The Sidequests that are sidequests are very well designed, no doubt about that, but the open world aspect is not worth the time it took to design it. This is based on 15 hours of gaming btw, not 200. We'll see when i reach the end of the game. Heading back into a long session now and we'll see what changes.

Bioware is their direct competitor as they also make story driven games. Unlike Bethesda.

Its irrelevant. TW3 was announced in Feb 2013, and they likely starter working on it since 2011. Bioware start talking About larger areas around 2012. I don't Why the reason for their pick of the open world was Bioware's (Since this would assume that they decided to change their plana during development), When Skyrim's success seems the obvious reason to me.

I disagree.
I think TW3 being open world is more related to Skyrim's success then Bioware going open world.

+1. I can't see BioWare's direction in the Dragon Age series influencing CDPR really - given the noises in the respective fanbases/communities. Certainly not as much as Bethesda/TES even if not everyone loves those.

Skyrim's success, absolutely. Skyrim was fundamental in changing gaming by pushing people to make more open-world games(or games with open elements).

Bioware was influenced by this and that is why Inquisition was open(but not open world). Same with The Witcher 3. All goes back to Skyrim.

TW3s world has better atmosphere in a little shithole village then Skyrim had anywhere.

Potato face Triss doesn't stand a chance to Yennefer.

The open world sucks, but CDPR was kind of forced to do one considering BioWare did.

Triss has a much more pleasant personality than Yennefer, IMO. Yennefer behaves like a b***h most of the times. Only her kinkiness makes up for her b***hy behavior.

From my readings and observation, Yennefer is like Morrigan with the b***hiness factor dialed up to 11, whereas Triss is like a lot like Tali. Morrigan vs Tali is a tough battle but I would pick Tali in the end. Especially a red headed one.

Its not a competition;just clarifying that Skyrim was the game with the grandfather effect of getting devs and pubs to create more open games. Inquisition lends itself to no such claim as its still far too recently released and it was itself created with Skyrim in mind.

I don't remember Tali hiding key memories so she could sleep with the protag.....

Hey I'm just saying, the world in TW3 has a far better atmosphere then Skyrim and is thus more fun to explore for me.

I just find Triss very adorable. I have read the books and know how Yen is Geralt's true love...but screw it, that readhead is lovely...

Anyone else find it odd that Shani was not at Oxenfurt, unless she is already out in the field with the army.

I was gonna say Triss is nothing like Tali. Both are quite distinct from one another.

It's all the same, really.

I've heard the same peasant conversations 50 times already.

Yeah, no. Skyrim's atmosphere may be abit more bland than Oblivion and Morrowind, but Skyrim is supposed to be the harsh Northern kingdom which brings a bit more realism in its setting. Plus an open world game like Skyrim lets you actually enter all the buildings you want and don't make invisble walls everywhere. If there is a mountain you can scale it, even Throat of the World, its hard, but you can.

But they are different rpg's, i feel like the world isn't alive enough to jusiify the open world choice in The Witcher 3. The sidequests that feel natural are very good and the main story is excellent so far, but there was never any reason to go this big scale. The second game did everything this game does, but on smaller areas and it felt better. Atleast for my part.

I knew I was going to enjoy Witcher 3 when at the beginning I was able to jump off the balcony to my death in the training yard below; no invisible wall stopped me.

There was a video a year or three ago showing CDPR commenting on Skyrim, what they liked and what they would improve. One comment I recall was that the world, though open, was a bit cramped so that you could run to any "city" within a few minutes. They wanted to make a bigger, more epic feeling world.

My stepbrother got his CE in the mail today but he's off at work right now so I'm holding onto it for him till he gets back. Will remained unopened since I try not to be a douche canoe.

Speaking of, box is definitely hefty. Some weight in there. Gonna be cool to see the medallion, statue, and other stuff when he opens it later today.

I'm loving Gwent! I lost to the guy in the Vizima Castle twice before I finally beat him.

First Gwent match with him I did encounter an error on PS4 that crashed it back to the PS home screen. Didn't have an issue after that. Loading screens take a while too.

Ciri's first mission threw me off. I was so used to playing as Geralt that I kept trying to do stuff I couldn't with her. That said I prefer her dodge ability over his at the moment.

Ciri's evade is amazing. Basically fade step.

On that note, I just discovered double tapping the directional keys makes Geralt dodge on the default keybinds that I'm too lazy to change. That's nice, because left alt is not a comfortable key for it...

So I'm thinking of upgrading my proccesor and graphics cards so I can actually play modern games on my Pc. Here are the things I'm planning on getting:

Geforce GTX960 (comes with a free edition of TW3)

http://www.ebuyer.co...rd-zt-90305-10p

Intel I5 3.5ghz

http://www.ebuyer.co...d-bx80646i54690

Can anybody with similar specs, who's got the game tell me how well these components would be able to run TW3?

Started to encounter some amusing bugs. Jumped of my horse and suddenly started swimming in the air with no water to be seen at all. Also had my first crash today but luckily it happened right after I had saved so nothing lost this time.

So gotten a couple of hours put into the game and so far I am pleased with it.

While there are a plethora of aspects that I am interested in exploring with this game, a major factor that I am keeping a sharp eye on is CDPR continuous portrayal on war, and how well they manages to deliver on said aspect. While naturally I'm not in a position to judge it as a whole yet, I am however glad that the team has managed to incorporate some fundamental causes already from the get go.

In so far, CDPR has managed to utilize several causes and aspects that I find vital to make a raving warfront as realistic as possible. Wars after all are (for the most part) complex conflicts which features several factors that take stage during the incident, with different individuals, parties, factions, and so forth taking part in different events, be it either directly or indirectly. I've had the pleasure of seeing scholars seeking gains to increase their academic works and improve their social standing, merchants complaining about problems in selling their stores due to the war and others wishing for the war to go on so they can further their profit, peddlers struggling with the roads but finding companionship during the hard times that the war as brought forward, Nilfgaardian's struggling with their linguistic abilities, agricultural change and what consequences they bring, as well as subjugation, retaliation, domestic unpopularity and more.

Aspects like these is something that brings a political and history enthusiast like me great joy, and I'm so looking forward to experiencing further aspects like these and how they eventually end up playing on the political stage!

DAI wishes it was as good as TW when it comes to creating a well executed war front. :D

*snip*

I especially liked how there was a random farmer on the sidewalk who complained about the social unrest that the war has brought upon, and how he listed things that it will effect in the long run. CD Projekt has an eye for detail that builds up to a larger whole for sure.

Looking forward to hear further impressions you have on certain things the games delve into!
