God, the open world looks lifeless and combat looks just like Witcher 2. Hopefully it's not as easy or spammy as Witcher 2. Hopefully the world is populated well and has enough things to do.

Have you seen any other gameplay footages because TW3 world is anything but lifeless. Combat spammy? Yeah crank the difficulty slightly higher than easy and let's see how much will spamming help you.

Cannot say myself, but as an outside observer this does not seem to be the case. I read far more complaints of TW2 combat and gameplay, but much better reviews on story.

Well TW1 has worse gameplay but it fits better for a mouse and keyboard style game. I guess since the first game is less popular, you'll hear less complains.

The Witcher 2's gameplay isn't really good either but it fits well with a controller.

why do people say this? No, I don't play video games on easy. I play on normal, I only play on hard if there is enough incentive.

Difficulty for me is chosen on what it actually does for the game. I play DA games on Nightmare, except for DA2 which was left on hard due to random immunities granted to foes. Took me some practice to get there now, but now it works for me.

Skyrim is left on Adept, as higher choices only nerfs the DB and buffs opponents; use mods to increase the challenges. Much the same for XCOM; use the Long war mod to increase the challenge, and play on Normal settings.

Nothing to prove to anyone but myself in a solo game.

I've only played games on hard whenever I have extra time and i've basically completed everything. I dislike having to unlock multiple difficulty levels, like Mass effect 1 with hardest then insanity. That's just stupid.

I play skyrim on Adept but move it up to expert or master once I reached a very high level, but I switch back since it plays the same.

Unless the difficulty changes game play as a whole, I don't increase past normal.

Anyone know if you will be able to pick up this game and play it without having played 1 and 2? If you're going to say, "How dare you! Go and play the first two now!", please don't. I'm only mildly interested in the third game as it is but I felt the same about ME3 before I played it and then went back to do the whole trilogy. I don't think I could have slogged my way though ME1 in late 2013 without knowing how great it all would become. Now ME1 is only a minor chore (combat wise).

Also, how much choice do you have over Geralt's personality? He already exists outside the game. I probably have misconceptions about him but I'd like to be proven wrong.

Devs put a lot of effort into making the game as welcoming to newcomers as possible (allegedly). For the better or worse. But to get familiar with the characters and the plot, reading the books would be more helpful since this game kinda continues the story of the original saga. The politicking which constitutes the main plot of W2 seems to be merely a background for a more personal protagonist's story in W3.

You can't really influence his 'personality' since the choices offered align with the character Sapkowski created. You can kill mercilessly or spare, help a person in need kindheartedly or be a greedy bastard and demand payment. In reality Geralt as a predefined personality could pick either depending on his mood, past experience with such individuals, his current situation, etc. No diplomatic/sarcastic/aggressive response choice, Geralt always responds in his style, only the actual content matters.

The story of TW3 is self-containend. It's certainly possible (but not recommended) to enjoy this game on it's own without any knowledge about the previous games or the witcher-verse in general.

I wonder why every dwarf in Vergen is so hostile to Iorveth.
Many dwarves have joined the Scoia'tael and since Vergen hasn't abandoned its culture, it is unlikely Iorveth would have given them any grief.

Well lore wise the elves were shitheels before humans came around and were well on their way toward perpetrating their own genocide of the dwarves. I'm sure that doesn't engender good relationships.

Before the patches spamming Quen was a bit of a game breaker.

Xbox One footage, but still looks amazing to me. They've changed the inventory screen and for the better in my opinion. The animations look improved too - especially the combat dodges.

Can't wait.

So is this PC with Xbox one controller or Xbox one footage? Still looks good but not as good as previous videos. Lip Sync looks off. Is that new sign an evolution of Yrden?

It's a good thing that they finally added sprinting and jumping.
UI looks good for console and PC, unlike Witcher 2.

Boss Battles are still like Witcher 2 in which you spam hits.

Well, you can't spam too many hits because you see them always dodging and using signs. The enemy AI is clearly improved. Signs looks so much more functional than TW2. Having Yrden be AOE slow down effect is a great tactical addition.

I like what they did with Yrden too! I wasn't too keen on it at first, but seeing it in action in today's footage won me over. Them slow-mo wolfs. I see many ways of using that sign in combat now - I wonder whether the projectiles, like arrows slow down if they pass through the AOE :P

Would be cool as hell.

They only problem I have after watching the uncompressed footage (and it's nitpicking really) is the grass. Looks a little to flat for me - would have liked to see something like the grass in DA:I Hinterlands. Otherwise I'm oiled and ready to go. Take me on an adventure Master Gervant!

It's not. Or at least I don't think it is. Uncompressed footage is too detailed, clearly has some MSAA going on there and runs at 1080p. I thought that it had to be Xbone since they showed it at their Microsoft panel, but... well, after watching it on something better than YouTube.

I guess we have to wait for Marcin to confirm it on the Witcher forums. Which I don't think he will do :P

So, the latest footage has spawned a new discussion topic: the Grass quality.

Not sure what to say. I'd take fisstech over it any day.

Loved the details of his armor and how they moved naturally in the wind. Grass textures remind me of Skyrim, but oh well. Game looks great to me. With every glimpse of footage my hype peaks again.

I have one more complaint actually. And it's a major one. I have no idea how CDPR didn't see that.

I dont know Luxorek. A longsword is often suprisingly clumsy at cutting away meat parts. You dont often for example see meat vendors wielding that long instruments at their trade do you? Makes sense to me for Geralt to have very sharp knife specifically for "quality cutting" so to speak.
