How do you see them for 10 minutes?
Especially Ciri?

outside of the main story - yes, they have 2 dialogue options each and thats it, so for people who dont do the main story these characters are completely pointless

If someone purchases this game and actively avoids the main story intending to never do it, they are the ones putting themselves in that position. For the vast majority it isn't pointless.

Whoa, I'm in shock. For people who don't want to turn on their PC/PS4/XBONE, Ciri, Yenna and Triss are invisible at all! What have you done CDPR? Really can't argue with such a logical conclusion.

the main story is made exclusively for people that have read the books, to me its some random woman im supposed to know but have never heard of bringing me to a random emperor who im supposed to know but have never heard of who wants me to find his random daughter that im supposed to know but have never heard of

Like any story in a book, game, movie, television show, or other form of media. Games are no exception just because others preceded them.

they could have added a proper introduction, or at least expanded those 3 paragraph character biographies

They did encourage people to read the books prior to the game's release and I doubt they could have expanded the biographies any more without spoiling the books for potential readers.

Or you could just follow the main quests which are considerably longer than 10 mins with them and know them better?

well im currently at Final Preparations and i still know almost nothing about them, hell the only reason i got this far in the story is because i wanted to unlock Reason of State...

Then I COULD NOT believe you spent less than 10 mins with them.

it was an arbitrary number used to make a point ![]()
i just like games where you can talk to important characters outside of the main story, even if its to discus the weather...
EDIT: you know what would be nice? a halberdier outfit DLC for Dijkstra....

True, but why? I mean i want to read it, but there is time and money reasons that prevents me from doing so. If it was for the original game then i would have understood it, but pushing that agenda before the end of a game trilogy? It is one of the reasons i lost abit of interest in going back and playing the game again, even though i will eventually. With the new Triss content though, it is a no-brainer.

Good to know the number is arbitrary.
anyway, is there a way around the weight limit? i dont want to throw out my sword collection ![]()

Just buy a huge saddle so you can carry more. If that is not good enough, there is probably a mod on Nexus mods.

well i have the +100 weight bag from the DLC, as far as i know thats the biggest one, but when you're carrying around 6 armors and 20 swords its just not enough, i had to get rid of all my crafting components to make space ![]()

All these characters have been mentioned in the previous games.
And there is also this thing called internet. You could have looked up some information if things weren't clear. But considering that you said you only played this game because you were bored and never showed any genuine interest, that probably would have been too much of a bother.

not the point, yes i can use the internet and i did use the internet, my problem here is that CDPR drop you in the world, playing an established character with tons of connections that they tell you nothing about, its the same crap Bioware's been doing since they stopped outsourcing their sequels to Obsidian...

Because that's the way they created the games. The Witcher 1, Geralt as amnesia, so he has to relearn everything, fighting, alchemy, the state of the world and his relationship with others. I think they did this because they were making a game based of obscure books to those who don't live in Poland. Thanks to the amnesia angle the player and Geralt can learn about the world and it's people together, while making since from a narrative point since Geralt is a pre-established character.
In the Witcher 2, Geralt starts to regain some of his memories and we as the player can see specifically which of these memories. He starts to remember Yennefer, Ciri and the Wild Hunt, how he ended up at Kaer Morhen, which kicks off the events of the first game. So as Geralt gradually starts to remember more, the player begins to learn about the world and Geralt's past life.
The Witcher 3 takes place, I think six months after the events of the second game. Geralt has regained all of his memories, he's looking for Yennefer, he's been on the Path for a while now. Since CDPR didn't make games of Geralt's life before the amnesia players have two choices. They can either read the books and learn about Geralt's relationships and more about the world, akin to Geralt regaining all of his memory or they can ignore the books and find information about the characters and the world from just playing the game and reading the glossary.
As with all things in life, you can expect all of your needs to be catered too. If you don't have the time or money to read the books, you won't get the full experience, but you'll still get an extremely enjoyable experience. Also the books and the games aren't going anywhere, they'll always be available and when you have the time to sit down and read through the books and play through the games.

Huh? I am abit confused. I do know the plot of the games and why they used the books more as an inspiration for the last game. It doesn't mean i have to like it though. Thanks for taking the time to push out a long reply, i still don't know why.

I wasn't really talking about the plots, it was more about the people, locations and world state. You learn about these things with Geralt throughout the first two games as he regains his memory. By the time the third game rolls around Geralt has fully recovered his memories, so events and characters that weren't in the first two games will be referenced or shown. The books are the only option for players to go into the game knowing as much as Geralt does.
