We've seen a little bit of this in DAO with Avernus and his Grey Warden experiments and I'm pretty sure that Darkspawn mages (emmisaries) draw their power from the taint instead of the fade. I also vaguely remember a thread a few years ago that discussed the blight as a source of magical power that was even more potent than blood or lyrium. Do you think we'll see more of this in DAI?
The taint of Darkspawn as a source of power.

It was in the Calling as well, mages can tap into darkspawn magic without being a Warden. I believe the blight to act as a kind of anti-Fade as it can house the souls of the old gods and ancient magisters.
Edit: I think his name was First Enchanter Remille of the Fereldan Circle, he was First Enchanter before Irving. The way it was described was pretty neat. Cold, dark, and very powerful magic. He was also able to enchant a dagger to resist the taint and darkspawn magic, so it seems the darkspawn magic is connected to the taint/blight. I would really like to see some rogue mages get their hands on some journal of Remille's and have a good dlc adventure with Grey Wardens and questions about what is the nature of the blight/taint.

DG confirmed that Darkspawn cast from the taint, not using a connection to the Fade.

The Taint is a very potent power source, and just imagine if we could get some Darkspawn magic to combat the Fade fueled demons.

What is the Taint limit? Fade limit is - mana, blood, lyrium.

Probably life. The taint seems to be a kind of anti-life, and if you are not of the blight (darkspawn), I'd guess you'll die of overuse or become corrupted in some way. There has only been one non-warden who used it for a short time and then killed.

Darkspawn also gain sustenance from the taint. If I had to guess where the taint gets its power from, I would say the Black City. It would be nice to get some new answers about the taint, so I hope it features at some point.
In fact, the darkspawn are immortal as a result (in the ageless sense; like the elves said that they were, i.e., they can;'t die of old age but can be killed).

Maybe the Taint is the Elves' former immortality, magically torn from them and locked in the Golden City where it rotted and festered, turning the place black. Then when the City was breached, it washed over the Magisters with its tainted energies, creating the ageless Darkspawn. In fact, the darkspawn are immortal as a result (in the ageless sense; like the elves said that they were, i.e., they can;'t die of old age but can be killed).
It isn't but it sounds neat.

I don't think you'll find much power in anythings' taint.

considering that in order to use the traits from avernus's research, it required the blood to be used... i would imagine its a form of blood magic

In the comic "Dragon age:Until we sleep" the tevintor cult was using darkspawn blood to fuel the blood magic spell they were using on Maric.

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of using dark power to further my ends. I'd rather just hit things until they fall down and their EXP falls out.

I damn well hope so. I hope they touch on Avernus experiments and your decisions in the Warden's Keep DLC. I also wanted to see more powerful Grey Wardens.

It's just in the world's best interest to remove the blight.
However, I really, really hope we learn more of the blight. I believe that the Architect didn't have any memories of being a magister because he was killed at some point, and his soul is "damned" to the blight, so he/it "reincarnated" and that is why he/it is so special like Corypheus who didn't die before and so had some memories of being a magister.
I tend to kill the Architect but would love to see him return if this theory is true, with Corypheus trying to gather the ancient magisters or whatever.

Because dark spawn lore is interesting and we don't know that much about it .

Considering that it seems that you invade a Warden fortress at some point in the game, I'd assume there is some kind of shenanigans going on there which might involve the taint.
As to the limit of the power of magic using the taint I'd imagine it'd be similar to how the joining works where it depends on the corruption in the blood you're using (or in the event of emissaries, within themselves). A grunt doesn't have as much corruption within him and thus he is less powerful as they're fueled by the taint.

Actually no, the Taint is in the blood, but it doesn't require blood to be used like how blood magic does.
Blood Magic requires the blood, or life-force of a subject to be used as a means of bolstering or; in the case of using sacrifice and suffering a la Old Tevinter; supercharging various Fade powered spells. The power to control people via their blood is also present in the Blood Magic school, but it still requires the use of the Fade to be wielded.
The Taint is it's own source of power, completely separate from the Fade, and self contained; though it is incredibly dangerous and has a corrupting influence; much like radioactive materials. This explains why Genlocks; who are corrupted dwarves, with no connection to the Fade; are able to be emissaries.
I always took Averneus' research as a brute force approach to unlocking the Taint's potential, he discovered some new abilities using the blood of Grey Wardens, but unlocking said abilities wasn't dependent on the blood. Look at the Architect, or Corypheus, they had many Taint borne abilities that they could use that didn't require the spilling of blood.

Except every ability the warden uses for power of blood is powered by using the wardens life force and blood. The Architect, or Corypheus may not have to do that because they are far more corrupted then the warden.
But I'm not say the taint is not a separate thing from blood.
