I completely disagree. I used to love turn-based combat, but now I find it to be too slow and boring, and I just don't enjoy it the way I used to.

Agreed. Let people like what they like but i think some are living in the past or are very narrow minded. I for one enjoy a variety of playstyles. While i just agreed on turn based combat not being my favorite i would still have accepted it in DA:I and not made a big fuss about it. Maybe because combat is not one of my priorities in a Bioware game...

The fact that Leliana (any character really) did something that seems to come from within her and not just what you told her to do might be the best thing shown from this game so far.

I ran out of likes, but I heartily agree.

Excellent work, BioWare. I cannot wait until October.  B)

Great demo. A few things I thought of while watching it.

- "No one should have this power." Really? What about your mage friends Wynne, the Warden and (I presume) Vivienne? Also that one from her DA:O DLC, can't remember his name.

- Dorian reacts to the group picking up red lyrium. I wonder what Varric says if you have him with you?

- Alexius sounds great, I hope there's a way to recruit him to our side.

I was talking about her physical appearence, but that would also be nice.

EDIT: She has a round face in the first two games, and now she has an oval face, it's just very weird to look at considering how different her face is now..

It's been stated multiple times that they couldn't directly import faces from Eclipse to Frostbite.

It's likely that her face was "ovaled" out because humans in general have oval shaped faces. Although I suppose you're really talking about cheekbone width rather than an actual round face. than round faces

Truly turned based, sure they've never done it. Technically turned based? They've done it. Unless I'm mistaken, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (the old ones, not the MMO) was turned based. You couldn't see it because it well hidden and covered up by constant combat animations to make an illusion of real time combat, but behind the scenes every battle in that game was turn based game with you and the enemy automatically going to the next turn in the queue. Remember that you decided several turns in a row in that game, up to 3 future moves could be decided, and your character would cycle through them in turn order.

In case you want reminded, this was turn based. Pretty well hidden though.

Combat was a form of the d20 system in KOTOR. While I don't mind it, it does get tedious after awhile. Origins also seemed to have a variation on the d20 system, but it wasn't as apparent.

While I do enjoy combat in Original Sin it can get a bit annoying at times.

Now that I've had a chance to watch this a couple of times, I noticed this strange item on a table Dorian walks past in the beginning of the video...

2014_07_11_16_50_37.jpg

Any ideas what it could be...?

Its looks to me that if you do not have a rouge then perhaps its possible to find the keys to unlock certain doors.

Well.... that was pretty much AWESOME!

The thing that really kept catching my attention was... "oh my, she's so TALL"  The qunari Inquisitrix is huge!

Wicked.

So much of what we see is out of context, though, so it's hard to judge the story and character elements properly.  Best not to, really.  But...

Sera... I think if they'd chosen to send her out there that would open the possibility of her dying, but since she and Bull apparently go of their own accord she'll be fine.

Leilana... has clearly been through some nasty happenings, there and previously. Cut the girl some slack.  Plus, I think before the Inquisitrix arrived Leilana thought she was dead - which would certainly explain why she hadn't tried escaping before.

Great demo. A few things I thought of while watching it.

-Since we don't know exactly what "power" Leilana means she could be entirely correct. She might not mean magic as a whole, she could mean power over the Fade or demons or some such.

-Hmmm...

-I suspect things will turn out bad for Alexius one way or another.  It would seem he is on The Other Side and we won't be able to make friends with him.

It must of been a nightmare to animate her love scenes as well as any other scene with physical contact. Camera position would have to be even more carefully managed also.

I believe she meant the abilities to warp reality through the fade rifts not magic itself. She was in fact a supporter of the mage rebellion at the White Spire and does sincerely care about the plight of mages and elves since the event of Origins open her eyes to alot

Hell she responsible for saving Redcliffe before from magic, imagine how Alistair would feel if he came back and saw that....those pikes the palace in Denerim would definitely be occupied again

To me the face looks quite similar. her face seems to have been slightly elongated but not by any drastic margin (chin seems to be slightly longer, with slight gauntness at the cheeks). It slightly makes the face seem more "real" (may be subjective).

Either way, I wonder if your perception of it is caused more by her having a hood than any actual difference.

I was thinking after I posted that it might just be the hood that's just not doing it for me, I guess I'll have to wait and see when she has no hood.

She looks way better in Origins, not that I'm surprised, Bioware seem to lack the ability to make decent looking characters these days, especially when it comes to female characters.

Ugly characters aside, the more I see the more I dislike, the combat is one big horrible mess of garish, over the top, flashing neon cheesyness, the UI is beyond hideious and for all the talk of showing off tactical combat, we're still yet to see any actual real time combat taking place in tactical camera view.

Personally I find it to be a bit of a waste from their side if they add a tactical camera view only to make it so that people have to use the more action heavy view anyway. It's starting to feel a bit like the RPG/Action and Story mode for Mass effect 3. Why bother to include these things if the game will be mostly the same no matter what?

At any rate Bioware seems pretty set on their path. They make action RPGs these days and I doubt that's ever going to change. I almost find these half attempts they do at pretending the games are not full action games more sad than if they had just removed the tactical combat entirely.

Agreed. I'm not sure why some Bioware fans are so agressive when people dare say anything slightly critical, it's slightly odd coming from a fanbase who seems to pride itself on being inclusive of all comers.

Because tactical view can be useful to assess the situation and make some tactical decisions. I expect it to be pretty critical in higher difficulty levels.

Be that as it may, no need to rise to the bait. Getting the thread locked due to shitty little flamewars is not helpful to anybody. Besides, I get angry at things when they turn out to be utterly crap *coughsmallvillecough*

Well, that doesn't take much. When Leliana sings after the Elven quest it looks like her face is about to open up (her eyebrows are what really does it) and reveal a giant demon mouth akin to the first boss in Silent Hill. It's both horrible and hilarious.

I know her late game appearances in DA2 contradict this, but I think it's age. Leliana is probably at or near 40 by now, and her attractive young looks are likely starting to fade. I could easily believe her DAI face is the face of Leliana with 10 years of aging added. Frankly everyone looked too young in DA2's final fact when they start making cameos (Zevran and Alistair and Leliana), they looked pretty much like they did in DAO, odd new artstyle aside. I'm glad to see returning characters actually look a decade older now like they should.
