I dont know Luxorek. A longsword is often suprisingly clumsy at cutting away meat parts. You dont often for example see meat vendors wielding that long instruments at their trade do you? Makes sense to me for Geralt to have very sharp knife specifically for "quality cutting" so to speak.
I was being only half-serious 
A small knife like that makes sense for skinning or precision cutting - less so when you need to cut off an entire head of a giant monster. One good swing with that steel sword and there goes the head.
But that's just joking on my part.
