YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

It's like Christmas wrapped into a present on my birthday watching this haha.

Anyway, met up with Roche, got to say I love that Bro. Then took his Gwent card from him. Now I have to wait for the right moment to get Lambert to play Gwent.

Defeated Djikstra at Gwent, then that Scoia'tael elf who took 4 tries. He gave me a weird named card and I was like "Who the hell is that?!"

Realized it translated to Ciri lol. My deck is just getting better and better.

Just because its a mix of both its "lack of consistency"?
I disagree its just a diverse world no need to be super realistic

And saying that DA is more consistent (especially how they change the lore whenever needed, see Qunari) is strange

GDR has a point; there is a crucial difference between Dragon Age and Witcherverse. The first is an attempt at worldbuilding ‘from the ground up’ that tries to remain internally consistent. That a lot of people (including me) consider it a, erm, rather mediocre attempt doesn’t change the fact that it’s a world deliberately made for ‘self-immersion’ by way of roleplaying.

The Witcher’s setting is a literary-historical-mythological-fantasy pastiche and was never intended to be an elaborate, internally consistent world in which to roleplay. It’s merely a background for stories Sapkowski wanted to tell and not a worldbuilding exercise a la Tolkien. As such, it’s actually really bad and inconsistent worldbuilding from a roleplaying game perspective. The more over the top stuff works in the stories (mostly), not so much in a game that you play for a hundred hours or more.

That was probably one of the biggest challenges for CDPR: translating the literary setting to an RPG setting. They did this by ‘historicising’ stuff and making it much more specific in terms of material culture etc., but they were still stuck with the weird over the top things. Some of that – like travel between worlds and having an order of magically and alchemically enhanced warriors – isn’t that much of a problem as long as it remains very rare – but talk about DNA, some of the overly familiar fairy tale stuff and the immediately recognisable historical references can feel very ‘off’.
Unfortunately, this is all either Sapkowski or very much like him.

The worldbuilding CDPR did at the micro- and medium level – villages, Temerian folk culture, Skelliger culture, the material culture etc. is first-class though. Ironically, this only makes the clash with the ‘off-feeling’ Sapkowskisms stronger.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind CDPR doing their next game in another setting that has similarities in terms of mood and theme with their Witcher games, but leaves out the overly anachronistic or overpowered stuff.

Seriously though, the more I think about it, the more I miss that dammed elf.

I guess they didn't put him in, because he would have no business being in Velen or Skellige, and he would be hunted and killed in Novigrad for sure.

I'm still hoping he will find his way to Toussaint somehow. For some reason.

His voice is super distinctive too, so it's hard to miss.

I kind of wish Bioware picks him up as a VA.

I could not concentrate on Bloody Baron's sergeant's initial lines in Crow's Perch because I was too busy thinking "yo, that's Iorveth!"

Good news! CDP has acknowledged some of the main problems with the game and there is at least a chance some of them will be addressed.

Some quotes regarding the politics in Witcher 3:

"I won't lie to you - many issues described in this thread are rooted too deep in existing content to fix them with subtle changes, which means they're very unlikely to get fixed/changed. We'll address what we can with future updates of course, but Enhanced Edition is not being planned right now."

"I understand. Believe me, there are loads of things we'd like to make better / different if we could, looking back at the game now. Some of the issues you're raising were brought up during development, but for various reasons couldn't be addressed at the point we stumbled upon them.

I'm not saying no, and I'm not saying yes - everything is possible, but it depends on our resources and time."

"First of all, sorry for "slamming with the sledgehammer" - I know that's not exactly what you guys would like to hear, but I want to be honest with you and don't want to make any empty promises.

Regarding different problems like the portayal of the Wild Hunt, lack of Triss content after Novigrad, lack of influence of Witcher 2 decisions and lack of a worty conclusion of the trilogy:

"As for your questions:
1) They are aware of some of these problems, the others they didn't know about. I'm going to bring the latter to their attention.
2) I can't promise you that these will be done in any form. I can promise you though that I will bring up discussion about those in the office.

It was brought up by someone else in this thread that I mentioned time and resources needed to do such changes, and that we supposedly have both now - it's not that simple, belive me, but I can't get into details here. It is also not my decision to allocate resources we would need for this. As I said - I will bring this up with people who can make such decision, and we will see what happens."

"Plot foundations, core structure of quests, choices or endings, etc. Presentation of those could be improved though, given the resources."

Specifically asked about the problems with the (lack of) characterization of the Wild Hunt and Eredin and the unsatifactory post-ending situtation:

"Yes, we've read about both of these issues."

If they do any more expansions after the Season Pass, they should do one like the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3.

But where in the Witcher 3, everyone would come back to re-build Kaer Morhen to the best its ever been, something happens to spawn a main story quest, while offering side quests and companion quests.

Then the conclusion would be truly saying goodbye to everyone, and then magically sealing Kaer Morhen away.

That would be a good DLC to introduce into the post-ending situation.

^Who are they going to rebuild it for? The Witchers are ultimately screwed and Kaer Morhen will be occasionally visited by Geralt if he could be bother with it.

Also, Citadel DLC was rather bad. It came off more like a really poorly written fan-fiction than anything else.

^Who are they going to rebuild it for?

For Vesemir. I'm pretty sure it was like a project for him, although I think he only lightly commented on the state of it.

But to rebuild it for him would be quite heart warming for me.

You mean the King who slept with his own sister?

I'm still bummed Iorveth makes no appearance and I really hope he will come back in an expansion. He's too awesome to be killed off in some stupid ambient dialogue.

It was a consential sex between 2 adults human beings, who I am to judge them?
And he still the broest king ever, he didnt deserve to die, specially in front of his daugther.
Thats why Letho and Iorveth deserved to die, luckly thats what happened in my games.

I stayed out of this topic for good three weeks, because some chaps just couldn't hold in the excitement and were dropping spoilers left and right. Well, ****... I'm back.

I've been reading up on this thread now and holy **** at that Costin Razvan meltdown, buahahahaha. Worthy of NeoGaf, truly. Anyhow, to those curious...

PC version of TW3 has sold over 1 million copies so far, over 693k on GOG. Amazeballs.

I myself found Roche to be a very entertaining character and a total bro, but Iorveth I personally found was a vastly more interesting character. Seriously hope he appears and has some involvement in the future expansions.

Did this quest just now.

Spoiler

*snip*

It does speak volumes for CDPR to openly come out and admit that they made some mistakes, instead of completely closing themselves away from the community. I can respect that. My only complaint right now lies in the portrayal on politics, which I doubt will see much change in the future since the damage has already been done (though there are other aspects they could improve upon, which is better than nothing).

But whatever the case, currently it is good that they acknowledge faults that lies with the game, and hopefully we'll have an Enhanced Edition or anything similar in the future, for whatever further problems they consider.

That's a bad fan art, because Iorveth never defeated a Blue Stripe commander! He couldnt have the White Lily badge!

Ah, this reminds me of the most head scratching moment in TW2.

...why the hell did Roche/Iorveth spare the other? Iorveth made more sense, as a grudging respect and a way of mocking Roche, but Roche sparing Iorveth? Wut.
