Hmm, where'd my popcorn go...

Well, there's a mod for that.

http://www.nexusmods...itcher3/mods/81

Worthless as it has its own lay out. No excuse for this really. Enough of the designed for game pad ****. I'll figure it out with my programmable keyboard, but their catering to all platforms crap is rather pathetic at this point. The PC version is a port from consoles, plain and simple. They need to quit pretending otherwise.

Eh, I'm not convinced that Inquisition looks better having played both at ultra. Inquisition does run better, but without HairWorks enabled that difference is quite small to me. Foliage density and draw distance are two things that take a large toll on performance, and TW3 exceeds in those aspects. Inquisition also doesn't use full physical based rendering like TW3 does to my knowledge, either that or they messed up the values with how off the reflections look.

Well, I just finished Wither 3, and I quite enjoyed it.  It's improves upon Witcher 2 on almost all counts.

Gwent in particular, gets points for being a mini-game that I didn't hate.

Indeed, TW3 is the obvious winner for me, the character animation, facial expressions, dynamic weather, physic effects, drawing distance ... tW3 is the clear superior RPG in almost all these categories. As for enegine capacity, Frosbite and RED3 are both in house enegine hence only DICE and CDPR could say what is the full capacity for each of engine. As for DAI, I don't think it utilizes the full potential of FB 3 enegine like Battlefield 4 or the coming Star Wars battleground.

I don't get the facial animation bit, honestly. For the few custom faces in TW3 they're passable, and obviously better than the animations that Bioware has been recycling since ME1, but what's so great about them objectively speaking?

BW tends to over emote with their facial animations whereas in TW3 they're more subdued and realistic. I think we all remember this

^I don't see what the problem is? That's damn fine facial animation if you ask me.

Of course they're not on the level of, say, The Last of Us, LA Noire or the like, but as far as these massive RPGs go? They're by far and away the best I've seen.

All the great subtle details, like Ciri sniffling her nose when she was crying, Geralt's little half-smirks before skinning a monster or his many looks of incredible heartbreak without being able to cry...I mean, just look at his reunion with Ciri, that scene was carried by animation alone. It's one of the most impressive parts of the game.

Well, for the most part they're really good, I guess.

Facial animations are quite great in TW3, I'll give them that for handcrafted ones. Also the lip syncing is VERY good. Considerably better then any Bioware game.

They're generic software not mapped onto individual faces. They'll never be good and they'll get progressively worse as the graphical fidelity gets better.

They're just custom animations on custom faces, and not very good ones for what they're going for really. I guess that's why I don't find it impressive. RPGs tend to have garbage animations because they use a generic CC to create faces, and then use generic animations to slap onto the face. Other games (The Last of Us as an example) uses highly customized faces and hand-crafted animations.

TW3 goes the hand-crafted route, but there's nothing impressive about it.

I think you're over-selling some things here, but that moment with Ciri crying was indeed magnificent.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on all of this, then. I was more than impressed with what CDPR managed to do on that front. It felt pretty fluid, got emotion across well, all the while staying fairly subtle.

The point was a fair one, on the large scheme of things it's not that superb but it's still quite good I think.

Certainly beats the snot out of DA:I which was the main point about the facial animations.

I think they did a solid job, but nothing stand-out compared to other games that use the same technology. It's better than other RPGs, but because the approach is different, it's a bit like saying a racecar is faster than a horse.

Playing TW3 on 4k Ultra right now and I have to say it looks better than DAI. If there was a downgrade in graphics, I could only wonder how it would look if it was not. Only just met the Baron, so I don't know how the rest looks.

Also, the visual integrity ( if you could call it that since Eng is not my language) like skin pores, warts, wrinkles and ever single strand of the materials used in their clothing looks very nice as well. What stands out for me was the Bloody Baron's face and facial expression. I want to take a sc but the Print Screen button does not seem to work.

And the peasants and servants are really looking in a sorry state. Like that servant cleaning in the bloody baron's place cleaning the floor face down bum up in dirty clothes and in his small clothes!

The only thing is the water. I don't know about everyone else but they did not get it quite right for me, and left much to be desired.

Edit: and yeah, how do you make money in this game? Everytime I manage to make 800crowns I seem to be needing repair and almost all of that goes pooff!

The water effect and especially under water session of TW3 is OK, especially compared another open world masterpiece (GTA 5). But given the budget and scale difference between Rock star and CDPR, I'm sitll quite impressed with TW3.

CDPR's review of their TW series. Their have learned hard lessons of signing distribution contracts with publishers and the importantce for keeping the integrity/independence of the company (stats around 23:34).

Just started the quest to find Dandelion and met Dijkstra. I now have three quest to accomplish, one given by Djikstra to find his lost treasure, another that gives me three locations where Junior might be and finally one given by Cleaver who plans on attacking Junior. Since it seems all three are somehow entangled with one another, I wanted to know if there was a more optimal order to accomplish these quests ?

I have noticed the facial animations repeating themselves, not quite each one being unique, but otherwise it's top notch stuff.

I'd advise doing "Count Reuven's Treasure" first to get it out of the way. After that, you have "Get Junior" and "The Gangs of Novigrad." I failed the latter because I preferred a less violent approach and so explored all three locations. In order to get the dwarves to help you you can't have explored both the arena and the casino (on your own, that is). Remember that when you call upon the dwarves to help you you'll simply storm the place instead of using your detective skills. One last tidbit from the guide: "Should Main Quest: A Favor for Radovid commence, and you failed to speak to Cleaver for a final time (or at all), this quest fails once you emerge from the Oxenfurt chess club."

Hope it helps. ;)

All this arguing about technical stuff and i'm just sitting here waiting for CDP to fix the real stuff like Eredin, Avalac'h white washing, White Frost retcon,  Ciri's retcon in her powers and the bulk of act 3.

Well, I wouldn't know, I still have to repel the Wild Hunt invaders at Kaer Morhen. :D
