I think the fact that neither Sebastian Stepien or the other dude from Witcher 2 had a hand in Witcher 3's story is why there is less politics and why, when there is, like with Radovid, it underwhelms. These writers are still great, but they seem to be less competent with handling the more heavier plot oriented things. Politics as a driving force within a plot requires that its writer has immense empathy and insight to all the individual character motivations, and it's a huge puzzle to solve.

I really do agree they dropped the ball with Radovid... Unfortunately I also think they took the easy route with other old-timers from Witcher 2 (all of them) except Triss, but I didn't expect to see Roche in the first place in this game, so it's okay... but I really think that whole aspect of the writing was below the standard I had gotten used to with CDPR.

Roche is in TW3.....

Really tho I see everyone lamenting Radovid, but when CDP turned Demavend into a joke in TW2 by completely shitting on all he did in the last two wars with Nilfgaard, no one seemed to care :(

Myn got a very sympathetic portrayal before his death.

Then the entire North goes to ****.

There's a distinct lack of patriotism in the main cast, Roche excepted. Which is probably not helped by pretty much every single king being assholes, with the variable being between entertaining assholes (Foltest), plain nasty assholes (Henselt, Demavend regarding non-humans) or just power-hungry madmen (Radovid).

Hence, logically most players don't much care about the Northern realms. TW3 probably doesn't help matters, what with the Nilfgaard controlled area being relatively peaceful (White Orchard) and the North controlled areas varying between Velen (monster-filled hellhole ruled by a warlord) and Novigrad (big bunch of fanatics and criminals, often both).

Also, the xp curve of this game is truly all over the place. Why are there sub level 15 quests on Skellige when you need to beat a shipful of level 15 pirates to even get there? The main quest asks for level 16, but then the actual quests within the chain require level 14. In Velen, you can find quests and even items that require level 30ish right next to level 5-6 ones, hell you can find plans for level 20 swords in White Orchard. I ran into a guarded treasure with 2 level 13 Gargoyles and a level 28 Ice Elemental watching over it (the former were actually more trouble, elementals are ridiculously slow).

It's no a big deal, but methinks the game could have benefited from a smoother curve. I gained levels like crazy in Novigrad, on Skellige it has slowed to a crawl. And no, I don't have the quest xp bug, it's just that I'm level 20 and seemingly every quest is either level 15 or 26+.

BSN Witcher forum is the only place (of the few that I visit and isn't drinking the SJW kool aid) that has an overwhelming interest in the political aspects, nobody else seems to put this much importance on it.

It's about Geralt and his merry band, while the world has its own thing going on without a hero needed to save everyone, but somehow he just can't help but get involved in the bigger things because of the company he keeps.

Even if you could say you technically save the world in TW3, it's just a few people knowing what the hell was even going on, and they did it for the people they love.

Duny almost do the same to Ciri. All kings in TW series tend to fulfill their "destiny" through incest. They are all monsters!

There's nothing to see there, but the REDKit sections. PC elitists and crybabies aren't fun.

Even the Larian forums are full of assholes, which is a surprise since the games they make are all around lighthearted ones. :D

Is it just me or is Ciri's run animation bizarre?

Really? That's surprising because politics was at the heart of TW2, even if it's reasonable not to expect the next game to be about politics - it seems reasonable for people to wish there was more.

She has kind of a weird run thing going on, yeah.

I can appreciate a well-built story involving politics, but that aspect in particular interests me as much as it does Geralt. Guess he and I make a good fit.

Doing Playthrough #2 on Story Mode - finished off the first open section - a few surprises came from the "?" locales. This round I get to see how Letho & Iorveth fit into the story. I'll probably spot at least one in Novigrad, since that seems to be Character-Memory-Lane for Geralt.

It seems reasonable for people to wish there was more.

I'll agree to that. There is an awfully large percentage of personal stories versus political or otherwise - believe Chewin touched on that earlier.

Yeah, it isn't as much as the game's lack of politics, but the representation of it being very mediocre (so far that I have seen). Everyone who followed TW3 knew that it would be more personal, and which is something I personally welcomed since I do love Geralt's interactions with closed ones and everything in between, which also was something much needed, I find. But it doesn't justify making the political portrayal so weak, especially with everything going on and having everyone--even political players--centering on something personal related, made even worse when it contradicts certain aspects what TW2 established, e.g. Radovid and Philippa. Also how CDPR have handled choices in the previous game has been very lazy regarding the political stage, since most have molded into one scenario, with minor dialogue changes here and there (a tell don't show approach, which I detest).

Hopefully the two upcoming expansions will rectify this, but I doubt it will since there are already damages that have been done.

So true.. I just did the level 24 quest of Mastercrafted(blacksmith)at level 17 on deathmar .. You know what the **** the quest gave me ? YOU KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT GAVE ME ? A LEVEL 15 SWORD.  WHAT THE ACTUAL ****.

The NPC is all '' I WILL GIVE YOU THE MOST AWESOME ****** SWORD OF THE WORLD''.. And after I got it it already dismantled.

CDPR you ****** moron. I'M SUPER ANGRY.

i did it at level 17 because I had a feeling the weapons would be low level . A level 24 quest that gave a level 15 sword lol. And you had to wait ''day'' to get it crafted by a mastercrafter. ****. Generic soldier drop better sword than this.

Anyway . The only good gear in that game are the witcher stuff. Everything else is poop and look like poop.

It does not contradict Phillippa at all, while I do find her plan for CIri is a bit too soft compared to her old plans for her, she is still very much in character, more so in her moments with Dijkstra.

Not from what I have seen.

Radovid's and Philippa's relationship is contrary to TW2, which portrayed a rivarly that featured resentment, but also respect and a bit of affection. TW3 has has lost that--turning one into a lunatic and the other into heartless individual--both losing their complexity in the process and making it simply about one-sided revenge (Radovid directly contradicts what TW2 told about his relationship with Philippa. Or he is lying, but that is stupid as hell). And that isn't even mentioning their respective ideologies and governmental visions they had, which I've seen not a trace off, and I doubt I will.

And this is from early stages on my part, and I doubt the game will prove otherwise, especially from what I have heard.

I didn't say otherwise.

There's a lot more who didn't play the witcher 1 who played witcher 2, than there are people who didn't play witcher 2 who's playing witcher 3 right now.

There's even more people who didn't bother reading the books. So really, and speaking for myself, I had no clue what Demavend was like before he was assassinated unceremoneously in Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition's intro cinematic.
