They did say politics wasnt gonna be as much as the previous games because of its more personal story.
But I do think they dropped the ball with Radovid.

That is unfortunately simplifying the issue. It is not the quantity, but quality of it. TW3 had some solid build up in Velen and what was introduced in Novigrad, but as soon as "political players" started entering the game and to put into use what the early stages established, it has taken a step down, since nobody seems to care about the war other than on a superficial level, since everyone and their mother seem to have something personal.

The more and more I play, the more I get the feeling that CDPR decided to make the game more as a sequel to the books, rather than the previous games.

Its to bad really, i found the political aspect of The Witcher 2 very interesting and i also liked how you could get so shafted by the consequenses of your choices. It felt abit better paced aswell. It didn't have as many feels as this game though.

Yeah, the aspect of war and politics is something I found strangely lackluster too, considering it was at the heart of Assassins of Kings. The ''war'' consists of two army camps chilling across the Pontar and a handful of old battlefields with corpses, plus the Temerian birdwatchers resistance. Novigrad's criminal underworld gets more screen time. And at least in Inquisition you had mages and Templars actually fight each other in the Hinterlands.

As for the politics, I've also been unimpressed. Emhyr seems like the biggest waste of Charles Dance ever, and Radovid is just a madman that needs to die, not even bothering to put it under spoiler tags since it's apparent from the minute you meet him.

Cripes, people in Velen and Novigrad seem far more concerned about their witch hunts than, say, the humongous Imperial army that is poised to wash over the North. Which diminishes the relative importance of the Nilfgaardian invasion (and by extention somewhat, TW2's plot) by a lot. The story is pretty much all about Ciri and Geralt, and while a personal touch is always nice...

The Witcher 3 portrays war beter, but lacks in the politics department sadly

Not going to read any spoilers here, but really? That was like the strongest part of 2's story.

So without giving me spoilers, if I'm currently looking for Ciri on Skellige with Yen about how far in the main quest line am I?

I've already done the Bloody Baron and Triss's stuff (romanced her of course) in Novigrad, I've also done the menial b*llshit with Dandelion and I'm currently going around doing side missions and contracts on Skellige

So...apparently this is what happens when you start playing as Ciri via console commands, and try to talk to somebody. :S

Para mim ele mereceu esse final, FDP ajudou a matar o Foltest e a enfraquecer o norte.

He deserved to die like that for helping to kill Foltest and for weakening the North.

Thats the second act, the first is in White Orchid.

@Steelcan: you are more or less in the middle of the story.

White Orchard is the prologue, the second arc is after you find Ciri.

Eu também não vou estar feliz em ver ele, mas eu só fiz o lado dele para saber como é. Meu canon é com o (B)Roche!

After you find Ciri is the third Act if i IIRC.

Talvez a CD Projekt pense igual você, levando em conta que eles mantiveram o Roche e não o Iorveth.

Once you return from Skellige and have done the Uma stuff, you're about 60-65% done with the MQ. I'll say it drags a bit. The rest is spoilers

Spoiler

All that being said, I think I'm so critical of the later story because the first half of the game is so great. The second half is still really good, it's just not as good as the first half.

I disagree about the latter half of the game being weaker. Mostly because all of the scenes where Geralt and Ciri were together were fantastic, and pretty much the highlight of the game for me.

I'm going to need a show of hands of who's willing to join me in a Sacrifice Ritual where we sacrifice stuff to the Developers in the hope of a standalone Gwent online game because damn this mini-game is incredible.

Just started the Baron storyline, and the first thing I do is the most obvious. Kick his backside at Gwent, then I tracked down 2 of the players he recommended, and kicked their backsides. Now Letho and Roche are in my collection!

Also kicked everyones backside at Crow's Perch. The Lady Smith was a bit of a hassle, but luckily I drew a Frost card each attempt at her, so as she kept emptying her hand, all her cards kept going to 1/2 haha.

Got to collect them all, then when the expansions hit, I can collect all the new ones!

What. It's just a little bit more complex than your avarage mini game, but it's too simple for a trading card game as it is. Hope for good draws to RNG out random peasants with hero cards, then after you amassed decent cards, just stomp them. It's a chore at first and a silly time sink later. I had harder time beating the leader ability negate Nilfgaard deck commoners than the champion dude with his stupid monster horde deck.

The AI is predictable, bait them fodder cards to soak up the destroys, then drop some -/- on their massed units (add extra Golden dragon board wipe for lulz), and drawing extra cards with spies (and Decoy theirs back) is way toooooo powerful.
