lmao just 40min of gameplay and jesus can you tell the massive difference in almost everything.
Geralt's stone-faced as hell, and his voice acting is soooo much better in three.

New/lazy voice work confirmed!

"Geralt is supposed to be emotionless, and have zero expressions!"
Well hello TW3!
In all seriousness though, one have to commend the team for how much effort was put into Geralt's facial expressions, especially when you have so many side quests and stuff where he also expresses himself in various ways.

Payed the two first games with English voices first. But after having played all three games with Polish voices I can't even stand the English ones.
^
Haha, you're talking to an anime nut.
I know that feel.
Couldn't watch FMAB subbed if I had to.
But I don't doubt it's good.

Sad Geralt gives me too many emotions to deal with.
Kinda wish they went with something like this fanart tbh.
I like chubby face Geralt :3
The smugness.
Too much.
Pls.
Here's hoping they're saving 1 and 2 for Witcher: The Ciri Years.
Ciri for Iron throne! HBO do it now!
Smug Geralt is best Geralt. ![]()
Looks like Ciri's DLC outfit is based on Zerrikanian design.
My biggest problem with the game is it's back story comes from books I haven't read. End of Witcher 2 is about regaining your memory and going off to find Ven, then out of nowhere your off to find Ciri that comes from the books. But then Witcher had very little to do with Witcher 2 (unless there is another series of books that connect the two).
As to playing the games; The Witcher is a bit harder to play on so many levels. Would need to be remastered with the newer graphics and combat system.
The Witcher 2 is a great game I recommend to any 'fantasy setting' fan. It is worth a couple plays, and can stand up to any game currently out there.
The Witcher 3 (other than the problem noted) Is so far a great game (haven't finished it yet) You can see where they made it more console friendly, but that is not to say they dumbed it down.

I think that was done by design. CDPR had been saying for 2 years to fans of the games "read the books because characters like Yen and Ciri are going to have big roles in the 3rd game." It's one of the reasons I read the books, even the fan translations of the later books.
Though I can see a lot of people who are new fans to the series had no reason to read the books up until now. I think it would have been harder for me to grasp the love affair Geralt has with Yen if I didn't read the books so perhaps the Witcher 3 collectors edition should have come with all the books or something. Or perhaps a larger, more detailed, "The Witcher Universe Compendium" that came with everyones game. At least I think it came with everyone's game, I bought my standard edition through GoG.com so not sure how consoles and steam handled the back story.
I don't think reading the books are necessary.
Loved Yen and Ciri in the game.
Sh*t.
I felt closer to Lambert and Eskel in the fourty minutes I knew them than some freaking BioWare characters that I've known for fourty hours.

Yeah a lot of things in DAI were off like that. Even characters that should care about deaths don't care at all.
Without giving away spoilers, do people think they toned things down for TW3? Is it more of a PG13 rather than an R rated experience? Have they avoided the tough issues?
I'm Level 27, halfway to 28. Clearing things up in Velen/Skellige.

I don't think burning people alive counts for PG13.
Nor what they did to Keira if you let her see Radvoid.
Anyway
TW2
"The Gods! Count Etchevere! Not six month's ago he swore eternal friendship to me."
Line still gets me.

Or what Junior was doing...
Well I do get what Slim is trying to say tho'
They defo dropped the ball with politics for example.
But other than that? Racial issues and all that wash was around the same.
But it never got the same focus since all the attention was given to Geralt.
Which is fine.
But Chewin (IIRC) did mention that at the same time, they should have portrayed the dying world of the Witchers a fair bit better.

There're brutal murders of women, torture, strong verbal aggression, religious fanaticism, cannibalism (not exactly, but that would be a spoiler), implied child-killing, domestic violence, a bit of racism (not so much as in Witcher 1 or 2 though) quite a bit more nudity then in previous entries (not only in cutscenes), homophobia (mainly referenced or in dialogues), misogyny...
I don't think they toned it down.

I don't think they've avoided them, but I also think TW2 was a more mature way of dealing with them. In TW3, while it's certainly better than what Bioware does with these issues (basically nothing or very light stuff) I think it wasn't quite as good as TW2. Mainly because in TW2 you had characters like Roche and Iorveth who added balance to these things. Like Iorveth is basically a terrorist, but he has somewhat noble goals. There's an element of authenticity to him, he's just gone down a regrettable path to achieve them. Roche, is basically his counterpart, he wants to protect innocents from people like Iorveth, and he's gone down a regrettable path to achieve it.
Their noble and ignoble qualities are very tied up in each other basically. Which makes for a more interesting look at them.
Then you have someone like Whoreson, or Menge, who are just straight up dicks, they do bad things that wouldn't be shown in most games (whoreson more so) but that's also basically all there is to their characters. Menge is a religious fanatic, Whorseson is psychopath. They bring nothing else to the table.
I'll go more in depth with a better example here, but it's also going to require spoilers.
^
Yeah, this.
Apart from the Baron and Dijkstra I was pretty disappointed with of Velen/Novigrad. The King of Beggars didn't have enough exposition, but he certainly was interesting. Menge is just your atypical fanatic with a hilarious talent for self-invented conspiracy and Whoreson Junior was just one big ol' whoreson.
House hyped the Crones a lot for me, but I must have done something wrong in the way since they never got attention in my playthrough. I'll remedy that in the future.
Not to mention how boring the Wild Hunt were as antagonists and Aval'ach was a less interesting version of Solas.
But Ciri, Yen and oh god, especially Triss plus a number of Geralt's allies and friends got what they deserved and better. I especially liked Pricilla and found her and Dandelion really frickin' cute.
P.S
Thaler and his c*cksukin' swearing was as always, classy af.
Took me 76 hours to get everything done.
It was so good though.
No words... shoulda... sent a poet...

And I didn't even do everything.
Might have done like 30% of the total side content there was.
Jeez the game is huge.
