Well I was vindicated in terms of everything I said about the downgrade.
Shame that the quality of the game suffered greatly over this idiotic greedy pursuit of multiplatform consoles+PC.
If they would just outsource the bloody console versions to a competent team then everybody wins. With a consistent stream of revenue from GOG I don't know how they can't afford this.

As much I like Iwnski I can't help but feel he and the others in the top managment at CDPR are bumbling idiots who have no clue how to manage the situations they're in, not just because of TW3 but also other issues.

They've almost gone bankrupt twice IIRC, once after TW2, and once during their failed attempt to port TW1 to console.
I can see the latter nearly killing them because of the sunk cost but just what put then in a precarious state after TW2?
They had publishing rights issues for the Xbox port. I believe Atari published the original launch, and didn't want to do a console version, so they went to WB, and Atari sued. I'm not sure if they settled or if they went to court. Atari ended up going Bankrupt not long after though.

That's what happens when you outsource to a terrible French developer.
As for what almost killed them after TW2 came out: The contract they signed with THQ over releasing the 360 version...while Namco Bandai was suing them over over whether or not they should have the right to release the console version...among other things. A lawsuit CDPR lost, was forced to pay penalties and was forced the end their contract with THQ...the penalties from THQ would have killed them but THQ negotiated.
I remember the launch of TW2 with all the performance problems, DRM problems, DAY 1 DLC on DISC ( no really ) and CDPR suing people in Germany that were pirating their games. Now granted they turned around and solved every one of these problems, but the fact they did these things in the first places shows their incompetence...because it hurt them a LOT.

Atari's fall had been a long coming, as for CDPR, they are making solid improvement which is awesome for any RPG fans really.
Sometimes I also can't shake the feeling that CDPR makes a lot of rookie mistakes, like the previous points mentioned and the more recent slip up with announcing their sales and being accused of stock manipulation. That being said I can't feel too upset about the downgrade, it's still the most impressive open world RPG from a technical standpoint and can be incredibly taxing on high-end systems on its maximum settings. I'm not interested in another Crysis in where I'd have to wait another two or even three years to be able to run it as intended.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has better graphics on a technical level. Sure it doesn't have that foliage simulation and it has worse hair, character animations but everything else from a technical level IS superior AND runs better. ( From textures to tessellation on the environment to fire effects to lighting and rain).
From an artistic level Witcher 3 beats the snot out of DA:I, but technical level Frostbite wins and DA:I could have been better on every technical level if they had not made it for last gen consoles since Frostbite DOES support simulation of foliage, day night cycles, animations and hair.
Crysis was a game made in another era. I expected TW3 to be better looking then Crysis 3 at least. I guess we have to wait for Kingdom Come: Deliverance for that.
RED site is down because so many people logged in, lol. People really want this patch. Sadly, not much new stuff is implemented. Has anyone figured out a tweak to enable instant sign casting with hot keys? Easily my biggest beef with the combat.
Patch looks more and more promising by the minute.
CD Project seems to have been very busy despite what some drama queen people have been saying, trying to make conspiracy theories everywhere they look.

I'm not entirely sure, Dragon Age: Inquisition is incredibly pleasing to look at - but at the same time it's also completely static. From a technical standpoint it's far less demanding to achieve these things because lighting can be baked rather than be done dynamically. Sure, the incredible waves from the Storm Coast look a lot better than the pathetic stormy waves in The Witcher 3 but you also can't interact with it, you get teleported back the minute you even touch the water.
Is Kingdom Come also going to be released for consoles btw? If so, I think they might run into the same problem as CDPR did.

You think so?
We have teleporting NPCs to this day and frostbite 3 wins?
I think W3 engine is A LOT more stable. And considering what they did with it, it just shows the potential.
DAI was and still is to some machines a nightmare to run. People were going nuts on the PC Concerns thread because of how bad the game was running. It's a fact they struggled with this engine built for FPS.

Lighting is not dynamic in TW3. Whereas Frostbite does support dynamic lighting and DA uses it.

If they had bothered making the swimming mechanics they could have allowed you swim in water that looks that awesome.
Why? Because Frostbite Engine sure as hell supports it. It IS the Battlefield engine after all and Battlefield has VERY large maps.
We could have potentially had DA:I looking as good as that if they had not bothered with last gen. That lighting, those water effects, that foliage, the destruction, fire etc.

And we don't have that in TW3 along with a lot more pop-in ( not just NPCs but trees, helmets on characters and so on )?

Yes DAI had high systems requirements, guess what Witcher 3 also does that and Witcher 3 runs WORSE then DA:I and also looks worse.
They struggled because the DA team is quite frankly inept on many levels: Just look at DA:O and DA2 on a graphics level. Most of the PC issues concerned the controls of the game not the graphics by the way. On top of that the fact they were making the game on 5 platforms didn't help.

Yet but unlike CDPR they know what they're getting into and are using Cry Engine which is superior to Red Engine.
CDPR's management was quite frankly mad for making a game THAT big with limited console experience, on new consoles and on limited budget. ( Original 15 million $ but doubling to 30 million )
Incidentally the budget of Kingdom Come was originally going to be 5 million dollars along with whatever funding they got from Kickstarter AND whatever they spent up until that point in development.
With 2 million from kickstarter they've got least 7 million but they've probably gotten more from their investor.
I wouldn't get your hopes up for Kingdom Come as that's coming to 'next' gen as well, and next gen so far has been the kiss of death. Damn near every AAA game for next gen has been downgraded at release, or barely looks better than last gen.

Really? DAI is supposed to look better than Witcher 3? I didn't make it past DAI's prologue but hair, animations, weird shiny effect on everything ranging from skin to clothes and armor definitely didn't look good to me at all. DAI's loading times were really long as well. Heck, simply starting the game took weirdly long. Only my Sims game takes longer.
So far I can't recall seeing moments like these in TW3:
With TW3 at most I end up with a screenshot where a character has their eyes closed. Not sure I ever saw DAI characters move their eyes (while they did in DA2, funnily enough).
Anyway, the patch sounds very good, though I've encountered very few issues with TW3. A handful of crashes in the inventory screen, the latest quite a while ago by now. Some hovering corpses/weapons after enemies were killed and Geralt suddenly going into a weird automatic hop where he keeps jumping at random even when I'm not directing him at all were the most notable glitches I've encountered.
Still haven't finished the game, though I think I'm getting closer to finding Ciri. Finally. Just did the hilarious Kaer Morhen sequence ("Lambert, Lambert - what a ******" ) and now need to make friends in Skellige.
Well the fact that you didn't make it past the prologue speaks for itself, deciding how a game looks based on that experience is not a good idea. That shinny effect is only with lower settings.
TW3 does have better hair and animations as well as foliage physics but that's really about it, in every other way DA:I wins.

They do have eye animations.

I've already got the Alpha version of Kingdom Come and it looks great and it runs at 30 FPS on my PC atm when it's really unoptimized.

EA games look better. At least DA:I and Battlefield 4 looked considerably better on PC vs consoles. It's not noticeable on characters and in cinematics all that much but in terrain, shadows, AA etc. it is VERY noticeable.

On max settings I'd say DAI has stronger graphics, but the gap isn't very noticeable and TW3 absolutely has longer load times (but that's because of that stupid unskippable voice over). TW3 has a big advantage in using custom made character models for main story characters and then just recycling NPCs. This is what ME2-3 did for their party members.
