I have been trying to find info (if any is to be had), about when the expansion/DLC's will be set within the story line. More simply put, will they be playable only after one finishes the game, before, or either?

Thanks in advance, to anyone able and willing to share such knowledge.

One will most likely be set during the story (the one expanding on Oxenfurt) and the other will be probably either a prequel (taking place between Witcher 2 and 3) or will be set mid-story as well.

I'm basing this on the fact, that there cannot be post-story content, because of some possible endings.

Of course it's possible we will be able to access it after finishing the game, but timeline wise, I doubt it will happen after the ending because

Thanks for the heads up. :)

I know about the ending you mentioned in the spoiler, I guess what I wondered was:

Wasn't the second one supposed to take place in Toussaint? I am guessing it will probably be a mid-game storyline as well.

But how will they justify that? :P

Why would Geralt suddenly stop looking for Ciri and go to Nilfgaard?

I wonder about that too.

That's why I'm wondering if this is not some kind of an "in between 2 and 3 prequel" to Witcher 3.

If not, I'm really curious about justification.

The Gwent tournament to end all Gwent Tournaments.

"Son," said Yarpen Zigrin, this time very seriously. "Look. There by the counter sits Evangelina Parr. She's, you have to admit, large. Enormous, you could say. However, despite her size, beyond all doubt, she's not a ****** to end all whores."

I'm thinking it might just be framed as Dandelion telling another story about Geralt, presumably taking place sometime in the past, but then having all the same gear wouldn't make much sense.

Well maybe it can make sense in a way that someone reliable states that Ciri has been seen in Touissant, which obviously ends up not being true (or they add a minor involvement for Ciri) and them Geralt gets swept away with whatever takes place there.

And if the player chooses to ignore the DLC, Geralt simply goes "bollocks! Ciri is not there"

I'm confused why you assume the dlc will take place before we find Ciri. That doesn't make any sense. It will be released next year so people will have finished the game. They have to make the new content playable after the ending, as they can't force people to start a new playthrought or use a older save.

It makes most sense if the dlc will unlock after the

Spoiler
At this time there is no urgency, since she is in no danger. We wil probabaly have to follow some clue in Toussaint, which is supposed to help us to defeat the Wild Hunt in the final battle. Considering the post-ending world-state is pre-final battle it would also be playable for people who have finished the game.

A nice side-effect would be that Yen, Triss and Ciri could appear in the dlc. (since they all are in Novigrad/Skellige at this time)

This reads very logically. Similar to ME3 setting up a save at Chronos, for future DLC.

Good points. ;)

You guys, I forgot to post this...  my Roach is not Roach.  After the battle at Kaer Moran I called her in Velen and she was a black horse with a brown maine, not the usual brown horse with the white muzzle.  She has all my stuff, but she is not *my* Roach.  If I go back to Kaer Moran my Roach is still there inside it, but I can't get her out because the gates are down (Geralt can fit through because it's a person sized hole in the gate but not horse and person sized).  I know Geralt doesn't care because he names all of his horses Roach, but I care.  I miss will miss my Roach.  And before you ask, I totally repaired the hole in the side wall before that battle so she is literally stuck in there, where she will eventually meet her demise, and turn into a horse wraith and haunt the place.  RIP Roach.

That moment was just beautiful. I always wondered how people can get so emotionally invested in virtual characters in Bioware or similar games. The Geralt/Ciri relation was the first time the same happened to me. For me personally no romance in any Bioware or CDP game had even closely the same emotional impact like the father/daughter relationship between Geralt and Ciri.
