The problem with TW3 is that although I did greatly enjoy it overall and I find it quite memorable I realize that it has vast problems in terms of it's main story structure, complexity and characters.
I mean for **** sake after giving us superb antagonists like Jacques and Letho you then proceed to shove Eredin down our throat?
Take away Ciri and Geralt's superb cinematic interactions and writing and you get the worst story main story in the history of the series.

To me it was the best Mass Effect, and the best game I've played. Most successful/most popular =/= best.
If you go by that definition then Witcher 3 is the best too. I'm not saying I don't think it is, but in terms of storytelling I think Witcher 2 has the edge.
Just for the record though. I love Mass Effect 2, a lot. I just can't really praise it for its storytelling. It has a lot of interesting characters and subplots but the main plot... nah. It just wasn't handled properly.
If the new game + is true, Withcer 3 will be the best game of the series to me.

Eredin could have been a really good villain if they had expanded on certain things instead of just going lulz evil guy on a horse.

Personally, I haven't finished the game but can't wait until it explores Eredin's morality and whether Geralt is any more rigtheous since Eredin intends to prevent the genocide of an entire people. Furthermore, given the nature of the White Frost, I expect the theme of whether sentient beings can fight against inevitability and the insignificance of life in the grand context of things.
...what?

Bear in mind that I have not beaten the game or even been back to Kaer Morhen yet, so anything I've said is my judgement based on that point in the game. I will say though, that early on in this game I got the feeling that the main plot is ultimately gonna be not as complex as in Witcher 2, but I hope it will still surprise me. I think the game's strength is in the side-content to be honest. If I had to mention all the most impactful moments in the game so far they have all been in the side-quests that unlocked after the "find Ciri" part of the main plot.
After I was done mainquesting Skellige I felt it was time to actually explore the area and do some side-quests there. I just came across a guy name Jorund in a tavern in Arinbjorn, who had a contract for me. After I was done with the contract some idiots told me to pack my stuff and begone, but Jorund came to my side, so we started brawling 2-on-2. Then they beat the crap out of me before I could even react and I got a really nice cutscene of Jorund drawing his final breath and reflecting on his life.
I mean, it's stuff like that, which I find to be the real meat of this game. There's tons of memorable small stories scattered about everywhere in the game, and even if they're not super mindblowing I still enjoy them and they make an impact on me because of how random they can be. There's going to be so many things I never saw, once I'm done with this game.
EDIT: Holy ****. Now I'm on trial in front of the village's Jarl. This game is full of surprises.

Yes, like the VS and Liara, still it is one of the most praised game ever.
Therefore, it had zero continuity problems?
Just because it was liked doesn't mean it didn't have serious problems or above reproach. I thought ME2 would have been the worst in the series until I reached the last ten minutes of ME3.

It's rather pathetic. He supposedly wants to get Ciri in order to use her to stop the White Frost but with the huge risk that it could kill Ciri.....and of course Ciri stops the White Frost anyway right after Eredin is killed.
Talk about a completely pointless antagonist.

SO I ran into a Saskia mention from Philippa. It should at least semi please Chewin in a way, still wished they did more with her tho. Iorveth I can understand since he really has no reason to help the North or Nilfgaard) and he's most likely hiding out at the Blue Mountaoins but Saskia just disappearing? :/
I'll spoiler tag it just in case, but Chewin you can look as it's not massive.

The build up he had in the books was fricken better, BUILD UP. How the hell can build up be 1000 times better then a finished product CDP!?

Which CDP dropped the ball on. They didn't truly expand on this or why Eredin is going this far. All he spouts is EVULS! throughout the whole game.

I think they made the right choice leaving it unexplained to be honest. He's not a very compelling villain, but when you're dealing with inter dimensional elves who are at war with unicorns, and searching for the heiress to the nilfgaardian thrown, who is a sorceress, the only female witcher, and can travel through time and space whenever she wants, you risk getting a dumb story very fast. I'd rather an average villain than Star Kid.
And he needs it to open a portal between the two worlds, because his world is being destroyed by the white frost.

It's weird, because while Inquisition had great story quests and overall mediocre sidequests, TW3 has amazing side-quests and a main quest that is mediocre except from a few highlights (Like the Bloody Baron and the interactions with Ciri). Mash the two together, mix with Pillars of Eternity's combat mechanics, and I'm pretty sure you're close to as perfect as RPGs get.
Also, upgraded Quen sign = lolop. Even if the baddies break through the sustained shield, it still heals Geralt for a good third of his health bar.

There's also wolf school armor, viper school armor, and a ciri alternate look hinted at in them. Apparently if you go back to white orchard post game there's a new Temerian armor set called "NG+ Temerian armor" for level 28 and above. But I haven't checked myself, so i rekt myself.
Also I've heard CDPR has talked about a permadeath game mode. Considering how janky the controls are I certainly won't be playing on that. I'd hate to get sixty hours in and then drown because the swimming controls are bad, or die because I clipped into the geometry and shot up into the air, or fell six feet and shattered Geralt's glass bones.

CDP did hint at NG+ on the forums so it might happen.

They've said they're also going to continue work on the game for another two years, but they only have expansions planned for one year. So maybe we can expect to see one additional post game expansion. Oxenfurt is confirmed to take place during the base game, but we don't have word on when the second will take place.
At any rate you can kind of do NG+ when you enable to console, it just takes awhile. I've not do it yet myself, but if NG+ isn't released next week I might. Also I want muh wolf and viper armor.

Arrived in Novigrad ready to get my heart on for Triss!
But firstly, I swept the floor with the Banker and the Innkeeper for there Cards. Completed the Innkeeper Gwent Quest, then I defeated the lady at the... "Mature" establishment shall we say (The one where you can pay for bumping uglies), and then that quest completed.
She recommended me my next opponent, but as the quest completed, I'm guessing that guy is part of the High Stakes Gwent tournament? Clarification would be much appreciated.

Hardly anything is being kept within spoiler tags in this thread for some reason, no idea why. Because of this I've limited my visits to this thread while I'm still playing.
