Well that's a problem. They pretty much wrote themselves in a corner by wanting Geralt to have a more personal story while at the same time having such important events as a Nilfgaardian invasion going on in the background. They should IMO have spent more time on the war and less on some subplots in the main quest, especially the one in Novigrad which just dragged on and wasn't very good.

That's probably one of the things I liked most about the game. The sense that, really, you're barely on the periphery of all of these important events, and you're totally irrelevant to their resolution or progress.

Dragged? LOL

Sorry but I don't see any problem - what you're suggestion would be a problem.

The game is called The Witcher. It's not called The War or something nor you're playing space jesus.

I think what he is saying is that it is weird how little focus they put on the actual war when it is this large scaled. I mean in the other games we have always had the chance to be a part of the politcal change of said kingdoms we were in. We also know both the big players in this war personally and yet they do not try to utilize us as a tool at all. There is alot of exciting story here that could be used better, atleast as far as the Novigrad section goes pre and post Kaer Morhen. Charles Dance as Emhyr was on the screen for like 20 minutes in a 100 hour long game, that was just insulting.

Have you finished the game yet?

Cause I don't want to spoil anything

Spoiler

Unless you mean as far as using Geralt for any grand battles in which case no, Emhry and Radovid use their own soldiers for battles not a hired monster slayer to command an army or anything.

Yes i have finished the game, and yes i know we are utilized in some form. I just found it lacking compared to TW2. And yes TW3 is a more personal story, i just missed that part of the series in this game. Still a fantastic game though.

People's opinions on "Reasons of State" seem to be uniformly terrible. Don't know the details since I'm not even in Skellige yet, but at least my expectations of that quest is low.

I've heard that the plot and narrative kinda takes a nose-dive in the final stretch, but that is nothing new from CDPR (Witcher 2 Act 3). Will be interesting to see if they're gonna do anything to remedy it, like an enhanced version to incorporate the cut content maybe.

It's not that Geralt is irrelevant. Indeed, everyone wants Geralt's help; Radovid and Emhyr, but also Roche, Thaler and Dijkstra. They know that having this superhuman warrior and tracker that knows every important person from Kaer Morhen to the city of Nilfgaard on your side is a good thing to have.

My beef is that almost all related to the war happens in side-quests, where Geralt just pops up, does something important, then goes away and the consequences of his momentous actions are barely given any focus. Reason of State is the epitome of this;

I'd have thus rather the Novigrad arc(s) focus more on the war, rather than tracking down Dandelion, finding Sigi's treasure, and dealing with the most boring antagonist in the game (Whoreson). The Skellige arc worked as an adventure with Yen, the Kaer Morhen arc brough out all the feels between laughter and tears, and the Velen arc is the best part of the game which is really saying something. Yet everything that happens in Novigrad just feels lacking compared to the rest. Reason of State is just the most prominent example of how weaker the narrative is there. Cripes, I felt more investment in High Stakes, and that quest was about a freaking card game tournament!

Looking at the files, and some old documents that got leaked, indicates that around 30 to 40% of act 3 got cut. So I'm guessing there's even more than just the stuff we know about. Major plot points too, like the Wild Hunt attacking Novigrad.

And also the appearance of everyone's favorite elf. The game as it is right now seems to have really neutered the characters and plot points of Witcher 2. CDPR is probably working on the expansions right now, but I'm really curious as to whether they're gonna do an enhanced edition that adds considerable new content to Act 3, like they did in Witcher 2, or if they've decided they're too mainstream for that kind of fanservice now.

If Iorveth is in the second expansion, hopefully CDPR gives us the choice to end him. So I can finally avenge Foltest (the only one who shall survive is Emhyr, because he is needed for a almost free Temeria).

If they didn't want to or thought they couldn't focus onde the war with Nilfgaard, they shouldn't havê focused the entirety of tbe previous game setting it up.

Witcher's path is basically keep away from any political conflict as far away as possible. For me TW3 done an amazing job in this. TW2 Geralt is bascially dragged into political stuff due to Triss (yup she is toxic). And now since Yenna and Ciri are back, Geralt could finally come home. :P

CDPR were wise to hold that one back for free DLC.

Well that could be said about all of the DLCs released so far.

Sorta, yeah, but that one's of particularly questionable quality.
