lmao @ "worst writing."
Do u even ME3?
Yup, and I also have the ability to look at games without "nostalgia glasses". You haven't played Witcher 1 recently if you think the writing is better than ME3.

The expansion description says old characters will be returning for both of them. Most people I've seen online are speculating the returning characters are Iorveth, Saskia, Shani, and maybe Siegfried.
I beat the game 10 minutes ago. What a great game. I still have absolutely no idea how long it took. I think I got a quite satisfying outcome... but the conclusion... Aaaaah I really don't wanna be saying this after such a good time but, the ending was ****** lacklustre. The whole climax was building up great but then... it suddenly started itself up in a pace that felt unnatural to me.
I'm sorry, but that does not cut it for me. Again, THERE'S NO CLOSURE!? What the fuuuuuck? ![]()
This was yet another big and long RPG where I got so invested in the characters and wanted to follow them to the very end and I just feel cut off before I'm ready to. Game developers really need to master how to tackle the bookends of a video game trilogy (emphasis on game) because the pacing of this ending is just too abrupt for how long it takes to get through it IMO. At least it mostly makes sense and I understood why most things happened.
...everything except
CDPR is not done with this game IMO. I hope they can throw in some more stuff for Enhanced Edition in half a year's time or one year at least.
I hate saying this, but I'm pretty ****** disappointed. I hope there's a better ending in the game but somehow I suspect there is not.
But to lighten the mood again. (with some late game albeit non-verbal spoilers). This made me go lmao:

Skip the first one and watch a story playthrough on youtube because it is terrible. Witcher 1 has the worst writing, dialogue, and voice acting I've ever seen in a game, granted CDPR was still a very small indie company and didn't have a budget for such things. Keep that in mind if you decide to play it and hopefully it won't turn you off from the franchise.
What? TW1 is of course very old now and bad in some ways (Graphics, voice acting etc. but this counts for all old games) but its still a very good game
It has a great and unique (slavic) atmosphere and the writing isn't bad at all
The ending is better than recent Bioware games (ME3, DA:I) too even though CDPR was just an indie company back then
Saying it has the worst of anything is just silly

The gameplay is basically just terrible, and those swamps are an abomination. It's an indie game and it shows.
Not sure how the graphics in TW1 could be considered bad though...now, yes, but the fact that CDPR squeezed stuff like this out of the same engine as Neverwinter Nights was damned impressive.

I think the acting and presentation (except environmental graphics) is so awful in TW1 that it makes it impossible for me to judge the writing itself properly. That makes no sense, but that's what I feel.
I think ME3's problem with writing for me mostly was that Shepard had too many moments where he had to stand and moralize in front of soldiers or tell them the meaning behind sacrifice or just in general there was too many empty and melodramatic platitudes in between all the characters too often. I much prefer how TW1 and TW2 character seem above their emotions but they show feelings when they have to and when it feels fitting. I felt that way even more about Witcher 3. It wasn't a problem in ME1 or ME2 either, except for Benezia's awful death scene.

That's basically the engine Bioware used in everything (though they modded it heavily, obviously) up to the release of ME and now DA:I.
Would love to play a new character .. Like a Higher vampire ![]()

Yeah I agree about the ending (got the same one as you), more closure was definitely needed especially since this is the last game with Geralt

I think characters are pretty emotional in TW in general. They're just not melodramatic. They talk about their emotions the way people do, as opposed to the way a CW character would talk about emotions. Bioware's pretty hit and miss on this point, IMO. Hit, in that it's always good... until (miss) they get to a romance. And then it's the CW.
Can you tell me which choices affect the ending scene(s) most?

Yeah ok the gameplay was bad I agree on that
That's basically the engine Bioware used in everything (though they modded it heavily, obviously) up to the release of ME and now DA:I.
And frankly it looked a lot better than anything BioWare did on that engine, before or after.
Which doesn't say a heck of a lot, but still.
Seriously juist play witcher 1 in polish. The english dub was terrible.

I tried Witcher 2 in polish but ended up questioning whether it was even the original voiceover for the game. The characters sounded like people speaking into microphones and I'm not a good judge when it comes to foreign acting but it didn't sound like good polish acting to me. Made me think the english dub was the one CDPR cared most about.

I think DA:O is pretty comparable. The big difference is the face models, but Bioware's always going to suffer in that regard because they use a CC rather than the more complex custom tools you can use to create high-res faces (which is how ME cheated for the face models).
Witcher 1 had a good story, soundtrack and atmosphere, but the rest? eeeh. Combat was a boring Simon Says, level design was awful (as someone has said, the swamps are one of the single worst levels in any RPG). Loot wasn't anything to write home about. Animation quality was mediocre, conversations especially were incredibly stiff and several characters had freaky, globulous eyes (such as Zoltan and Dandelion). The sex cards were also just silly.
CDPR has come a long way since then. The only thing that's not straight up better in TW3 IMO is maybe the main plot. And that's a big maybe.
I think DA:O is pretty comparable.
I'll have to disagree with you there. TW1 was much nicer to look at than the dull, jagged, murky brown-ness of DA:O.

TW1 should only ever be played with Polish voice over. It's like experiencing a foreign film. I don't know how the hell they pulled off that cathedral in TW1 it literally outdoes most of the indoor environments in TW3.
Another thing I just realized makes absolutely no sense to me regarding a lot of the endings:
Wow. So love conquers evil. What happened CDPR? I really think they ran out of budget or stopped caring when they were developing the final bit of the story.

Being a dane who semi-regularly sees foreign stuff like French, Spanish and American movies, that's not the vibe I got from TW1 or TW2's polish dub, at all, lol.

Just a question.
I plan in playing WItcher 3, very excited about it, but decided to play Witcher 1 and 2 for the first time before.
It's strange how some people here are trying to portray Witcher 1 as a bad or mediocre game.
The enhanced edition has a metascore of 86% and userscore of 8.5.
In comparison Dragon Age Inqusition also has a metascore of 86% (85% xbox, 85% pc, 89 ps4=86,3%) and userscore of 6,7 (7.4 ps4, 5.8 pc, 6.9 xbox)
Though I agree that the gameplay takes getting used to and is mediocre at best and distracting at worst. I would try it (it's often on steam/gog sales for 1-2$) out and if you can't get along with the combat I would watch a let's play, but you will miss a lot of the great atmosphere.
