Since it's pretty much impossible that they would release more than one alternate look for any character, I hope some awesome modder would give Triss something close to her Witcher 2 outfit and her hair down.

I wish someone made this mod for TW1 as well.

Apparently, the TW1 Rise of the White Wolf retexture modpack had it for a short while (no-cleavage outfit for Triss), but they deleted it and refused to reupload it for people who are interested. :/

All DLC is free. You shouldn't have to put in any info. I swear, despite partnering with MS, Xbone got the shaft here. Over 70 reviews on PS4, and 11 with Xbone. Someone please explain that one to me.

It's not just the professional reviews. The user reviews are only a quarter of that of the number of PS4 or PC user reviews. They are only about a tenth of the total number of TW3 user reviews across all three platforms.

For DA:I, Xbone number of user reviews is about a third of the number for the PS4 and barely a sixth of the PC user reviews. Although in the case of the PC, many of the user reviews may be pissed-off PC players as well as some pure anti-BioWare Internet trollery.

Hard if not impossible to extrapolate any hard numbers from this, but this can't be good for Microsoft's sales numbers. Anecdotal evidence, but among my gaming friends and colleagues the rate of PS4's versus Xbones is currently 4:1.  The Xbone did sell reasonably well in North America - I think - but elsewhere it seems to be a bit of an uphill struggle, and that inevitably has an impact on software sales AND user reviews on Metacritic.

Anyway 37 hours on the clock and I think I've had enough time to justify the following criticism. Though I think The Witcher 3 is a brilliant game and many developers should take notes on how CDPR handled their open world game, I do think CDPR dropped the ball on a few accounts.

1) Roleplaying.

Now we all know that Geralt was pre-defined from the start, however the amnesia allowed us to shape his morals, ideals and essentially create a new identity. Through out the Witcher One and Two we've been asked "what does Y mean to us?" Or "given X would you do Y?" Most prevalent of examples would be The Witcher One's own Identity quest where we are asked to search for a new one to help our memories return.

The Witcher 3 has had none of these things, in fact, it plays more like an adventure game than an RPG. More often than not Geralt is resigned to two options and when any others come up they're simply questions. Nobody has asked us what Ciri means to us now that we've had a chance to become somebody else, it's as if the return of Geralt's memories have washed away the progress we made as an amnesiac.

It's a shame really, since the only defining questions we have are about who we want to bang. I always admired how CDPR managed to handle roleplaying with such a defined character, but it seems it's been thrown out the window for The Witcher 3.

I'm aware that Geralt has always been pre-defined, but never in a way that would inhibit our ability to shape his beliefs. I read the Last Wish and Blood of the Elves during my Witcher 2 run and I could see just how different my Geralt was to book Geralt. If not Ciri, then anything... but really nothing is asked of us in the sense that the Witcher One and Two made it, as in, pro-player choices in regards to who Geralt is.

Now before anyone goes up in arms, I am referring to my definition to "The Question." Others may feel it still remains an RPG and that's fine. I just wanted to put this on the table since it's been bothering me a lot throughout the game.

2) Urgency and Motive.

CDPR's writing is on point 9/10 times. The entire chase for Ciri is made interesting through the cast of characters and general atmosphere of the plot. We have Mob Bosses, Mages, Barons and Bards; Lords, Kings and Whoresons. If this were any other company, I think the main quest would be a yawnfest, yet the stories that accompany these fleshed out characters makes it all worth while.

Now, saying that, CDPR reaaaallly dropped the ball here. When handling an open game with such an attention to narrative I think it's important to make each point of interest as relevant to the next. Ironically enough, BioWare handled this better in Mass Effect 3 than CDPR did in the Witcher 3.

Ciri is your objective, to get to Ciri you might allow yourself the distraction of Gwent or a bit of Monster Slaying to fund your endeavours. However, when Vernon Broche of the Bro Army of Bros asks you to help out with Ves or when King Radovid is asking you to hunt Eilhart... what does it all matter to the bigger picture?

It's interesting sure, and they come with their own tid-bits of great writing and dialogue, but when looking at it all from a certain angle, especially given that its a MUST that Geralt would care nothing more than to look for Ciri, the entire thing is pointless. Mass Effect One had this exact same problem with handing out side quests to a Main Protagonist that needed to catch Saren above all else. It's far more personal this time, and it goes with the above "what does Ciri mean to us?" Yet the principle remains the same.

There's a lot of fluff in the Witcher 3. Great fluff, but fluff non the less.

To provide a more popular example (since mentioning BioWare in a Witcher thread is as bad as mentioning the Witcher in a BioWare thread) I'm going to go ahead and use Planescape: Torment as the best way to handle this.

Similarly, PST gives you a main quest that dwarfs anything else in the game in comparison. However, what PST does do is give you the freedom to do anything else without feeling obsolete. Why would The Nameless One want to get back his memories? Why would The Nameless One want to follow on the same path his other incarnations did? You can totally ignore this and yet the Main Quest comes for you. Literally, if you tarry too long in Sigil you will be attacked by shades, essentially forcing you as a character to resolve this matter once and for all.

So, in short, what the Witcher 3 does is give you quality CDPR writing yet little incentive to explore most of this as a roleplayer AND as Geralt himself.

That pretty much sums up what I think are the two more prominent flaws in the game. Of course, there are others, such as Radovid turning into Meredith and save imports not really mattering.

But those, for me, can be shooed away in contrast to them beasties up there.

Anyway.

Gonna go and do all the fluff I can :D

Too bad the save import is pointless except for Letho's fate and the awesome tattoo. Noone seemed to care that i went with Roche, or rescued Triss...or boned Ves.

^ Yup.

Anyway, I helped Triss and then that slap on the face towards CDPR's bastardisation of Radovid hit closer to home. Dijkstra's speech of the modernisation of state was everything CDPR built Radovid up to be.

Goddamn Shame.

I switched from the 360 to PS4 this generation for my console gaming. Among other things, Microsoft's initial pitch of features - always online kinetic, etc. - were not the brand of gaming I wanted to support. Plus, now that I've build a top-tier PC, the Xbox is really duplicative on AAA releases while the PS4 has a lot of niche stuff.

Was it? I haven't played CDPR in a long time, but that's not the vibe I got from TW2 Radovid (though he wasn't the unhinged loon of TW3).

Going to start reading the books. Should I start with "Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny" or should I jump in at the first novel "Blood of Elves?"

Start with Last Wish and Sword of Destiny.

They are both important, and they provide a backstory and lead up to Blood of Elves (Ciri's origin is most important) - and they are very good on their own as well (some people claim that short stories are actually better than the novels).

The short stories are very informative and well written, a must read.

Well nothing I'll say won't sound like it comes straight from KoP's blog.

But what I mean really is that he was in the process of the centralization of state.

Pioneering modernisation.

Or at least what he could achieve in his social and economic context.

Restarting this topic with the following conditions:

1) The discussion is about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, not how this compares, favorably or unfavorably, to BioWare products.

2) There will be no call outs to or insults of other companies or fan communities.

3) Everyone play nice.

There is non match between DA:I and TW3.
There's just no comparison, they kicked your asses , hard.

What about a stage in Poland?
