To be fair, Geralt's profession is basically a series of never ending fetch quests.

"Go to location x, kill monster y, collect body part z as proof of kill then come back for money."

Well, a fetch quest can be every single quest in any RPG, but I've never understood the complaining about it anyways.

It depends who do them.

Bioware? Get trashed to kingdom come

CDPR? They are a nothing short of miraculous .

Exactly so saying that there will be no fetch quest is plainly false because "hunt" quest are confirmed and what scheme do you think they will follow?

Boring content is boring content. People just latch onto "fetch quest" because it's an easy way to describe busywork and filler content that don't really add anything to a game.

But the idea of eliminating fetch quests altogether is just about impossible in an RPG. Which is why CDPR's original "there are no fetch quests in W3" claim was dumb. What matters is how the structure or writing of a fetch quest is used to make them compelling. New Vegas is a good example. The majority of the game is fetch quests, but little of it feels like filler.

A quest like Return to Sender is a very drawn out (reverse) fetch quest that doesn't attempt to be anything else. However, in retrospect, you never felt like you wasted your time or that it was just busy work. The payoff was very very good. Prime example of a fetch quest done right.

There are fetch quests, and there are fetch quests.

If you make the process interesting enough, through investigation, witcher senses, etc. even a humble fetch quest can feel more interesting.

And to hunt an illusive and actually dangerous monster, sounds more interesting to me than fetch 10 elfroots and 10 pieces of lamb meat.

Besides, fetch quests or not, graphical downgrade or not, TW3 looks like it's going to be the best Fantasy / RPG game of the last few years.

And if it will allow modding, it will probably remain so for a while.

How about debating this tripe we actually wait until May 19th and discover the nature of 'fetch quests' in TW3 ourselves.

99% freaking quests ever usually amount to go there, kill somebody/find something/one, come back for the reward. But there´s a world between bringing 10 pieces of ram meat and being told a small story.

Because factual truth will not even been taken in account.

Whatever will be the actual nature of filler quest in witcher 3 the BSN will surge for umpteenth time against Bioware because someone else did the allegedly right thing while they didn't.

Fetch quests only bothered me in DAI the first time I played it because naturally you don't know what is important and what isn't your first go around. My second playthrough I just avoided the requisitions and shards and that instantly sped up the pacing a great deal. My other problem with DAI pacing wise my first playthrough was how exploring felt like a crawl at times, that's something that I worry about TW3 being so focused on how massive it is (I enjoyed the tighter zones of TW2). For the most part the only open world games I feel get exploration pacing right are ones with cars in them like GTA or Far Cry, even Fallout bored me at times.

If there are boring fetch quests in TW3 I won't be annoyed specifically because of that (it's completely understandable for an RPG to have them) but I will be annoyed about the fact CDPR specificly said that there wouldn't. Same with the downgrade. I don't really mind about the graphics being of lower quality, I do mind that at the start of the VGX trailer it said "in game footage" and proceeded to show footage which was not in fact in game.

Of course this is nothing new. Companies have been doing this for years, I just wish people would stop calling CDPR as some flawless company which is morally upstanding in every way. They are a company like any other, and like other companies, they will mess up in the marketing department somewhat.

I think you'll find that hunting 10 ram to feed the refugees is in fact a small story.

One person's fetch quest is another person's small story and vice versa...

They got trashed because they went with quantity over quality. I dislike Dragon Age 2 and it handled side and fetch quests better than Inquisition.

The reason why CDPR is getting praised is because they managed to avoid what Inquistion and Skyrim did with side activites, especially since it's an open world game.

Also i would suggest to tone down this TW3 vs DA or CDPR vs Bioware crap because the last Witcher thread got locked down for the exact same reason.

DA:I won over 100+ Goty awards. GG, let´s move on.

Agreed. If they had simply shown the game as it was right now then this whole downgrade disaster probably wouldn't have happend. I hope they learn from it and won't make the same mistake with Cyberpunk.

On  a more positive note, its apperantly possible to bring those VGX effects back with the mod tool - if we are to believe CDPR. So hopefully modders will do some magic with that.

It matter because last time this happened bioware reacted giving the player every single whimsical request they made and as inquisition shown people ask thing without considering what the final result will be just like the game controller for PC that lead to the control scheme diatribe for PC player.

...or maybe TW3 might actually turn out to be a better game than DA:I. It certainly looks better, at the very least. I watched someone streaming part of a playthrough on Twitch a few days ago, and I did not see any boring side quests in the bit that I saw. All the conversations with NPCs were also cinematic. Part of what made DA:I disappointing for me was the lack of cinematic conversations with NPCs compared to previous games. I found that made it less immersive than previous chapters.

In any case, other than a few people in places where stores ignored the street date..we won't know how it compares to DA:I for sure until May 19th.

If Bioware screws up the controls for PC it can´t be possibly their fault?

Anyway, has anyone received their physical copy and pre-order comic yet?

How can it be their fault when people demanded this for years?

It's like agreeing with a petulant child that throw a tantrum when that ice cream that asked turned out different on how it expected.

So? If I ask you to built a ladder for my treehouse, is it my fault that the braces are loose?

Yes if you are stupid enough to ask for a ladder that change how you can access to your tree house.

And "people" are that stupid asking and expecting that nothing chage.

If the ladder you built doesn´t serve the function to get me where I want, you´re just not built to built ladders.

Then Bioware should up their game and it won't happen. :P

Seriously though, I don't like the comparison threads either. As to how the quest quality is, let's play it first to see. I'm sure there's going to be some content that falls squarely in the Fed Ex zone, but most reviewers are actually praising the quest design for its richness and variety.

BTW has anyone seen the bear armour in-game? It was some pretty cool concept art I saw and I'm hoping it's been kept.
