Dear devs / designers!

Just watched the new gameplay video and the first thing i noticed is how terrible the camera placement in exploration and combat is. It needs to be either fully adjustable in height and angle (and make camera auto follow optional) or it needs to be higher and slightly further back.

There is nothing more annoying in a 3rd person game, than the player not being able to see whats directly in front of the avatar and where exactly he is at. This might be a nice angle for a cinematic view but if you play for a few hours it gets extremely annoying.

Default camera height must be above the character´s head, slightly tilted down (15-30°) and zoomed out far enough for the feet to show well inside the frame.

Exploring without seeing where you are going is terrible in this way. Take a look at the Dark Souls series, Assassins Creed freerun mode for great camera placement. You don´t even need to shift the camera right and left in respect to the avatar if you place it right.

As beautiful as the sky and the trees are, when you are exploring you want to see whats under your feet and where they are going before admiring the view.

Please change it or include options to place the camera, maybe a few sliders to change the values and the quality-of-life gain would be tremendous.

Thank you!

I'm sure camera adjustment will be the same as with the 2 previous games meaning you can control the angle simply with your mouse and scroll wheel for zoom level.

I find it quite amusing that people really think the camera angle will be fixed?

Height is usually fixed and the angle I am talking about is the default, and that is fixed. Sadly in a lot of games the default/auto follow camera's angle is way too low. An option to change it or disable the follow camera altogether would be good. The camera and its positioning/angle is extremely important in any 3D game since that is the way you explore the world, wrestling the control of that camera from the player as soon as he takes 2 steps forward is one of the greatest annoyances in 3rd person games.

Angle is often fixed with a chase cam, but distance is usually easily adjusted.

I hope to be able to click to move, rather than using WASD driving controls, so I'd definitely want a different camera position.

Have you played any DA games before?

Because in the previous two games, neither height nor angle was fixed (outside of the limits, you couldn't go "tactical" in DA ][).

IIRC, there will be a Skyrim-esque over-the-shoulder view.

I think they said int he latest game informer post how the camera isn't fixed in regular mode and you can adjust the height whether it's over the shoulder or over your character's head. Not sure though @_@

All I can say is that I know exactly what your talking about Broo70, and I can not even begin to agree more. The camera position/angle in the E3 demo video is simply horrible. It is something that will be a deal breaker for me. The camera is how we see the world and if it is placed looking at the ass of our characters, and up into the sky I won't be able to play it comfortably. The video started to give me a headache and I had to stop watching.

I have been looking forward to this game, and really liked the others in the series. Would be a shame if they put all this time and work on the game just to foul up the camera.

Camera angle causing ailments such as headaches and such? (LOL). Sounds a bit like being allergic to vegetables.

Dubya75 are you unaware that some people do have vegetable allergies? Some common are from celery, peppers, and parsley to name a few.

There are many activities and substances that are known to trigger headaches, and playing video games can cause tension headaches. Wich is a sensation of tightness that completely encircles the head. I my self have only had this problem after playing a game for several hours.

But I am sure a medical lesson on headaches and the various things that cause them isn't needed on this topic, or these forums in general. Neither was your off topic irrelevant comment.  If you, Dubya75, need to know more perhaps attending some school classes would be benificial. If on the other hand you are simply trying to troll then the internet is full of such people, and you are only one of many.

Regardless the camera angle is to far on the ground and should not be looking up at our characters. It should be up and at a downward angle as the default position.

I was trying to make a point - I failed, apparently.

How can the angle of a camera in a video game cause tension and headaches? You mention looking up at your character? But this is inaccurate because it all depends on your monitor's positioning.

Now don't get me wrong, I have no gripe with people voicing their displeasure with the angle of the camera, but to claim that it inflicts some sort of bodily discomfort is simply unbelievable to me. Makes no sense whatsoever.

For this reason I compared it to claiming to be allergic to vegetables when you simply don't like it.

Don't take me so literally, please. And please try to relax and take regular breaks when gaming. It will reduce the tension and the headaches.

The camera angle in DAI seems very similar to how it was in previous games.

Perhapps we should just actually keep the discussion on topic, Dubya75. Instead of trying to critique others posts. Reguardless if you feel that what I said about headaches is "unbelievable" and "Makes no sence whatsoever".

Some people try to find something to disagree with.

Camera angle or camera movement is often blamed for motion sickness. Headaches seem perfectly reasonable.
