging the quality of these DLCs. If anything's being judged its the practice of DLC delivery. Approved because meatier post-launch expansions>the little bits and pieces devs create in hours and release for high prices.

What I'm saying is(using the image above), no one's judging how good the fries and soda are;but we're happy that we're getting the fries and soda as opposed to the burger being split up into individual bits.

An odd thing happened.

As a lot of people know I really did not like the Original Witcher, it just failed to connect on so many levels from quests to combat to the characters.  I have also been negative about the Witcher 2 but when looking back I realized I couldn't think why I was negative about the sequel as all the moments that came to mind are from the original game.

Then I realized why: I started the second game right after the first and I was still upset with the first game that I was projecting that onto the second which caused me to just stop playing it.  Understanding this I felt I should go back and give The Witcher 2 a fair chance so I downloaded it and decided to play with no importing that way I can be completely removed from the first game.

After playing for a few hours I can honestly say I am quite impressed, the sequel fixed a lot of things I didn't like about the first game.

Combat feels much more fluid with the weapons having a good weight to them as well as giving good combinations as well as openings you can exploit.

The voice acting has improved as Geralt's VA does sound much better than how he did in the original game.

Inventory is much better (Still a bit of a jumble but it does a much better job at providing more details about items.

Haven't gotten far enough to explore the character skills though so I'm not really sure how the builds will be.

Plus the story so far is quite engaging and is really drawing me in.

As I said still don't like the first game but the second they really did a good job and I'm glad I went back to give this game a fair chance.

Right now I'm in the dungeons in the escape attempt (just defeated the executioner and got a scythe) wil play more tomorrow.

Once again, i'll point out that the combat designers say that it's deliberately over the top. So take it up with them. And in that mocap, he's fighting air. So- point, moot.

Witcher 2 is selling for 2.99 on Steam currently.

Just keep in mind the dungeons are a breeze compared to everything in Flotsam.

I'm still not convinced this is that out of industry norms. Sure, you got the Ubisofts and Activisions of this world wh sell you map packs for 15$, but off the top of my head I can name several games (Skyrim, Borderlands 1 and 2, Shadow of Mordor, Blizzard titles in general, Fallout New Vegas, TW Shogun 2, Dishonored) released in the last few years that either had expansion-sized addons or just really great DLCs, and could possibly double that list if I bothered to look I'd wager.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice that CDPR does meaty add-ons, but as I see it people are praising it as the golden exception, the one light in the modern gaming darkness when it's, well, not. Same thing for free DLCs, hell even EA greenlighted a few ones for Bioware recently. It's not that uncommon, CDPR are just good at building their PR around that sort of thing, which I hardly fault them for given that the best PR is the one that actually gives more to the customer.

Anyway, I finally pre-ordered the game today after (at last!) being able to authenticate my copies of TW 1 and 2 on GOG and getting the sweet discount. May 19th can't come soon enough. Think I'll finish my 2nd TW2 playthrough in the meantime, if I'm not playing Pillars of Eternity.

Bioware's free DLCs are MP only, and those are only free because they can make money off of paid SP DLCs. And before Inquisition, we had day one DLCs with all sorts of preorder bonuses and CE-only items, the very kind that fits into that "now" category.

Are CDPR the only ones? Nope. But we're still gonna praise the ever living hell out of them for not pushing us for every dollar/pound/currency of choice they can.

Don't forget they can nickle and dime you for the "free" DLCs. They're more of a microtransaction incentive. At least they were with ME3. I've never really looked into the way the DAI system works. If they have those dice roll chests that you can pay real money for then you bet your ass they're free because of the microtransactions.

Microtransactions are just ****** insidious. They play on so many levels of your psycology. Even more so when you consider half the time they're targeting kids and young teens.

EC and the Black Emporium are free, however. And the Cerberus Network added sizable amounts of content for free, albeit only to new copies. So that's not really true. Plus, I just used Bioware because people like to compare between the two developpers on all fronts. CDPR are more consumer friendly, that's undeniable, but the divide isn't that sharp I find.

Zaeed and Shale were great, if short free DLCs. But they were from pre-order. I still contend the EE is among the more generous of free DLCs from a dev, especially given how they tacked on 3 hours or so on the ending and Arena which I spent dozens of hours with. BTW, guys, go and petition for an Arena mode for TW3. I got my new monster PC DL updates....for f*cking ever. This is torture. I want to squeeze another TW2 run in if I can.
