The Eternal Fire has to be the worst religion in the history of religions. A true hive of scum and villainy.

Yeah, it's one of the few dents in The Witcher's ''grey morality'' armor. Religion in general is portrayed as superstition at best, worshipping of stuff like the Ladies of the Wood at midpoint, and at worst the Eternal Fire who are a bunch of zealous, pyre-happy arseholes when they aren't just venal and corrupt. I understand that religions abusing their influence is part and parcel of medieval life, but there also were achievements of learning, art, architecture and charity made during this time, none of which is present in the Eternal Fire. They're just evil.

And in general, I find that the North gets smacked really hard in this game (so far) in comparison to Nilfgaard. Sure, the imperials are an expansionist bunch, but it's not like the northern kings don't do the exact same thing given the chance (see Radovid). Nilfgaard has shown to have a few relatiely reasonable and polite leaders, while Northern ones encourage witch hunts and pogroms as a national pastime. Maybe this perception will go away in time, but so far I see very little reasons to root for the North here, or even Novigrad given how much of a dunghole it seems the city is.

Also reached Novigrad, and by jove the Gwent players here play for keeps. They all seem to have the best cards in their respective factions, including those 10 strength Hero cards that ruin your day pronto, or Monsters deck who have Muster creatures that fill up their board so much you are totally screwed if you didn't draw Biting Frost.

In unrelated news, Triss is hot and her voice actress is much better than in TW2. I might just decide that Geralt falls for her instead of Morrigan Yennefer.

A great piece by Danny O' Dwyer of Gamespot on how choice in games has evolved over the years:

Do you guys have the slow-mo effect during finishers? I remember seeing video how the finishers were fully cinematic and in slow motion, but mine happen from normal third person in real time.

I have the automatic finishers on.

Slow motion finishers do happen for me and I have auto finishers on. Usually its at the end of a fight/encounter.

What make no sense for me in Witcher.. It's all these monster cohabiting with common folk. You're in that small village and 20 meter away there's drowner , siren and big ass monster roaming  everywhere. You're like geez . Monster are more common than commoner.

Well it kinda makes sense, considering the conflict at hand and how the people point out that the increase in body toll due to war has brought forward an increase in the local wildlife.

Yep, I kept thinking: how are these people surviving so far with all the drowners nearby? And all these flesh-eating ghouls jumping around everywhere? They must be secret ninjas who pretend they need the help of the witcher out of politeness.

Is there any way to store your items outside of your inventory? I've just found the schematics and crafted the Griffin School Witcher gear, and since they're upgradeable, I'd like to keep them around, perhaps for the entire game for all I know. But I'd also like to try some different armors as I come across them, and it seems a bit unpractical to have several sets of armor in your inventory since there's a limit to how much you can carry.

If there's no storage, is there some way to greatly increase the weight that Geralt can haul around? I've thus far just found the Temerian saddlebags from the merchant in White Orchard.

Nope, no storage box which is a shame.  You can buy Zerrikanian Saddlebags in Novigrad that increase your carrying capacity by 100 though.

Yeah, TW3 just like TW2 has set the standard for me with what I will expect from future CRPGs and open world games. I don't think I can play an open world with shitty writing again now, there's no excuse since tW3 showed you can do both.

That happened to me in The Witcher 2, with the Dun Banner quest. The jump back in game hours to get to a point where it could be completed was brutal.

So, regardless of choices in The Witcher 2, Henselt is always dead by the beginning of the game?
I ask because I did kill him, the game acknowledges he is dead but since that is not an actual option, I can only assume Radovid actually manages to defeat Kaedwen, kill their king, annex it and still have enough strenght to challenge Nilfgaard.

Down with Radovid, the killer of kings. At the day of your death, we'll drink and we'll sing.

I've been most impressed with some of the environmental storytelling so far. It's almost at Bethesda level. Like finding a note on a boy's corpse, sent away by his mother for his own safety but killed by drowners.

Eh, him killing a king is not why my Geralt is against him. My Geralt has alot of good reasons why he can't let Radovid, the mad king do what he wants anymore.

The entire North is pretty much a shithole compared to Nilfgaard.

That said, I'd love a Zerrikania spinoff.

Finally met Letho which--just like everyone else here--took me by completely surprise! Kicking down dudes left and right and simultaneously doing the Igni sign agains a group of foes made me squee like hell. Just awesome!

I'm digging the echonomy in the game, with the use of currency and how they keep the level of money rather low (well at least on my case so far). I even started ranting to myself to a villager who only offered to give 20 gold coins to kill a monster. I went basically all like "dude!! Do yo know what that entails!? Proper equipment, herbs for potions and oils, potential bombs, and that is not counting the quest itself, and all this for lousy 20 gold coins!?"

I share Geralt's pain more than ever.

I had money problems until I reached Novigrad and now I got more money than I can spend but that still doesn't stop me from haggling to the limit. Each and every coin shall be mine

Yup. And I laugh at some of the security measures suggested by some people- bar your doors at night and don't come out. Uh, some of those beasties are the size of a horse (if not bigger) and can kill a heavily armed and armored Witcher in a single strike. The hell's your rickety wooden door's going to do to stop it?

Then again, that's the suspension of disbelief that's common in fantasy settings. With how many ridiculously dangerous monsters that can only be killed by protagonists exist in the world, it's always a wonder that isolated villages can even exist or are desirable in any way. It's just worse in The Witcher universe, since many of them can only be effectively harmed with silver blades (why are those exclusive to Witchers anyway?). To say nothing of how you seemingly can't flip the bird to someone without somehow casting a powerful curse of eternal doom on the entire village or something along those lines.

Then again, the game also has Geralt of Rivia, master Witcher that has almost a hundred years of experience killig every single monster under the sun up to and including a dragon, start with the crappiest gear on the continent and run away like a little girl from a couple of drowners if they're too high level.
