I agree with them on the question that she has more importance than Geralt, so I prefer the short stories. It made me turn up my noses when I saw that her would be playable in the third game, but the CD gave assurance that the game was about Geralt, we'll see if they're right.

My only problem with the Ciri sequences in Witcher 3 is, that according to the gamestar journalist who played the game for 12 hours, the game while playing her is more like an action-adventure than a rpg. She has absolutely no customization or progression, which confirms the developers statement that she is indeed only used as a narrative tool and not for gameplay. I obviously haven't played the game, but I think 5-10 hours of this could be a bit too much. Especially after the first playthrough. But I'll wait and see if it was a smart choice to make her playable.

Yeah. I can't really think of anyone else that could fill the protagonist spot better than her, frankly. Unless CDPR was to create their own original character for the universe, I guess, or make a player-created one - but I do kind of agree with the sentiment above that I'd rather have someone more fleshed out. Ciri is my top pick if we need a Geralt replacement after this.

Though, with her being so tied up to the main plot and the dozens of different endings they've promised, I imagine there will be a lot of fates for Ciri that might complicate such things.

Agreed. Either Ciri or a customizable character.... I wish (if they continue the witcher series that is) that if Ciri is outta question, then the latter will happen and not go with the typical male protagonist route again.

Not having customization or progression doesn't mean boring gameplay.

Remember that she has different abilities in each section.

I didn't really expect much customization/progression in the Ciri segments. They pretty much said they were entirely plot-focused from the get-go.

I do wonder if she'll have dialogue options and such though. The little snippets where you played as people like Henselt/Stennis/Triss/etc. in TW2 did, so I imagine Ciri's will.

Dunno, for me progression is a very important aspect of a rpg. Not getting experience, not being able to improve my gear or skills. Don't even having a inventory could be problematic imo. Especially if the sequences are really up to 10 hours long like the gamestar journalist wrote.

I would sort of enjoy a player created character to play in the Witcher universe.

Ciri seems the best possibility if its an established one, but there's a significant gameplay hurdle: she's not a Witcher and non-Witchers are killed by their potions.  Bye-bye alchemy mechanic.

I'm sure they could replace it with something equally interesting.

I mean, the girl's got inter-dimensional/teleportation/so on powers. Come on now. :S

What do you consider so off-putting about her?

I read the book a while back when it was ready the Russian translation, I think, if I remember right I had not played the first game yet, I do not remember. So even in the book I thought she stole a lot of attention and when I played the game I thought it had rescued the spirit of the series, the game had a great plot ! was not a short adventure and Geralt was the center! OH! AMAZING! it was nothing about Ciri and her... whatever power. The world is too empty, almost have no information about Nilfgaard or Povis. The great '' evil '' in the book is the great '' evil '' in the game, so when it is completed, will be left what? I have no problem with adapting, CD respect the mythology of the series, a new game with Ciri and with another problem out of this idea, for me, will be very stressed and will eat up the idea.

This would be a problem, as would be implementing this interpretation? As would be the Ciri?

Yeah...  It just seems kinda awkward with a series entitled "The Witcher"

Well, she's still Witcher trained. And given the hair, most people would probably would think she's a Witcher herself at a glance just looking at the box. As I said before, the title would be a loose fit, but it could still fit. :S

She does not seem very interested in hunting monsters. If at the least Triss help Vesemir create other witchers, I would accept that possible sequence. I don't know.

I don't think they should try to force more mileage out of the franchise without Geralt there.

Then a game with different title and with Ciri would be a better way? As i've said, it doesn't have to have the same title.

Accurate, because probably will not have something to tell, they will force a new storyline? I don't think so.

If they did a new franchise without Geralt it'd have to be something new. I don't see why they would though. I'd like to see them move onto something else, create their own universe. Maybe do something like Mass Effect. I'd like to see CDPR's take on outer space.

I'm sure there could be a workaround that replaces alchemy with something else. But more importantly, I would prefer to see a player-created character.

I'm not sure I understand what this means graphically. Do they mean you'll look sick?

It harkens back to the Witcher one intro CGI, where Geralt's face gets freaky after he downs a potion. People had been requesting this in the game ever since. The only question is, how long the visual effect will last and if it carries over to the cutscenes...which could make for some entertaining screen caps at the local brothel.

And those wanting Ciri to continue the franchise, I don't agree. Even the lead writer admitted she was 'kind of' a mary sue. Just create a new blank slate Witcher and let it be male or female. Ciri has very specific powers, she's not a mutant so no alchemy. In theory she definitely could not endure the trials of monster hunting.

Oh, I see what you (and others) mean. My recollection of the TW1 CG1 intro was that the changes were somewhat less ME2 renegade (which is what someone people here described it as, and what the increasingly visible scars look like they're portraying) and more like just acquiring some interesting characteristics (e.g. cat-like eyes).

I mean, Geralt was never supposed to be exactly comely so it's not that off-base if he uglies up with alchemy.
