Finished the game after a little bit more than 100 hours and wow... what a bad ending. 95% of the main story was fantastic and then such a underwhelming ending Really disappointed now and definitely no interest to go back and do the missing sidequests. Though I will probably start a second playthrought soon.
While playing the game I didn't find a single aspect in which this game didn't heavily outclass Dragon Age and then CDP pulls out such a crappy ending. The ending and non-quest character interaction is something Inqusition did much much better. Why could I barely talk to any of the characters ouside of quests? Zoltan had one line during the whole game, Dandelion 2. Yennefer 2 or 3. Triss didnt have any conversation option after Novigrad.Even Ciri had only 3-4 dialogue options after Geralt found her. And after finishing the story, they are all gone. Why should I continue doing quests when all the characters which are important for Geralt are gone adn the world feels completely empty because of this? What a huge letdown.
The other big disappointment is the portrayal of the Wild Hunt and the complete lack of interaction with Eredin. (and his portrayal)
Really expected more from CDP than the bioware-like evil for the sake of being evil treatment of the main villains (and yes I know they technically do it because their world is dying, but that is very poorly described and I didn't have the feeling it played a role for the actions of Eredin)
There are also some minor things I didn't like:
- inventory is a mess
- a lot of clipping issues
- Skellige political questline was weak. Especially in comparison to the complex politics of Witcher 2.
- sex scenes are very underwhelming. Except for Yennefer all scenes share the same models and mostly the same animations and no full frontal nudity like in Witcher 2. (though there is much more nudity in general than in the previous game, so I don't think they made the game more "politically correct")
- too many pointless treasures in Skellige. I'm a completionist and it's a pain for me to do all the ? symbols in the ocean around the skellige islands.Reminds me of Assassins Creed Black Flag,
- game is too easy after some time, even on the highest difficulty
- not explained what Geralt did while he was a Rider of the Hunt
- most decisions from Witcher 2 were ignored, Iorveth and Saskia weren't even mentioned
Aside from this points the game was fantastic.
The world was darker and grittier than ever before.
The mainstory was touching and excellently written full of memorable moments,
Excellent writing in general, especially the characters. Great sidequests with almost all of them having some kind of choice. Barely any black/white choices. A lot of interesting little stories.
Very good combat (very satisfying on Death March)
Music is the best I have ever heard in the game and very good voice acting in english (german rather sucked, tried it but characters like Keira Metz or the Bloody Baron lost a lot of their awesomeness without their excellent english voices)
Ciri part's were fun and I liked to exerience the story from her perspective
Overall all i was the best gaming experience I ever had and I cannot wait for the expansions, my second playthrought and mods, though I'm currently still very disappointed because of the ending.
