That's true. There is a very similar scene in the books but with Triss instead of Yennefer. So I'm happy they didn't violate the lore and made it a dream instead of a flashback.

It's not really just for new players as much as it is non book fans. I mean while in theory I know about their relationship seeing it I think is necessary to make the game work.

You are right.With "new players" I meant people who didn't read the books, which is stupid ofc:) While Ciri is mentioned a few times in the previous games it's not really explained who she is. Yennefer was introduced in Witcher 2 so Witcher 2 players should have more knowledge about her. So yeah, they have to introduce them properly to make the player care for them and the story work.

Actually the game starts with Geralt and Yennefer in Kaer Morhen.(tutorial) Geralt lying in a bathtub and Yennefer sitting naked on a chair next to him. Then Geralt has to find little Ciri. Then something happens. The dream ends, Geralt wakes up  next to Vesimir in the present nearby the battlefield from the CGI trailer and they continue to track Yennefer (prologue)  

My bad. Cba reading through all those previews so I'll believe you, I posted what I remember.

 

Oh, and the Wild Hunt appears at the end of the tutorial so it cannot be a true flashback. Riiiiiight.

Actually the dream is a true flashback and neither Yen nor Triss are there IIRC. When the tutorial (flashback dream) ends Geralt wakes up with Yen in Kaer Morhen in the present and the prologue follows.
