Ciri's walking animation is sexy, but how can she fight in high heels?

 

The heels are not like the high heels in female shoes you see today. They are part of boots. If I have to guess, Ciri wears a hybrid of riding boots and fashion piece. 

 

If you must know, high heels was actually used by men in ancient times, especially for horse riding and to make things like being a butcher a lot easier. This makes sense, since the heel gives the rider extra grip on the saddle and allows a butcher to navigate the filthy bloody muck that is his shop without having his boots stuck with too much grime.

 

However, from 16th century onwards, aristocrats and women started using high heels as a symbol of status and of sexuality. Leave it to women and rich people to turn something with a practical application into a vanity device. Lol. 

 

As for fighting in high heels, it has been done. It is not easy but you can do it with training and Ciri got her training from one of the best Witcher, Geralt.

It seems I'm locked out of the Gangs of Novigrad quest though, which is a bit of a bummer. It's still in my log and it's telling me to go talk to the dude but when I click on him, I have no dialogue options to agree with his proposal. The game just automatically picks "no". I think it's because I've progressed too far in the other branch of the questline.

Running after her in the Labyrinth was probably my favourite part. Well, following the kiss at least. It was just a nice change of pace after we burned the Witch Hunter Base to the ground, lol.

 

The game in general has a great variety in its quests. They're constructed in really intelligent ways.

Without getting into spoilers (I'm still pretty early in the game in Velen) can someone say - Y/N - if the way I deal with Kiera Metz will have consequences/reactivity when it comes to Geralt's relationship with Yenn/Triss?

So the impressions I'm getting is that W3 is essentially a next-gen Gothic game with really good writing and cinematics.

Damn. That sounds appealing.

No, see, TW3 is actually fun and the combat - for all its faults - isn't the equivalent of having fire ants slowly devour your eyes.

No consequenses as far as i could tell. I think Triss had a snide remark, nothing more. Anyway new playthrough for me, none other than Triss this time. After that i need to move away from my computer, far away.

I confess I like Novigrad less than Velen so far. The main storyline gets a bit bogged down in side content I don't really care about, the side-quests are comparatively few and far between, the Witcher contracts/treasure hunts almost nonexistent, the enemies are almost all boring old humans, and there's no real exploration. None of the characters so far made me tick like the Bloody Baron or Keira so far either.

Feel free to plough Kira all you want. The only time you get in trouble is if Geralt professes his love to both Yenn and Triss during their personal quests.

This game has been a serious treat for a book reader. Feels like a true sequel to them in a way. 

I have to ask.  Are you playing on PC?  Because I have yet to figure out how to take screen shots unless I run shadowplay, and I didn't really wanna do that.  I don't see a ss option on galaxy either

I confess I like Novigrad less than Velen so far. The main storyline gets a bit bogged down in side content I don't really care about, the side-quests are comparatively few and far between, the Witcher contracts/treasure hunts almost nonexistent, the enemies are almost all boring old humans, and there's no real exploration. None of the characters so far made me tick like the Bloody Baron or Keira so far either.

Yeah, out of Valen, Novigrad and Isles during the first half of the game, Novigrad is the weakest in writing quality.

 

Isles was my fav, but then again. I'm a bit bias with Yen

The thing with Novigrad is that it has its idiosyncrasies because of its nature. Velen and Skellige are relatively big spaces so the quests can be spaced out properly. By contrast, Novigrad is bustling city that is not as big as Velen or Skellige which means it is tightly packed with quests. 

 

Its like this. Imagine Velen as Yellowstone Park, Skellige and Hawaii and Novigrad as New York City. It is by no means a perfect comparison but that is the reality of living in a developed city. People live in tightly packed spaces and in RPG games this can cause questing in a large city to be overcrowded. 

 

I got through Novigrad by taking things slowly and not picking up every single quest there. I usually had 3 or 4 quests that I would finish first before picking up others.

That's because the attitude towards religion is taken straight from Sapkowski's books, and Sapkowski was not referring to the role of religion in Europe in general, but Poland specifically and not in middle ages but 1990's.

Most of the players don't know nor care about the books. Even if they knew them, the books lose a lot taken out of context. The creators of the game on the other hand treat the books with the utmost respect, which makes their work much, much harder. I know some people complain about things like Gerald beeing too predefined as a character or Yennefer popping out of the blue, but I'm amazed they are so few of them. I mean - considering those limitations, the plot deserves even more respect.

That doesn't change the fact that, in a world that tries to paint abusive drunks, power-grabbing emperors and even children-eating witches as morally grey (or at least not totally black), the Eternal Fire sticks out like a sore thumb by being barely above the stereotypical degenerate, prostitute-killing crime lord in terms of morality. Apart from Siegfried back in Witcher 1, none of the representatives of that faith that I've seen in all three games have been anything else than zealous witch hunters or corrupt priests. The guy that ''welcomes'' you in Novigrad after the pyres just lacked a mustache to twirl as he sneered at you.

I finish to read this last book from Sapkowski, Season of Storms, appears a Witcher there from Cat School, The book takes place before the Last Wish, for this same witcher says he will rid the Striga from Vizima, he can be one of those mentioned by that guard.

Aye, Loredo was both entertaining and quite a capable leader in his own right, despite being a piece of sh*t. Have to respect him for that.

Leave it to The Witcher to make me admire characters like him.

Well, true enough (the quests I did involving the crime-lords and Triss were no way near as exciting and sad as teh Bloody Baron, that was some heavy shite....damn you Ladies of the woods, I want some payback!)

 

However, Novigrad HAS to be the new reference for CRPG-Fantasy-Cities...damn, when I compare this to Skyrim's cities? Or, even worse, Orlais in DAI? I could really walk all around Novigrad and just...soak up this feeling of a bustling real city, the view from the mountain is also great, and as a german with many an old city I can say yeah, the houses, the walls, the towers, it all looks great...

 

Really, Bethesda, Bioware, take a very, very close look at Novigrad for your next open world RPG...

Just met the Bloody Baron and started the first sequence as Ciri. So far I am completely in awe of this game. It's totally living up to the hype for me. Geralt's sarcasm is through the roof and I'm loving it. The scenes leading up to the meeting with Emhyr had me in stitches. 

Loved that confirming Geralt's ability to bow actually led to a dialogue/action choice asking me which leg and which arm to move after the Chamberlain had shown it. Totally caught me by surprise and had me thinking what the heck the guy actually just did.  Such a small thing but it's absolutely brilliant.
