Didn't see this before.

That doesn't change the fact that, in a world that tries to paint abusive drunks, power-grabbing emperors and even children-eating witches as morally grey (or at least not totally black), the Eternal Fire sticks out like a sore thumb by being barely above the stereotypical degenerate, prostitute-killing crime lord in terms of morality. Apart from Siegfried back in Witcher 1, none of the representatives of that faith that I've seen in all three games have been anything else than zealous witch hunters or corrupt priests. The guy that ''welcomes'' you in Novigrad after the pyres just lacked a mustache to twirl as he sneered at you.

You do realise Siegfried is the Grand Master of the Order of the Flaming Rose right? The militant arm of the Church of the Eternal Fire. They're two sides of the same coin.

You have somewhat pragmatic idealists like Siegfried and then you have fanatical demagogues and charlatans who use the church's power to further their own agendas, whatever they may be.

Although as the Order of the Flaming Rose seems to have aligned with Radovid as of the Witcher 2, or is at least supported financially by Redania; and left the Church of the Eternal Fire to go it's own way, it would explain why the Eternal Fire has gone full blown demagogue without Siegfried's influence to stymie the corruption and it's of religious indoctrination to create an "opiate of the masses" effect given that it's militant arm no longer follows it's orders.

Just because something is a side quest does not hurt its quality...

It does not and, granted, I have yet to play the quest so, I might be completely wrong.
Still, just from the positioning of it, I suppose the closest equivalent would be if

It's side content in the sense that Geralt does not need to do it to finish the game, BUT it will have a big affect on your ending JB if you choose to or let the conflict run its course without getting involved.

It was still a very well done questline and the second half only unlocks after a certain thing happens in the main story.

So, two things-

1. In the process of earning unique Gwent cards I found courtesans. Geralt went three in a row. Hear hear for him!

2. Playing Gwent I noticed a neat little trick, might help y'all in the future for winning matches. You know how some cards have an ability to bring a card in your discard pile back to the field(the equivalent of Monster Reborn in Yugioh TCG)? They chain. So say you have a Nurse card in your discard pile that has that ability, and you play Yennefer of Vengerberg. Yennefer has that ability, you can use it to bring back the Nurse, then the Nurse's ability comes into play and you can bring yet another card onto the field from your discard pile. Its a good trick if you want to multiply the amount of cards on the field without using a Monster deck.

So there's that. :)

Northern Realms still. MILFguard is building but isn't quite at the strength that my Northern Realms deck is at(most of my Hero cards are in MILFguard). My other decks are pathetic at the moment and incomplete.

Nilfgaard is the best deck if you want to sacrifice one round, but I prefer the Scoia'tael and Northern Realms deck, I don't have monster cards ;-;

My Monsters deck is the closest to completion actually, with 14 decent cards out of 22, including a Hero (one of those Wild Hunt fellows with weird names, Imlarith or somesuch). But yeah, it's a bit of a bummer that you're stuck with North for the first half of the game or so, until you can get some decent cards for thev other decks.

What is the combo? bring a lot of cards with just one?

Well, true enough (the quests I did involving the crime-lords and Triss were no way near as exciting and sad as teh Bloody Baron, that was some heavy shite....damn you Ladies of the woods, I want some payback!)

However, Novigrad HAS to be the new reference for CRPG-Fantasy-Cities...damn, when I compare this to Skyrim's cities? Or, even worse, Orlais in DAI? I could really walk all around Novigrad and just...soak up this feeling of a bustling real city, the view from the mountain is also great, and as a german with many an old city I can say yeah, the houses, the walls, the towers, it all looks great...

Really, Bethesda, Bioware, take a very, very close look at Novigrad for your next open world RPG...

I absolutely agree, but i think it will be a problem for Bethesda to make cities that size. Mostly because since Oblivion they script all their npcs to have functions. Like going to bed, work, eat etc, if they are gonna make a city that size with a 1000 inhabitants with scripts well then good luck finding a computer to run it. Even Whiterun is still a lagfest. If you are adding npc's as eyecandy without functions to make it feel like the population is bigger, then no problem. That is what sold me mostly on Novigrad, it feels populated, even though you can't interact with 90% of the city it still feels alive.

Bioware on the other hand if they move away from old-gen consoles their next game could benefit from this. Make Thedas a little bigger and feel more populated. So we'll see when we learn more about their new games.

I saw plenty of NPCs have functions and schedules...

There is no excuse for the crappy atmosphere Bioware and Bethesda games have had when even TW2 had fantastic atmosphere.

The NPCs do have functions and schedules in the witcher. The problem with Skyrim is that it was running on old as **** hardware, and on a modified version of gamebryo which is a terrible engine. With luck Fo4 and TESVI will be running on a completely new engine.

Well you can't decide what is good atmosphere and crappy for others though. It seems to be abit to much "i think it therefore it is attitude." Making a game is not easy and we are always judging when we don't know. Anyway i don't think you'll see that kind of city from the next Bethesda game, that is all i am saying.

I will admit that you are right about Val Royeaus.  With the frostbite engine bioware could have done alot better with cities in DAI, who knows maybe some DLC will do something about that.  To be fair to Skyrim it was developed using last gen hardware, so they havn't had a chance to see what TES can do in the gen though I will say the cities could be underwhelming.  What Bethesda should do is populate some unnamed npcs in the major cities to give their cities a huge bustling feel.  Hopefully with these TW3 cities everyone else will step up their game.

Is it bad that as soon as I saw this majestic sight I dove in and tried to shoot it, hoping I could harpoon it or something? PETA would disapprove.

...unfortunately it seems to disappear as soon as it goes under.

Among others, yeah. Endregas are great for that, since you can add to both the melee and siege rows, whereas other monsters with Muster clutter up the melee row and you get destroyed by one Biting Frost, or worse a Scorch that sends your 4 buffed Vampires into the frying pan in one go. At least, that's what I did to NPCs using monster decks. I'm going to also rely on neutral cards, so that 90% of my deck isn't countered by Biting Frost.

As for Novigrad, it's definitely the better of al lthe cities in recent RPGs. Still falls short of Assassin's Creed cities, but these guys kinda cheat by 1) having the entire game spent in a city so it's always going to be polished and 2) spawning and despawning NPCs as the player walks around to bring about the illusion of populated locales, which I don't think is done that much in Novigrad.

If the world bores me or has no life, then the devs failed. This is common for Bethesda and Bioware, it is not for CDP. Even bloody The Witcher had better atmosphere then any Bethesda or Bioware game.

The amount of ambient detail in the game, despite its size, is pretty insane. That and you can hit a random event that links you up with a quest,

Speaking of ambient detail, the weather effects in this game -- both visually and sonically -- are phenomenal; especially when you're wearing headphones. I've actually been startled by the sounds of thunder on several occasions.

Batman would beat Geralt.

I think you are forgetting something, Batman is dangerous because he gets time to prep, Witchers always prep for a contract.
