Perfect character design for Emhyr. He looks noble, strong and utilitarian in his tastes. I wouldn't change a thing. More Triss is always good:

I wish they gave her this hairstyle, but I suppose they had to differentiate her some more from Yen.

I'm pretty sure Charles Dance is going to be Emhyr's real defining feature. :S

Let us take a moment and admire the Emperor of Nilfgaard.

I do enjoy the clothing and general appearance of Emhyr. There is no sense of regal attire or any intricate style to it, but it comes off as rather plain considering his stature. At first I thought this was some small nobleman, and was surprised that it actually was Emhyr himself. I think it does speak about his character and how he feels no need to look admirable in front of anyone, since he doesn't need to for people to get his attention and he knows it.

I am ready to serve His Imperial Majesty.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to so "no sense of regal attire", but it is appropriately understated as far as conquering emperors go.

I can't be the only one who dislikes how the game now looks like Kill Bill with limbs flying off and blood splatters everywhere.

I can't be the only one who dislikes how the game now looks like Kill Bill with limbs flying off and blood splatters everywhere.

On the Witcher board reactions were kind of ambivalent. The consensus the way I see it is that amputation isn't bad in and of itself, and can actually be pretty cool and atmospheric - but that it needs to be toned down, because in the footage released nearly every death involved some limb flying off or body cut in half. They were overdoing it. But I have some memory of a Red saying in an interview that they intentionally messed with the amputation-percentage for the footage released, just to demonstrate it, meaning that in the final version it won't be as excessive.

Can't find a link to that, though.

Edit: Then again, one guy claiming to catch the consensus is a bit presumptuous, so I could be wrong. That's just my general impression of it.

Also, it's interesting to follow the debate about the quality of the screen shots, and the game in general, whether on GAF or The Witcher forum. Some brows are raised.

We're a picky bunch. I agree some aspects of those screenies look a bit dated. I had to compare with earlier pics to really see it. But the game is 5 months out, it's all a WIP. Bad timing with the insider dude as well, casting a cloud over the whole project. Thing with CDPR, if something's not right at release, they'll fix it. They're golden in that respect.

I don't get the downgrade tantrums. CDPR said in an interview those aren't the highest settings because Ultra hasn't been optimized on the build they have been showing in the last 5 weeks or so. Wait until they show you Ultra and if it isn't up to the standard they set at the beginning, then complain. CDPR drops so many movies and screenshots you will have a chance to see for yourself before the game is released.

I can't wait to have a 2 hour conversation with Emhyr.

I'll load the game again and again so I can exhaust every single line of dialogue with the fella.

If CDPR's writers are as good as they've always been I'll probably have to reload it again because I'll be like this the whole time

People are being picky on the visuals?

Wow..., err...

Okay?

The graphics have always been a nice touch since TW2, but it's not what made me fall in love with the franchise.

Still very likely one of the most fitting casting calls I've seen in a game for a long while.

Charles Dance could play a greeter at a grocery store and he'd still have a constant air of badass authority.

Yeah it was a joke as part of the Q&A towards the end of the video.  Just a joke from the presenter because someone asked if previous relationships matter more in 3 than what they did between Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Damien Monnier made a joke about it and hoping that the love interest was pregnant because she was really a challenge to sleep with. Just some good-natured ribbing from the presenter about 24 minutes in.

P.S. I still need to read the books, I have the English copies already but I need to find places to download the fan-translated books that haven't been released in English yet. I think they are somewhere on the Witcher forums but I plan to read them all in the next month!

Trying to figure out the read order of the books, it moves around from site to site but I think from reading the wiki that this is about the correct order to read the Witcher books in.  Is this about right? Also from those that have read the series how are the fan translations since not every book was officially published in English.

The Last Wish
The Sword of Destiny
Blood of Elves
Time of Contempt
Baptism of Fire
The Swallow's Tower
Lady of the Lake

Yep, that is the correct and recommended order to read the fantastic fantasy books of Mr. Sapkowski. The first two are both collection of separate novels about the life of Geralt and towards the end they kinda make way/prepare the story for the bigger saga that starts in Blood of Elves.

If I remember correctly The Sword of Destiny, The Tower of Swallow and Lady of the Lake are the only books that havent been translated to english yet.

They can be found here as fan translations and I think they are even better translated than the official ones so dont worry.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. :)
