I wasn't even Yenn's biggest fan in the books, but I'll be going with her no matter what just because from a narrative perspective the idea of Geralt going with Triss is weird to me.

"Hey, my memory is back, I now know you're the love of my life, Yennefer, and that I pretty much spent an entire novel series with you, sold my soul to the Wild Hunt for you, and tracked you to the end of the earth and all, but your old best friend was a pretty good shag. See you later!"

...will be interesting to see how they handle it, though...and how they handle Yenn, on that note.

Triss and Geralt did a lot together, especially if you follow the Triss path in TW1-2.

I think the challenging part is how to handle our perception of his re-acquired memory. There was a lot of room (IMO) to define who Geralt was - or who he wanted to become - because of this absence of memory. Now that it's back, it's hard to justify why Geralt isn't himself, as opposed to who we pull him towards being in TW1-2.

My preferred take on this sort thing is pretty simple - Geralt gets back his memory, but all of it feels like it happened to someone else. So there's the choice of being that person again or not.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat.

After reading the books I feel like Yennefer is Geralt's canon soulmate. Right now it's not much of a choice for me, but I'll have to wait and see how they handle it.

Hm, good point, never really thought about it that way. I suppose just because your memory is back doesn't mean your old identity will immediately fall back into place.

I've always kind of figured Geralt would be a bit sore with Triss for never really bringing up Yennefer until he asked her to in TW2, though. To me it really felt like taking advantage of the amnesia in TW1. Even if Yennefer was believed dead as well, I'd think there'd be a 'Wait! What if Yenn is alive too?' lightbulb in Triss' head when she saw Geralt again.

Do you mean post-memory Geralt? I think it comes down to how you see Geralt as feeling about his memory (though obvs. it depends on how much freedom TW3 will give us). From my POV, the old Geralt was another person. New Geralt is similar in the sense that they're the same human being with the same personality, just minus the experience. But old Geralt's GF isn't new Geralt's GF, and Triss saying "Hey, you were totally in love with this person who you don't remember! Want to not have sex with the hot redhead in front of you because of that?"

That said, I'm pretty sure the lightbulb that should be going off for Geralt is how to make his Triss/Yen harem work (Shianni can come too).

Well, post-a memory. I mean after the beginning of TW2, where Roche's interrogation brings back memories of his and Yenn's death and he gets Triss to tell him about her on the way to Flotsam. I mean, it's been a while since I played TW1, but in the first 'sex scene' didn't Triss basically try to imply that she was Geralt's 'sorceress love' from before rather than Yennefer? That's...always rubbed me the wrong way.

Fair enough. Triss was pretty manipulative. But it's also the fact that TW1 sort of fused the Triss/Yen character. TW2 Triss is more who Triss is in the books from what I've read (about what CDPR did, not from the books, which I haven't read).

To be honest, though, I'm looking more forward to Geralt's father/daughter relationship with Ciri and how it's gonna be handled than I am Triss/Yennefer.

Game's soundtrack is gonna be awesome. The more Slavic-inspired tracks are godly.

Indeed. I'm curious, is the Sword of Destiny Slavic inspired as well?

The way that they speak the words of the song is almost...ethereal. It's truly striking.

I'm no expert, but I'd guess so. It's the game's main cultural inspiration.

That Slavic music band that made that trailer music so long ago is actually one of the OST's main composers apparently.

I actually filed a sexual assault charge to CDPR for the Sword of Destiny trailer, because that song and Charles Dance's voice were going at my ears all at once.

I'm really hoping it's basically going to be handled as optional. Because if there's one thing I can't stand for in games, it's exactly that. Nothing resonates with me less than parenting, except for I suppose zombies.

Very interesting interview with the Witcher 3 music composer.

"Our inspiration/reference database is set on several pillars. The first one is of course folk music from various latitudes – we draw from Slavic character of Central and Eastern Europe (thus we have folk from Poland, Ukraine, Russia, etc.), Celtic culture, Scottish (e.g. in Fields of Ard Skelling we used the melody of the nineteenth-century song Fear a' Bhata), or Scandinavian."

But I absolutely I agree. I love the music. Especially because it differs from other games. This is my favorite song so far. It was used at the end of the 35 min gameplay demo. When they showed Ciri lying there wounded and then the women in the song started to sing i got a shiver. Percival is such an amazing band.

Hm, an indifferent-to-Ciri Geralt is also something I could probably never do, but there should be options in how you deal with any character, yeah.

Talking about Ciri...mfw people ask for a romance.

That's just creepy.

And it's not that I want Geralt to be indifferent - that's very much not how I would play it - I just don't enjoy media focused around parenting relationships. It doesn't resonate with me, so I find it boring to get through.

I kinda doubt it'd be done in any traditional parental sense. Geralt thinks of her as a daughter, but the girl's basically a Witcher herself minus a few points, and she's evidently all grown up now.

But that's the baggage we have to accept if we choose Triss, just like Yen can be an imperious b*tch who doesn't even want to be with Geralt at times. Outside of Triss and Shani, I don't know of any women in the series who were actively devoted to helping Geralt, and who clearly state they'd want to settle down with him. The way I see it, Triss came clean in TW2. She wants to help him find Yen, she'll leave court life for him, she fesses up about her mistakes with the lodge, and she goes through hell in helping him regain his memory and finding Letho. That more than makes up for her dishonesty in my book. As for Shani, I understand why people hold a grudge over the writers dropping her, but she was never going to be a competent ally for Geralt in such a hostile environment. Ves on the other hand deserves to make a return.

Slim pretty much summed my feelings about the matter.

I care very little about Yenn being the "chosen one" for Geralt. I am not familiar with the books, and I am certain it would matter little since I have created and shaped the Geralt throughout the two games the way I wanted to with what was available to us, and is someone who is looking forward rather than to the past. Triss has more or less proved herself as a character and laid her feelings on the table for me, now it is up to Yenn  to show her colors. Personally I am looking for Yenn for questions and answers, and not to make her my waifu.

Anyhow, I am undecided how I will proceed when it comes to the women in TW3. As it stands now, I might end up choosing no one.

Something I can't find a clear answer to with google:  I haven't been following every scrap of information on this game, so if you'll indulge me, is there any word on a feature that would allow console players to determine the events of prior games?
