Okay, so it seems like as you kill the demons around the fade rift, the rift becomes weaker, and then you can finally close it. Also, it seems like there are several small rifts that you may have to close in order to close a much larger rift.

 

Now that I can hear Dorian's voice, he sounds amazing. So does Sera, and Iron Bull, and even Leliana. Even Alix's voice seemed fitting for the Female Qunari.

 

It seems like Dorian is a healing type of mage? I thought I saw him healing other party members.

That's not how I would describe what they've shown.  Like I said, they've made a point to emphasize the tactical controls and the ways you can use your abilities to shape the battlefield in your favor.

 

The "hardcore" ( ) RPG fans are far fewer in number and they're the ones most likely to be paying attention to all the talk of tactical options and hear the devs when they note that the combat on display is on a lower difficulty setting.  The more casual crowd composes the bulk of the audience.

 

I have to agree with you. Now that they've shown this video, I could see a lot more details in regards to how the combat works. I like how Mike showed the chokepoint where he would Iron Bull because the rest of your party had cut off other escape routes. I wouldn't have thought to have done that before, but now that I see that it's possible, I'm going to be thinking about how I do tactical fights a bit better. And I'll definitely be utilizing the tactical view camera.

Anyone else think that Alexius's son looks kind of like he has the darkspawn taint in him or is that just me?

Also not sure why, but whenever I hear people in the demo talk about the "Elder One", the first thought that crosses my mind is that it's.... the Maker.

Its really annoying when bosses in games repeat the same few lines throughout a fight,Alexius did this several times, hope they change this so that he (and other enemies) don't do that in the final game.

 

Besides that I quite liked what they showed.

If they really want to highlight the dynamic nature of the combat system and how it allows you to do both pause and play and full realtime action they should make videos that do just that. You take one encounter go into and show how you can handle it without every pausing or controlling party members, then go through it all again pausing and issuing tactics the entire time to show that you can do it that way if you want. And if they're really feeling special they could do the fight again a third time with a mix of real time combat with then pausing to issue orders when necessary or when a particularly good cross class combo or situation shows up.

They could kill two birds with one stone by doing it with the PC interface, as well.

I understand these E3 demo are supposed to a catch all sort of presentation, so while I still think they could have done the combat a bit better, I understand it's not the perfect occasion to do a serious combat breakdown, but it is something that they need to have on schedule and soon. Yes, many people are not hardcore fans who are going to pause and play after every ability use, but a lot more people are more than happy to pause once in a while during combat if only to choose an ability or to fully survey the field. Plus it's important to actually show what combat feels like and not fights one easy with godmode enabled because it's noticeable and doesn't look as good as it could.

That demo was utterly fantastic. From looking beautiful, to tugging at my heartstrings, to women kicking ass, to intense music and atmosphere, to the sheer urgency of things... Utterly brilliant.

I loved loved loved the music and the creepy atmosphere. I am digging the dark direction they're taking and I'm hoping it gets even bleaker the more intense the game gets. The magical spells looked badass, I can't wait to play as a mage. Leliana is a BAMF.

As others have said, I think the events they showed in this part of the demo seemed to be the worst possible outcome. I wonder if they'll do a similar quest like in Mass Effect 2 that if you choose the wrong kinds of companions to bring along they'll die.

Seeing combat, hearing the characters and seeing how convos work. All just great, hopefully we get to see how crafting and base building fuction along with Skyhold itself

In Origins she states that, as a bard, she made a point to avoid violence as she preferred more subtle means of getting things done. Also, she becomes friends with Wynn and Morrigan and can become a Mage-Warden's lover, so it makes no sense.

 

EDIT: Also, is it me or did we just get a major spoiler regarding the fade tear and who made it? Cos it sure seemed that way to me.

I imagine the worry is that, should they show off the game at high difficulties, they might drive away the more (numerous) casual RPG fans.

And how many "casual" RPG fans is Bioware driving away with the intricate story and writing? Casual gamers don't need a good story or writing, otherwise Skyrim wouldn't have sold so well. Bioware might as well remove that then too. 

 

Anyway, i'm not saying that DA:I doesn't have deep tactical combat, they just haven't shown any of it yet, if it does exist. FYI, just mentioning that there is a tactical view and showing it for 20 seconds is not enough.

I don't think she was that anti-mage, and she suffered torture until the very moment you saved her. I can understand why she wasn't in a good state of mind.

I'm thinking she changed when the chantry leadership was decimated, and not forgetting the disappearance of her warden lover.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right, I think it mostly bugged me cos I'm playing through Origins again 9first time playing it on PC) and I'm playing a mage who is in a relationship with Leliana.
